Horrible place for dine in, best to order take out. 12/23/2008

I used to work near Kyoto so I've been there a few times, and I refuse to go back. The food is pretty good with very fair prices but their service and drinks was TERRIBLE! If you work or live near Kyoto, I'd advice you to order take out instead of dine in. It will save you from a horrible experience!!\r \r The last time I ate in there with some co workers in Oct, we were pretty much ignored the entire time except for the very rude girls in the front who gave us plenty of attitudes when we walked in. Our food came out pretty fast, so fast that it beat the drinks to the table. I ordered a Mojito and my co worker had a Lychee Martini, they were both the worst we've ever had. Their so called bartender doesn't seem to have a clue about making drinks, she pretty much just threw the mint leaf and limes in for display and filled more than half of the glass with club soda. Also like Jennifer A. mentioned, we also saw the bartender drinking behind the bar (maybe if you stop drinking, you can learn to make better drinks). The worst part of the night was when we found out all of those rude girls were under the age of 21.\r \r I don't understand how this place can stay in business with such bad service and allowing their underage girls in the front drink on the job. Pros: Good food for fair prices Cons: worst staff in the world more

This place was SPECTAC-ular! 12/16/2008

So I went to Kyoto with a couple of my friends and I'm a very picky eater and don't usually go for exotic cuisine, but my experience was amazing. The host staff was very friendly and the mixed drinks were excellent; they have many of their own recipes and have put twists on many common drinks such as the mojito, cosmopolitan, and martini using sake, peach, and other flavorings. And the food! Even though I was venturing out of my comfort zone, the food was especially delicious (I had the black noodles and some of the Kyoto Chef's Salad). The chef's salad was an assortment of sushi presented in a martini glass and it was sooooo good! The thai food was also very flavorful and spicy because I love food with a little kick. Anyways, long story short: check this place out!!\r I had an amazing experience and I'm sure you will, too! Pros: hot staff period. Cons: weekend reservations needed- not a bad thing; just be prepared more

Good food, service and value 11/7/2008

My wife and I recently dined here with my business partners and their respective spouses. Made reservations and were seated promptly upon our arrival. We got a step down booth - you take off your shoes, place them in the drawer and then step into your seating area. The only complaint I had was that they didn't have large bottles of water to share, just individual plastic bottles of Poland Spring (go figure). Everything else about the meal was a delight. Food was tasty and the recommendations were spot on. We ordered several dishes to eat ""family style"" even though that's not what the portions are designed for. Sushi was very good. Not Nobu quality but then again you only pay pennies on the dollar, comparatively! All the appetizers and non-sushi items were decent if not very good. I'd go back there again and my fellow diners have asked me how to get back there again. Not bad considering their tastes are probably even more discriminating than mine. Pros: Very good food, reasonable prices, accomodating waitstaff Cons: Parking not always all that easy more

Flushing-Not just Italian and Chinese anymore. 8/18/2008

I walked in with 3 other people yesterday and was accommodated immediately without reservations. The food was excellent and so were the drinks. Desserts were heavenly, especially the strawberry cheescake tempura. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The price was very reasonable and I would recommend this place to everyone who is open to try something new. Pros: Everything Cons: Peanut sauce was not to good. more

Kyoto is Delish!!! 8/11/2008

The sushi is fantastic and fresh. The warm dishes are tasty and flavorful. I want to add that the management and servers are extremely friendly. Try the Black Pepper and Valentine Roll! They are 2 of my many favorites!!! Pros: Ambience, and the food is amazingly fresh! more

Great for a party... 8/10/2008

My wife and I looked all over for a place to have our daughter's baptism party. Because my wife and I love Japanese food we thought Kyoto Sushi was perfect; Kyoto Suchi was absolutey the perfect resturan for my daughter's babtism party. When my big Italian family who are used to traditional italian food at every party found out my wife and I were going to feed them Japanese, they were all scared, but overall they were pleasntly surpirsed by how good the food tasted (they even raved about it). Durning the party my family was very loud and chaotic, but never once did the managers (Josh, Andy or Brian) say to us quiet down. As the food was being served, my family was out of their seats, but never once did the wait staff complain. At the end ot the night, as I was apolpgizing for my crazy family, the manager said to me it was the first time he delt with such a party crowd, but he loved it. I would definetly recommend Kytoto Suchi to any couple who wants Japanese for their party even if you have a crazy family. Kyoto Suchi is a Very freindly and accomidating place Pros: Very friendly and accomidating Cons: No windows in the party room. more

Great Sushi, less than average service 7/5/2008

I used to work in a sushi restaurant and am very picky about sushi. Kyoto's sushi is AMAZING. Their fried banana dessert is delicious, though simple, and their pad thai is good....HOWEVER I don't go to this restaurant as often as I would like because their service is strange. The servers hover and on many occasions I've had them serve countless other guests before they even took my drink order. They never smile and the hostess has lied to me before about their policy regarding the sit down booths on the left when you walk in. Pros: Sushi and dessert Cons: Service more

Keeps you wanting more 6/30/2008

The ambiance and decor is fabulous. I brought my girlfriend there for a nice and relaxing meal. And we got that and more. The sushi was excellent and fresh. The service was phenomenal. My girlfriend is pretty particular about how her sushi is made. Her order usually gets botched up, but not at Kyoto. Not only was the service friendly, but it was very accommodating. I will definitely be back the next time I?m in the mood for some sushi and sashimi. I can?t wait to try the rest of the menu. Pros: Great sushi and service more

Very Good Food Avarage Service 5/30/2008

The food with very good and really it was better than a lot of places I had tried and the price is convenient however the service there need a lot of renovation because at leat you need to have some of the staff to be qualify for the service and give attention to their guests. At all I enjoyed the meal overthere and I think I will go there again. \r \r more

Fabulous Japanese food and love the decor, nice place for a cute date too 5/12/2008

I abosolutely love this place. The food was great. And yes, I agree with other review about their yummy fried ice cream. I can't get enough of that. I came here on a date recently and it was the cutest place ever. The workers are so sweet. Plus, they're offering a lounge next door. Which is awesome because after dinner you just walk next door and there's a cool place to hang out. Love this place. Pros: Japanese food, service, ambience Cons: Parking on the street more

Haute Cuisine in an otherwise pedantic neighborhood 4/23/2008

In a neighborhood filled with Chinese takeouts, fast foods and pizza delivery franchises, it is refreshing to see a restaurant that serves haute cuisine that too Japanese/Thai. The fact that both are available and tasty and well prepared is wonderful. In fact, one doesnt know whether to eat Thai or Japanese!!!\r Their maki is exquisite and they have a pineapple fried rice to die for! WOOHOO! Pros: GREAT FOOD! Cons: Gets crowded and nearby parking is not eas to find. more

Great Sushi in Queens 3/12/2008

My wife and I had lunch here not too long ago as we had a field trip in Queens together. We decided to go to Kyoto because of their reputation for good sushi and japaneese cuisine. I have to say we loved it. The portions were perfect and the sushi rivaled some of our best experiences in Manhattan. I would highly recommend this place. Pros: super sushi more

Great Decor and Fabulous Valentines Evening 2/20/2008

took my date here for first time on valentines day, i was able to get a nice table for 2 by the bench. really nice decor and sushi was amazing. the whole restaurant was full but it didnt feel rushed as there was plenty of staff on hand. we tried the sashimi salad with wasabi ponzu sauce and mini rainbow tar tar which were great and havent seen at other sushi restaurants. Pros: Great for dates, romantic decor and food was flavorful Cons: on street parking only more

Do not throw a private party here. 10/7/2007

I have eaten here a few times. The food isn't bad. It's reasonably priced in my opinion. However, I recently went to a private party here, and was absolutely appauled when they whipped out plastic cups, paper plates, and disposable flatware to serve 60+ people. If i were the person throwing this party, I would have been totally embarassed, and complained. I would expect a restaurant w/ nice decor such as Kyoto to be alot more classy and serve its patrons on actual PLATES. VERY TACKY using disposables. So if you ever plan to rent out the place for an event, make sure they aren't using paper-goods as if you were in some backyard barbeque or picnic. I have gotten better service at a greasy-spoon diners. Pros: Beautiful decor, not pretentious, casual dining Cons: Don't expect too much... soda is served in a can too, they don't pour for you. more

Not worth for what u get 8/9/2007

i was there last friday ,i was really disappointed .i heard this place was good so i want to give a try.The Thai food was not really good & dosen't really taste like Thai that i usually had, i order 2 dishes, either it taste very salty or no taste, the sushi took long time & wasn't really fresh,,the front staff wasn't helpful because when i was there i talk to the manager about the situation but he dosen't seem to care & it was also very noisy because they had many kids there,i wouldn't recommand this place if u really want a romantic place & good food \r ps: not worth for they you pay for Pros: big place Cons: expensive & service more

5 STAR SUSHI in Queens!! 8/5/2007

Great place for sushi lovers out there. I sat by the sushi bar and watched the chefs make one amazing dish after another. Uni sashimi on a cucumber boat, martini glassed sweet shrimp, and sashimi platters with live fish carved from a carrot! I never found a sushi spot that had such a great display of food garnishing, creativity and design. This place belongs in Manhattan where the high end restaruants are or something. I would bring a group friends because I think they only go all out for larger groups. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Over price 7/30/2007

I went with my buddy there over the weekend. The sushi is not fresh, service is too Amercianize, the waitress didn't smile at all. I have one of their signature disk (special) #51 something, but nothing special about it. For two people and no drink. My check is over $60, but I'm not even full. I'm not recommend it. The restaurant was not even full and I didn't understand why the service is so bad. Anyway, the sushi and sashimi were not fresh. Cons: Not fresh more
