Editorial review from Citysearch 7/8/2013

After having had the fun experience of a few classes at the Kitchen Workshop, I thought it would be a great surprise to celebrate a friend's birthday. She and I arrived first and as we were pouring our glass of wine, our other guests showed up. She couldn't believe it! We laughed a lot, ate too much and took home so many ideas. We can't wait to come back. Thanks so much Art for a great night! more

Cancels classes. Will not return calls or emails. 6/9/2011

The worst. We had attended one class as a family and enjoyed the cooking part, but Art, the owner/chef, was rude and sulky the entire time. The kids enjoyed it though and we decided to give it another try and signed up for two more classes. Art called the day of and cancelled the first class and said it would be rescheduled. For the second class, we called the day of the class to add another friend. Art said that he was just about to call and cancel because he wasn't feeling well. It has now been almost three months. Multiple emails and voicemails have gone unanswered in an attempt to get more than $200 refunded. If your class actually happens, it will be hit or miss if you have an enjoyable time. If your class is cancelled (very likely), then say goodbye to your money. Avoid this place. Period. more

Had a good experience. 3/16/2011

I signed up for a class at the Kitchen Workshop, and as I was searching for the address I ran across these reviews. At the time, there were 2 good ratings, and 5 bad ratings, so I was quite concerned about what I had gotten myself into. I went to the class, and I was keeping my eyes and ears open for any issues I might encounter, but there's nothing bad I can say about the experience -- in fact, I had a very good time, and I would definitely go back again. For a reasonable price (my class was $55 for 3 hours), you get fed + lots of leftovers, free wine, and 3 hours of entertainment -- not to mention learning how to a bunch of things. I think this place is worth another look. more

screwy owner horrible to deal with 9/17/2010

This guy is awful! been trying to plan a private party for 2.5 mo. he was awful getting back to me, and provided me with no info. when he asked for a $300 deposit I said i wasnt comfortable moving forward. Honestly he seems like the guy to take the money and run, or just not show up. So I said I didn't want to move forward. He emailed me ""No problem. Good luck in therapy"". Incredibly insulting and uncalled for. Emails prior to that had been professional on my end. Glad to see others felt the same way. more

Fantastic Cooking Classes 12/19/2009

I’d like to thank you for the great experience I’ve had in boot camp at the Kitchen Workshop. The useful tips, cooking techniques and recipes I’ve learned in the course have really changed the way I cook for my family! I loved the variety of topics we covered from how to hone my knives and chop vegetables in the first class to creating all of the delicious soups, salads and entrees throughout the 10 weeks.\r \r I have always had the desire to become a better cook, but I could never seem to get there by pulling recipes from my cookbooks or even by watching the food network. The hands-on training at the Workshop has been so invaluable for me. Boot camp was the best way by far to improve my knowledge and skills in the kitchen. In addition, the classes were always a lot of fun, and all of the good times and laughs our group shared together were an added bonus while learning!\r \r Thanks again for the boot camp experience, and I look forward to many more enjoyable classes at the Kitchen Workshop.\r Pros: Fun, educational and now I can cook! Cons: I have to go grocery shopping more often, but it is worth it more

Worst Birthday Party I Ever Had!!! 6/18/2009

A group of family and friends went to the Kitchen Workshop last summer for my birthday. Art (the owner and chef) was rude and insulting to everyone. My sister was almost in tears. 10 minutes into the evening, no one wanted to even speak to Art becuase they were afraid of his response. We ended up trying to make the most of it. The food was good, but the evening was painfully tense. I would never recommend this place to anyone... I spent the night apologizing to my guests for such a horrible evening. Art is totally lacking in people skills and manners and should remain in the kitchen where he doesn't need to interact with people. Pros: Recipes and Food were good Cons: Art was rude, insulting to me (the host) and my guests more

Cancelled our class without telling us, then became abusive when I complained. 2/10/2009

Stood us up, then abused me when I complained.\r \r My wife bought a class for the two of us as a birthday gift for me. When the owner postponed the class, we put up with it - but when we showed up for the rescheduled class he brusquely told us it was canceled and made no attempt to straighten it out.\r \r But that's not why I'm writing this. When I sent him an email complaining, he threatened to embarrass me at work and called me names!\r more

Great hands-on cooking 10/12/2008

I bought my sister, my mom, and me gift certificates last year for Christmas, and we used them today to take a class on making pasta, risotto, and gnocchi from scratch. It was awesome! Art is very knowledgable and an excellent teacher. He made accommodations for people based on dietary preference (i.e. vegetarian, light on the cheese), and he had dozens of useful tips. Free wine is an added bonus, and I know that my family and I will be making these recipes (or variations thereof) for quite some time. Pros: It's a group style, it's hands-on, and the instructor was excellent. Cons: You may not like all the food you're eating, and you may not like the group setting. Also, for me, it's a little far. more

Beware if booking a private event. 10/28/2007

I booked a private class with Art for a special even for my family. I had booked it months in advance and my family lives quite a distance from each other so getting together to take the class was quite an ordeal. Art called me the evening before (once all of the travel was complete of course) to say he had back problems and needed to cancel. He does not have any sort of a back-up or contingency plan. I understand that things out of our control happen, but the way Art handled the situation was extremely unprofessional. He was unapologetic. Also, he had trouble reaching me on my cell phone the evening before and I called him back early the next morning. He said ?Should have kept your cell phone nearby?, as if finding out that he was canceling the night before would have made a bit of difference. It is one thing to cancel on someone but entirely different to be rude and unprofessional. I do not recommend the kitchen workshop. more
