OK foodies, here goes. You may not know this about me, but in a past life I worked as a professional chef in NYC. That being said I do know a thing or two about food, even though ...

A Hidden Treasure 9/13/2006

After numerous recommendations, my boyfriend and I finally got around to dining at La Cachette this past Saturday. From the moment we stepped inside this quant yet elegant restaurant we felt right at home. The decor is refined yet comfortable, the service is gracious and attentive and the food is delicious yet light. We started with the napoleon of sauteed foie gras and foie gras terrine (one of the three on the menu!) and the roasted pear with gorgonzola. Both appetizers were exquisite. For our main course I ordered the Pekin Duck and my boyfriend had the venison. Both dishes were delectable and expertly paired (mine came with braised cabbage and a thinly crisped potatoes, his came with polenta with blueberries and a puree of yams). I must say that the duck was the best that I have ever had- and I have had a lot of duck in my day! We finished our meal with the chocolate souffle and a peach cobbler (we couldnt help ourselves!) If you are looking for a romantic French restaurant with exceptional food and a relaxed atmosphere, I highly recommend La Cachette. I cant wait to return! Pros: Food, service, ambiance more

Good food but way over priced... 9/4/2006

The food here is very good, the ambience is nice, the location is hard to get to (I guess because of all the construction on Santa Monica) but the food is really expensive. Go here for special occasions, but unless you are part of the Bill Gates fortune, not an everyday eating place. Pros: Good food Cons: Overpriced more

Great French Food 8/10/2006

Great food! I would say one of the best restaurants in LA. A bit expensive. Good service, although could be better. Overall I would recommend if you don't mind spending a lot of money. more

Cute but a little bit expensive 2/16/2006

We had a very nice dinner last week in this french restaurant, we have to say that the food was good but the prices were a little bit higher that we expected. Anyway it was a cute restaurant in LA. I will recommend this one if you are not afraid to pay the price for the quality of food. Pros: food, location Cons: expensive more

Disappointed!!!! 11/8/2005

I heard good thing about this, and I finally tried it! It's a waste of my time and money! Pinot noir is $14 for a big glass filled up only a quarter!!! I had the specialty which is the steak, surely.. it's just plain steak with a big basket of French Fries!!! On that sunday night, there was only one lady server, serving all these tables, plus two bus-boys, cleaning up the plates and filling up iced water. That's why the service was bad and too fast. It's not her fault, but the French/Chef owner for being too ""Cheap"" to hire more on Sunday night. I don't know what the really ""Big Deal"" good reviews from others. To me, it's not a good return of your investment in dining there! Save your money for Frenchy's Bistro in Long Beach. You paid for what you get in French foods and services. Pros: Nothing. Cons: one server., two bus-boys more

Excellent Meal 2/13/2005

The food here is always well prepared and of the highest quality. From the fresh baked bread and olive spead to start the meal, to the the souffles, the entire meal is wonderful. The portions are quite generous (as they should be for the price) and you can taste the freshness in the ingredients. I especially like the fact that the sauces they use on the main courses are not too heavy (i.e laden with butter and cream), allowing the quality of the ingredients to speak for themselves. Too bad the service isnt up to par with the food. Pros: food, portions Cons: service more

Fine French in LA 12/17/2004

La Cachette is one of LA's best French Restaurants and very Romantic besides. The food is cooked to perfection and the portions are large. Having dined their twice in the last month I can say with ease that the food is very dependable, almost like being in France. more

LOVE la cachette 11/4/2004

I love this restaurant, its so cute and cozy, plus the FOOD is amazing. By far the best food I have had in LA..besides sushi :) Ive dined here many times and am yet to have a bad meal! Pros: Food, Service, No wait more

Could be better for the price 6/15/2004

Two girlfriends and I had a belated birthday dinner here on a Monday night. We were the youngest people in there by far (and we're in our late 20's/early 30's!) and less than half of the tables were occupied. The dining room is nicely appointed but the vibe is a bit stuffy. The service was surprisingly mediocre for a restaurant that is considered one of L.A.'s best. The lobster/crab bisque was too salty. The N.Y. steak was fine but nothing I couldn't get at another chop house in the city. At about $70 a person, for an appetizer, entree, and one shared dessert (no alcohol), it was an expensive meal, considering that it wasn't that great. Pros: nice dining room Cons: , mediocre service more

Best French Food in LA!!!! 3/12/2004

This restaurant was amazing, I have never had such good food in los angeles ever!! Everything was great. This was the fifth time I ate here and everything was perfect. The two booths on the side are my favorite. You must try the Tuna Tartar, and the Lobster Salad to start. Then for an entree the duck and the rack of lamb are a must. Also if they have the chocolate tart special dessert, order one its the best dessert I have ever had. Pros: amazing food, nice staff, decor more

Great everything! 1/12/2004

I took my partner here last Sunday night for his birthday and we had a wonderful time. One of the best French meals we've had in the US - definitely rivaling some of the best we've had in Paris and other foodie spots in France. The chef, Jean Francois, came out to talk to all the tables at least twice and everything we ate was excellent - the preparation and the presentation. Sunday night offers free corkage of which we took advantage and appreciated. The service was friendly and very attentive but not oppressive. The room is comfortably formal and impeccably decorated. You'll spend some money here but for what you get it's way up there in value relative to anything else in LA. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

lovely evening 10/9/2003

We went for the first time on a Thursday night for my husband's birthday and it was absolutely appropriate for the occassion. Our first choice in wine was not available which was a small disappointment and no suuggestions were forthcoming for alternatives. Saying this the wine we ended up with was lovely and the food was wonderful. The service was fairly slow to start, but otherwise seemless and unobtrusive. The atomosphere was quiet and calm and the decor beautiful. We could really relax and concentrate on each other rather than our surroundings and if it's rappor with the waiter you are looking for (which we were not) this is not the place for you! It was less expensive than I had expected which is always a bonus, all in all a wonderful night. Pros: great food, unobtrusive service, quiet atmosphere more

French Lite done right!! 8/6/2002

The best rench Resturant in Los Angeles. Easy on the buter and cream allows for emphasis on the fresh flavors. The Lobster Salad is excellent. Blows the overrated-overriced Patina out of the water. more
