Kuki Japanese Restaurant

I've only been to Kuki three times but have found each experience to be very positive. During this last visit, I had a sald, sushi and Udon noodles. The sald was pretty standard fare. The sushi was fresh and well prepared. The Udon was exceptional and the portions, generous (highly recommend this one). Definitely worth checking out. I purchased a Triangle coupon book recently with a coupon for Kuki in it. I was very excite to try out the restaurant. My husband and I typically love Japanese cuisine like this. However, when we got there, they were not accepting our coupon. My feeling was that, if you put your company and your coupon in a local book like this, you need to accept the coupon you choose to provide. I was very upset, and refused to give them my business that day. We left and went to Fuji San, and had a wonderful evening. I will not be giving Kuki my business, as I do not feel that it is a good business practice to refuse the coupon you offered. more

After searching North Raleigh for great sushi, we always come back to Kuki! The food is fresh and beautifully presented. The service is relaxed, but very friendly and helpful! Kuki is a little haven of yummy Japanese cuisine! Pros: food, presentation, intimate atmosphere, friendly Cons: not the fastest for servie, but the quality of food makes up for it more

Kuki is not a good Japanese restaurant. Much of the food tastes smoky. Additionally, the service on 5 visits has been very slow, with only 2 other tables in the restaurant with guests! We've stopped going there in disgust, and have found other wonderful, authentic Japanese restaurants in the Triangle area, thankfully. We were extremely disappointed with our Kuki experience. more

Favourite restaurant in Raleigh -- excellent sushi and sashimi, great tempura, superb value, speedy and friendly service -- they keep your green tea topped up. There is a great Japanese ambience, not just an American restaurant with a Japanese veneer. At lunch order Kuki Bento for $12 -- soup, salad, tempura, sushi, sashimi and more. In the evening the dinner box is great value at $25, or the chef's special gives you $20 worth of superb sushi. Whenever we go, it seems to be half empty. Strongly recommended. I am sixteen years old and have been going to Kuki since I was thirteen. I love the atmosphere and the sushi most of all! Kuki is my favorite place in the whole world! The staff is unbelievably nice and they're very quick and eager to serve. The sushi chef is the best in the triangle! He knows how to make sushi taste good! You can either sit at a regular table or sit at a low table which is common in Japan. I love their green tea icecream. I do not reccomend Kuki for smaller children though. Kuki is known as one of the most authentic Japanese cuisine restaurants in the Triangle Asian American community. The food is not only delicious but fresh and the variety is unbeatable. I am very surprised by the negative reviews, but I do agree that because it is such a small restaurant the food can sometimes take awhile before arriving at the table, it's definitely worth the wait though! I lived in near Tokyo for over a year and after returning to Raleigh I still longed for really good sushi and a truly Japanese atmosphere restaurant; I found it at Kuki. I'm surprised at any negative reviews, because Kuki has always been my favorite in the Raleigh area. Their sushi has always been the freshest and most trustworthy of any I've had in the area; whereas, I've had questionable sushi at Kashin and Little Tokyo in relation to it's freshness. When I'm at Kuki, I really feel like I'm back in Japan. Also, their miso shiro soup and salad with ginger dressing is the best. The prices are a higher than I'd prefer to pay, but I always know that I'll get good quality for my money. There are only 4 restuarants in the triangle that server REAL Japanese food: (in order) Kuki, Kashin, Sushi-Tsune, and Waraji. Kuki is the BEST! and has the most authentic taste in the triangle. I can say this because I live in Tokyo. I know what the real thing looks like and tastes like. Kuki and a huge menu. If you are new to Japanese food, just ask the wait staff. They are well trained. Tepan-yaki restaurants like Kanki and Kabuki are not Japanese. At those kind of places, my Japanese friends say, "Looks like Chinese food." Waraji is good, but it's a little Americanized. If North Raleigh is too far, then please try Kashin in Cary. Service is sometimes slow. Kuki often has a manpower shortage for wait staff and in the kitchen. However, the head sushi chef is blazingly fast. Make reservations if more than 4 in your group. more

After trying almost all Japanese restaurants in Raleigh-Cary-Chapel Hill area, this is one of the places I'll recommend my friends to come. The menu is very impressive, my girlfriend loves it. :) The best Sashimi in town, also recommend grill items. The fried is a bit oily (still crunchy though).
