Not very nice....... 5/30/2011

I would agree with other reviews I've read here about the owner..........really a rude person. If you're buying or exchanging, she can be friendly and nice. (Sometimes.) But if you have a return........OMG, she is sooooo rude. I, too, have walked into the store dressed in my "walking" clothes, and have been looked up and down like I'm going to steal something. Even when I purchased over $300.00 in jewelry at X-mas gifts, she had a really snotty attitude when I asked for a box for each piece that I was buying. Her employes are very nice and especially helpful, but I don't understand why they work for this woman. I've also seen her talk to her employees in a very short and condescending manner, when they've simply asked her a question.......really inexcusable. I only go there when I absolutely need a gift that I can't find elswhere. The store does have an amazing inventory. more

Good place to shop! 1/17/2011

This is a great place and has everything imaginable that you could think of! I usually stop in once a month and love to check out the new inventory! I can never go in for just 15 minutes ? too much to see ? if you want to really check out the store make sure you have more than just an hour! more

I couldn't agree more with WCMom! 3/12/2009

I take yoga classes nearby and I often stop at Kitchen Table. I've spent more money there than I'd like to admit, but I'll never go back. The owner is unbelievably rude and snooty--I assumed it was because I wasn't nicely dressed (my yoga gear is not terribly stylish, I admit). But the other day I noticed that she was just as awful to a perfectly turned-out older lady who was trying to decide which tablecloth to buy from the sale display. From now on, I'll make the trek to Berkeley and spend my hard-earned dough on 4th Street--The Gardener has much better stuff, anyway. more

I'm done shopping at Kitchen Table 1/17/2009

I have been shopping consistently at Kitchen Table for over 10 years. The store has a lovely section of items but I have been frustrated over the years with the owner's rude and often condesending attitude toward the customers and employees. Yesterday was the last straw. For Christmas, my 13 year old son gave me a heart key chain from Kitchen Table. Within a few weeks, the heart had fallen off the key chain so I brought it to the store for a replacement. This is the first time I have ever brought back an item because of a problem. The store owner, who should know me by now but never seems to show any familiarity or friendly recognition, looked at the broken key chain and said that I was the second person to bring it in with this problem. But then she said that I should not have used the key chain with my car keys (the item did not come with any instructions or warnings, it is sold as a 'key chain'). She said I should have only used it for my house keys (don't most people have their car and house keys on the same ring?) and that she would not give me a replacement key chain because it was "my fault" that it broke. The key chain cost $7.50. Then she walked away before I could even let her know that I was going to buy a new one anyway because I didn't want my son to see that his gift had broken so quickly. I had to go find a sales lady to ring it up. I am done shopping there; a good customer deserves to be treated better. Cons: Lack of customer service more

kithen table 1/11/2009

I have never written a bad review ... ever... but the staff really are horrible and there is plenty of them. They went out of their way to be unkind to my husband and I . It's too bad more

I LOVE THE KITCHEN TABLE 2/21/2008

I have been shopping here for many years. I always find something wonderful. Their buyer has fabulous taste and I can always find a gift here no matter what the occasion. My biggest problem is that I usually find something I can't do without. I have always found the people who work there to be very helpful and willing to tell me about a product, gift wrap, or order something. I think it is one of the best independent retail stores in all of Walnut Creek. I often bring out of town visitors there to shop. more

All Reviews are right on track 1/12/2008

Everyone's comments are on track. I have shopped at The Kitchen Table for a few years and it is wonderful for unique lovely items, somewhat pricey, but the staff does need training in how to treat customers. So I set my expectations, knowing these things about the staff attitude, have a much more enjoyable experience. more

Wonderful unique gifts and friendly service! 12/7/2007

I have shopped here many times - my first stop when I am looking for a unique gift. Is not just a kitchen store, though they have many wonderful kitchen items, this place is a haven for unique items for the entire home. Cool jewelry here too! Their Christmas ornament selection is also top notch during the holidays. I have always received excellent, helpful service here, only positive attitude from the staff, and they gladly gift wrap for free! To the lady that had her two year old in there - common sense would tell you that with so many breakable items in the store, you can't let a toddler roam about in here (I am a mother of two boys and would never have let them wander this type of store). If the staff was a little nervous, I don't blame them! more

Best Place to Buy Gifts 6/27/2007

Kitchen Table is the first place I go to by gifts for friends. Their merchandise is different from what you find at other gift/home stores and they have EVERYTHING. The service is fantastic without being overbearing. They do an incredible job with gift wrap and will even wrap a dish towel with flair. Pros: variety, quality, sesvice, gift wrap more

Worst customer service. 6/23/2007

My mother and I were in this shop looking at table linens.First they act too snobbish to wait on you.The employees are the rudest I have ever come across. My mother was going to purchase some pieces that she admired, but said she just could not buy from such a place.Go elsewhere! more

Love This Store! 6/1/2007

If you are looking for unique gifts, or just plain out fun gifts, this is the place! I love this store and its always a fun experience. The Kitchen Table gets new items in on a daily, so its never the same items in the store, which makes it fun. The owner has a genuine love for her store and it defintely shows. The Staff are extremely helpful, full of ideas and very down to earth. Keep up the good work "Kitchen Table" I will be your forever customer.\r \r Jewels :) more

Demeaning Staff 12/14/2006

During the Christmas Season I was shopping for a variety of items. I thought I found the right one for my sister-in-law. It was a great wooden bowl, it was just right. I picked it up with one hand, not thinking this was a big problem, since there were no signs to tell me differently. Suddenly, one of the staff members shocked me. Not only did she take the other items I was going to purchase from my hand with out asking, she scolded me about how I should know to handle the bowl with two hands. This was very demeaning. This act made me stop shopping. I suggest if you shop here you should realize that people might be ready to help with or without your consent. Watch out. more

Rude staff 3/14/2006

Having been on Kitchen table's mailing list, I went there with my 2 year old son to check out their sale. I know, I know, a two year old is not the best companion to have when going in to a store which has thousands of things strewn all over. A lady standing close to us knocked down something, right away one of the snooty staff members come up to us and grabbed the floor mat my son was holding and said that it was not a toy to play with. That kind of rudeness was not necessary! Not going back there again. PROS: CONS: Needs a better attitude! Hire a babysitter for your kids when you go there more
