Seriously one of my favorite restaurants in SLC. Such great quality Japanese food! Its better than many of the upscale sushi joints in town. Their curry udon is to die for! more

great little place 7/16/2009

I first tried Koko Kitchen about 12 years ago, after getting a rice bowl at one of the Twilight Series concerts at the Gallivan Center. I was so impressed, I grabbed a menu and stopped in the next chance I got. I have also had them do sushi platters for a couple of parties I have had. I don't think they advertise that they do that, but just ask and you will not be sorry. The platters they have done for me have been absolutely beautiful, and very impressive. They serve them on beautiful japanese platters for a small deposit which they return to you when you return the platters. Anyway, can't say enough - I work downtown and stop in for lunch ocassionally - usually get the teriyaki bowl and an order of edamame. Great little unique Japanese take-out place that is very different for SLC. Try it if you are tired of the ordinary. more

Pretty good 7/6/2009

I ordered the ebi udon and teriyaki chicken. Both were reasonably priced and had a good flavor. The chicken was thigh meat with skin and little bits of fat still clinging to the meat, so I had to scrape that off. My friend prefers Kyoto's teriyaki chicken, but it is more expensive. Pros: Cheap, fast Cons: Fatty meat more

Small and quiet! 3/12/2009

unlike the other places down town this place goes for quality rather than decor! Don't get me wrong, it's cute and quiet inside! The food was great! I got the Miso soup as everyone recommends! DELICIOUS! Pros: Great MISO SOUP! Friendly service! Cons: Little cold in the step down area. more

awesom! 3/9/2009

the best miso soup ever!!!! no.....seriously.....go get some..... more

Authentic Japanese Homestyle Cooking 1/7/2009

Pretty much all restaurants that claim to be Japanese are lying, they're mostly just sushi-bars. However, Koko Kitchen is one of the few restaurants in Salt Lake that offer a wide variety of Japanese homestyle cooking. I highly recommend the Chicken-Katsu bowl (breaded and fried chicken), and/or the Salmon Roll if you are on a budget. Pros: Cheap, delicious food and sushi more

My favorite Japanese food 7/21/2008

I've tried many Japanese restaurants in Salt Lake City. This place is the best so far. The foods they serve are very close to real Japanese food. more

Terrific Japanese 6/22/2008

I've had Koko Kitchen's teriyaki and several different sushi rolls, and I've never been disappointed. more

Not what I was expecting - higher prices and little variety 6/8/2008

I had been recommended to go to Koko's for quite a while - as I eat out about 6x a week and usually sushi 2x a week. Pros: quaint area Cons: prices are too high and limited variety more

Great Place 5/11/2007

I came here after my friend recomending me to this place. Being from japan, and being a chef, it's as authentic as Utah can be. There is this idiot who left a review here as follow. Pros: affordable and good quality for the price Cons: takes awhile for an order to come out more

Zee Best in SLCeetee 12/29/2006

This place is great, cheap, and the sushi guy will make rolls out of anything you want. Bring strawberries, and he will add some spicy octopus. Don't be put off by the lack of glitter, in fact, come here if you hate glitter. Pros: No nonsense good food ie you can wear sweatpants because no one cares Cons: what to do with all of these extra sparkles? more

Cute little place 3/2/2006

My Fiance and I have been putting off going to Koko Kitchen for months now. We tend to get caught up in our few vegetarian friendly restauarants. But, we finally went, and we were not disappointed. They mark thier menu with little heart indicating whether it is vegetarian or vegan. We got 2 sushi rolls, both were very good. We also ordered a Curry dumpling plate. The dumplings were not good. They were too salty and hard to eat. But the rest of the dish was very good. It came with some rice and veggies and a side of rice noodle salad. It is a cute little shop, and a little bit cheesy, but we will return again for some for sushi. Pros: Veg Friendly, Nice Staff, Location Cons: It could be decorated more

Good but still not my favorite 11/16/2005

We went to Koko Kitchen for lunch the other day, on my boyfriends sisters recommendations. She was raving about it for hours. I still am not sure what the raving was about. The food was good, I had curry tofu, but they use softer tofu then I prefer but my boyfriend liked his chicken teriyaki. The potato salad was different and good. Skip the curry dumplings, they were overcooked and not that exciting. The decor is very interesting, eclectic and but seems to be thrown together haphazardly. There is masking tape hanging from the windows, quickly written notes to return your dishes, random metal rods hanging empty, and elastic bands holding back the curtains. All of that being saidthe food was still good and the service prompt. They were friendly and fast. Overall, it was good and I would return but it didnt knock Ahh Sushi from being my favorite. more

Spoiled by CA Sushi..... 9/6/2005

....I ordered a Philly roll, which was overpriced for what I received, in my opinion. I am from CA and I think I am spoiled living so near the ocean and the quaility and affordability of the sushi there. There was a lot of extra herbs that made my sushi plate pretty, but upon eating a couple on accident, sure didn't add to the flavor. My teryaki bowl, however, was quite good. I definitely recommend that. more

My favourite sushi joint in SLC. 9/22/2004

Some friends and I ambled into Koko kitchen on a lark about a year ago, and were confronted with some of the best Japanese food on six continents. (Maybe on seven.) My favourites are the miso soup and the vegetable roll; my boyfriend appreciates the rice balls. A number of exciting options exist for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. The interior dining area has a bit of a stark ambience, so take advantage of the patio in the summer months and enjoy your food al fresco. Pros: great food, reasonably priced, friendly staff more

It's like mama's dish 1/2/2003

This place is just like its name; it is a kitchen where the food tasted like homemade dish. There is a little backyard where you can enjoy the breeze in summer and bonfire in winter. more

Catering is fantastic 5/20/2002

I've never eaten in at Koko Kitchen, but I was at a graduation party catered by Koko Kitchen and the food went over very well. The whole crowd loved it, and the catering staff was knowledgeable, polite and explained what all of the dishes were. Pros: great Japanese food Cons: hmm. more
