Best food in town 7/7/2011

Best food in town Food is amazing. Every time I come here, I feel like I never want to leave. Very chic atmosphere with a relaxing mood. The service is great and the staff really does a terrific job at taking care of you. The appetizers are delicious. Theres plenty of places to park: theres a parking lot across the street and a parkin garage up the street within walking distance. Most of the time I find myself looking at my watch waiting for the food to come, but here I was so entertained with the fun atmosphere that I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived more

Good authetic Japanese 2/15/2010

Great authentic Japanese food here but they clueless staff have no idea what is good. Don't even bother asking them unless they are Japanese. The American waiters who work here don't really know their stuff. That said, still great food can be had here. Pros: Nice hot dishes Cons: Waiters not knowledgable more

My favorite new sushi bar! The sexy roll and the teru roll are my new favorite things. Plus their patio outback is perfect, I highly recommend it. Pros: Great Sushi, great prices (especially the parking) Cons: none more

Delicious food, excellent service, great price! 6/20/2009

we just had an early dinner at Kiwami (where Tama used to be). they really took care of us. the food was delicious. we started with this sashimi sampler that included those crispy spicy tuna cakes & blue crab roll. so good. had some Spanish mackerel (from Japan) and some Aji. washed it down with some Miso. we will 100% go back! Pros: they know their fish! Cons: too much to try more

For sushi lovers 3/26/2009

I didn?t think that I could have better sushi than Katsu-Ya & Izaka-Ya. Surprise! Kiwame is a culinary event. From the Japanese style decor and delightful service, to the sake nesting in hot water filled pottery. The baby tuna (yeah, the name is a bit disturbing) is the best piece of fish I have ever tasted. The amazing confetti tempura was light and surprising. You can still have all the Katsuya faves but there is so much new goodness. Next time the privet sushi bar the chef himself works at. Absolutely worth a trip to Studio City. Pros: Best Sushi I ever had Cons: none what so ever more

BEWARE!!! They overcharge when you are not looking 3/18/2009

Twice we have been hoodwinked! The first time there were some extra sakis on our bill. OOPS! Then we ordered to go food and they added an 8 percent gratuity....They don't give you an itemized list, just a bill with the total!! Make sure you ask for the list of food! I have found this in another sushi restaurant as well. since you (me) can't read Japanese..they figure you will never know!!! Pros: spicy tuna is good Cons: they will over charge you!!! beware!!! more

Editorial
  • In Short
Upon arrival at this Katsuya-helmed restaurant, you won't be fighting a gaggle of trendsters for a table, nor will you see a space that looks like every square inch has been combed over by a Hollywood designer. With only about 14 tables and a small sushi bar, this humble but upscale restaurant focuses on just one thing--its food, especially the unbelievably fresh sushi.  The cold and hot seafood dishes, such as sunomono, halibut wrapped with uni sashimi, rockfish yuan-yaki and sea bass baked on cedar board, are the house specialties. And for the aficionado, the restaurant offers omakase at $70. Just remember to make your reservations fast, as it may be a rare opportunity to be served by Chef Uechi himeself. Because who knows how long this enterprising restaurateur will be manning the sushi bar here?
