i am from miami and la carreta has always held a special place in my heart. my father worked in that building from 1959 till 1975 when it was the trio diner then a legendary place in miami ,and every time i go back 2 miami it is the first place i visit. the food is always special and i have never had bad service (mind u nothing special either) but it has always been consistant and it always tells me i'm home more

The food was a total disappointment, not only was the food old, re-heated, it is far from being Cuban food. : ( more

We'd always gone to Versailles when visiting Miami, but this time decided to check ouf La Carreta. I am so glad we did. They were patient with my attempts to order in Spanish, and friendly--which I can't say about Versailles. The food was great, though, and cheaper than I expected. Really delicious ropa vieja. We'll go again next time we're in town. more

I'm Cuban and I know how Cuban food should taste. This was nowhere near. I ordered shrimp and chicken on some sauce with yellow rice and salad. The salad was of the worse quality: tasteless and in big chunks. Next was the shrimp &chicken which were on such an acidic sauce that everything else tasted like it. The same thing happened to my mother who ordered fish with shrimp. I've been there before but I've never left so dissapointed. Waitress were nice and concerned but food was definitively a let down for their fame. I don't plan on going back there if I can avoid it. more

Although I am not the biggest fan of Cuban food, I make an excepton for the fare at la Carreta.\r The palomilla is always fresh and cooked to my liking (which is medium rare). I order it with cooked onions, rice and black beans. The rice is perfectly seasoned as are the black beans. Freshness permeates throughout. The tostones are also excellent -not greasy and very fresh. To finish off the meal, I order the cream cheese flan ("Flan de Queso) -handsdown the BEST flan ever! Don't forget to end the meal with a cuban coffee. Truly a satisying dining experience. more

What not to love about a cuban restaurant that stays open 24 hours. La Carreta has become a favorite of mine when its afterhours and all I want is picadillo and black beans. more

Nothing Great 3/27/2008

I've been to La Carreta since I was a kid with my parents and I loved it. Now as an adult with my own family, I really don't recommend it as a 5-star restaurant but as maybe a luncheon type of place. Even then, there are better places. The parking lot is a mission to get into. The place is always crowded and the hosts and waitress are not all that friendly and accommodating to its clients. One day, I found a long hair in my beans, and since then have not dined there again. I was so digusted by the place, and its ""lack of"" cleaniness my family and I will never go back there. Pros: The garlic bread starter Cons: ambiance, service, cleaniness more

Worst Service Ever 4/5/2007

I went for dinner there last night and let me just say that the service in this restaurant is terrible. I handed my waitress a hundred dollar bill in order to pay my check. She ended up either stealing the money herself or losing it somewhere and was not able to find the hundred dollars. Instead of just admitting her mistake, she unjustly accused another couple, who also paid their check with a hundred dollar bill, of finding the bill on floor and trying to pay their check with it. They were innocent because this couple was even kind enough to show me that they had several hundred dollar bills in their wallets. However, this did not stop this rude and careless waitress from accusing them in front of other patrons. I will never eat here again. I'm sure the other couple won't either. The food is really not worth putting up with this waitress' rude, careless, and insensitive behavior. There are so may other better cuban restaurants in Miami. Trust me do not waste your time or money at La Carreta on 8th st. \r Cons: Lousy service, lousy food, and horrible ambience more

Only as a last resort 6/12/2006

La Carreta is open late and the service is pretty fast, but that's about it. The food isn't so good. The vaca frita is very greasy. Versailles has better food and even better ambiance.\r The ladies' restroom is a claustrophobia-inducing nightmare. Pros: Open late, good service Cons: Below average food more

I deserve the latin food, and cuban cuisine is one of my favorites. I really found in La Carreta Restaurant a nice latin place with delicious plates and desserts, that I enjoy with my family every time we use to take food out of our home. Pros: clean Cons: good service, average prices more
