My wife and I and two friends of ours went to this new Oakbrook Kona Grill last night. We had reservations for 6:30 pm, when we walked in the restaurant , it was half empty. We noticed a filled bar with patrons and a nice looking bar atmosphere. We were walked to a table and we said we prefered a booth (several were available and no one was in line behind us waiting to sit down). The hostess seemed bothered by our change of she wanted to put us and said, ""Wait here, I need to see what we can do"". This was a bad start -- so after standing there for a couple minutes, we were pointed to one of the many available booths. We ordered appetizers, sushi and steaks. The atmosphere is nice, I would say a 9. The service was just ok, it was very matter of fact -- you could tell this was a chain and not a proudly owned independent restaurant -- service I give a 6. Some high quality chains still go out of their way to treat the customers very well, this was not that type of experience. The sushi was just average maybe a 6, and the food was decent but nothing special at all for the money. We wanted to try this new restaurant and we did. I'd give it a 7 overall. With many 9 or 10's in the area (Mona Mi Gabi, Magnums, Capital Grille, Za Za's, Wildfire, etc...) we'll skip this new place for much better food, service, and similar atmosphere.
Pros: Nice atmosphere
Cons: Chain type service -- food was decent, nothing special
