Worst Customer Service Ever! 12/14/2009

They decided to tell me THREE WEEKS before my rehearsal dinner that, oops, they were going to under go major renovation and couldn't help me. Terrible, terrible business. Pros: 0 Cons: everything more

Kitchen K 10/12/2009

I go to Kitchen K frequently. They have many great menu items: BLTs are fantastic, as are the Chicken, Pasta specials, Paninis, and Burgers. The carrot cake and Chocolate Ecstasy desert are to die for. Also, they have a terrific staff who take the time to get to know their customers. Pros: Best all around menu Cons: Fills up fast when conventions are in town more

Awesome BLT's 10/9/2009

From previous reviews it loks like a rocky start but I'm a HUGE fan of KK. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Pros: Staff is always friendly Cons: Fills up fast when conventions are in town more

No Good 2/14/2009

Kitchen K was recommended to me by a friend who had actually never been there. They just said that the place looked nice and that was indeed true. The place was nice but that was it. When we arrived there was no hostess... only a sign that said see the bartender for a table. So we went to the bartender who uninterestingly said to seat ourselfs... Ok so we sat ourselfs. Then I don't think we were ever really assigned a server because the service was horrible. We were helped by the bartender in a scrubby t-shirt, ratty blue jeans, and old sneakers. My friend ordered a sprite and got a water, and the mistake was never corrected?? My tea was empty the majority of the visit. Now, the food was also terrible. I ordered a chicken club which shouldn't be too hard to screw up, but it was so hard to chew that my jaw was actually sore afterwards. My boyfriend got meatloaf. Bottomline - it was sick. \r \r No good experience - NOT recommended Pros: Place Cons: Everything else more

Got a better burger at maurizio's 1/18/2009

I have eaten at many different place and many different styles of cuisine. Theservice was okay and the ambiance was above par, the food was not. I took note that after we had left and walked back at a later date that the place was empty and it seemed that very few St. Louisians ever went here. First off the burger that we had ordered was the Hawaiian burger with ""teriyaki sauce"", it had more of an appearance to meconium than teriyaki. The flavor was also not what was typical of teriyaki it reminded me of Worcestershire sauce that was thickened. Now for the burger I had asked for medium to medium well, I got it beyond well done. It was dry and lacked real flavor to it. I was amazed at that I could have just thrown the burger into a microwave to get the same effect and flavor as I got in it. The chips weren't bad, but some were covered in grease. Now on to what I had order. I ordered a special scallop dish with potatoes and grilled zucchini and yellow squash. The scallops were large, but only two of the half dozen that I got had any sort of true topping that were said to be with them. Even then the flavor was just that of the scallops and luckily they doused the zucchini and squash with butter so the scallops sucked up some of the butter to cover for the error. My potatoes were cold and could have been reheated, but the staff wasn't to keen on being around us for very long. We ordered the sweet potatoes fries as an appetizer and they were good but some were very greasy. We did order some drinks and the mixing was a little light for kind of drinks that we got. My favorite part of the whole experience came when I saw in the kitchen all the chefs kicking back and drinking a cold one. Now I don't mind that on their own time, but when you have guests it just sets a bad example and the true quality of the place. If you ever stay in downtown St. Louis I would suggest going almost anywhere than here for the price and quality of food. It just isn't worth it. Pros: The ambience was nice Cons: Everything else more

Waste of time! 9/3/2008

What a waste!!\r I wished I?d taken the time to read the reviews prior to dining at Kitchen Awful I sorry, I mean KitchenK. What a waste of time!! We ate there on Tuesday, September 2, 08. My three girlfriends ordered fish and chip and I had the southern friend chicken. Have you ever tasted food that had been cooked in old grease? How vulgar!!! The sweet potato fries where dark, soggy and lifeless. My chicken was extremely dry and dark. A sure sign of old grease. Still not wanting to complain I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Since I couldn?t finish my dark dry chicken I ordered a batch of fries. Wrong move!!!!!!! What happens to fries when they are cooked in old grease? You guessed it! They soak up all the impurities in the grease. Our waitress brought them to our table and we all looked at them in disgust. I asked the waitress to show them to the owner. I waited expecting some kind of reply. Nothing! A little while later we had our waitress to take him a note concerning the situation, again, no response. Eventually we got the hint. On the way out the door I observed the owner who is so nicely featured on his website sitting at the counter reading his newspaper and eating a salad. He must have been warned about the old grease??? In economic times such as these, when consumers must pick and choose wisely how and where they spend their hard earned money an establishment as thoughtless, uncaring and unprofessional as this must recognize they are in danger of closing their doors very soon.\r more

Good Ambiance 10/24/2007

Upscale, casual dining. Attentive wait staff. Strong drinks. Large dining area with an open floor plan, large windows looking onto the street, high ceilings. with adjacent bar. Not very busy, but nothing else in St. Louis seems to be either. Food ranged from excellent (rich scallops, wasabi mash potatoes and asparagus) to average (an over anised pork loin). All in all a decent place to eat downtown. Pros: ambiance, stiff drinks more

Worst dining experience I've ever had...first time I haven't tipped 4/4/2007

1. Food Temperature. Our food was brought out to us after it was already cold. The cheese had melted on my friend's french dip sandwich, and the meat was freezing cold. The bread was soggy after sopping up all of the au jus that had been left on the plate (Funny, I thought that was the purpose of giving a side cup of au jus, so you could dip the sandwich yourself).\r 2. Food Quality. I ordered the five spice salmon. It tasted like seafood gumbo. I called the waitress over to send it back. She looked at me like I was crazy, and instead of offering to fix it right away, she decided to let me explain all of the reasons why I didn't like it (who wants to go through all of that?).\r 3. Service. After I sent my food back, the waitress avoided our table at all costs, laughing and joking with other patrons. I even called the manager over to see if I had done something to offend the waitress. The only other time the waitress came to our table subsequently was to give us the check. We then complained to the manager about this, and an excuse was made for the poor service, which made my party feel like we weren't taken seriously (the exact comment was, ""Well, she [the waitress] has been with us since we opened and she is actually the assistant manager.""). \r 4. Inappropriate Behavior. As my party was preparing to leave, the waitress went over to have a ""private"" conversation with the manager. Her closing sentence in this conversation was, ""They can go f**k themselves."" We (the four members of my party) were appalled, and one of us went to talk to the manager about what we had all heard. With a wide-eyed expression, she said that she knew that what her waitress had said was inappropriate. When my companion continued to explain her disgust at what had transpired, the manager changed her tune suddenly and denied that an inappropriate comment had ever been made. She then stated, ""we don't want to deal with this anymore, I think we should go our separate ways."" more

Trendy restaurant 2/4/2007

I ate at this restaurant the other night. My friend and I arrived at about 10pm, and we were promptly served. We had Jamaican empanadas for an appetizer, and they were bit spicy. Then we had a few questions about how the entrees were prepared. The server was very knowledgeable, and descriptive. I went with the trout, perfectly cooked, my friend had a steak; he said it was a good steak. For dessert my friend had a carrot cake, very sweet...almost to sweet. I had a turtle cheesecake, and it was a definite chocolate fix.\r \r Overall it was not bad, but I would not be jumping to eat there again soon. Pros: Trendy decor Cons: Parking more

Excellent 5/26/2006

The food was excellent, the service fast and correct. The beverage list delicious, the atmosphere enlightening. Overall, great experience. I am a vegan I actually had a waiter who knew what that meant (unusual). Would definately go back again. more

Not my style 1/27/2006

I'm very excited that St. Louis is revitalizing downtown and that Kitchen K has been a part of that, but this place was not my type of place. Way too modern and sterile of an atmosphere. The food was different, which is nice for a change, but not to my taste. This may be a great place for downtown workers to stop for lunch, but I will not go out of my way to eat here. I would give it another chance if the opportunity presents itself. Pros: downtown location Cons: Atmosphere, food more

Okay for Drinks... food not so good 1/22/2006

My friends and I had heard all of the hype. Decided to check it out. The building is beautiful and that's where the first impression ends. This place is pricey, but the taste (I judge a Restaurants by flavor) wasn't so good. Borderline, bad even. The house specialty drinks... ""martini's "" all tasted like cough syrup. Take what you will from this review but..... My girlfriends have decided .... After work hang out.. cool... Pre-night out drink.... cool Food other than dessert ( flour-less chocolate cake was YUMMY!) no Pros: beautiful Restaurant more

Only Okay 10/30/2005

This restaurant has nice food if you like fusion, but most dishes were spicy. It was a hard place to eat on a restricted diet for a person with a tamer palate. The dishes that would appeal to a vegetarian were limited, and again all pretty spicy. Aside from that the space was noisy and the waitress inexperienced. Overall, this place will appeal to a trend-fancying adventurous eater. more

Disappointing 6/10/2004

We were in from Chicago and Kitchen K was recommended to us so we thought we would give it a shot. The first thing we noticed was that there was no one there... at 8:00 on a Friday night. The space is amazing and seems to have unlimited potential. Even with all that room and only two other tables seated, the hostess placed us at a table in the very back corner of the room. Our server was dressed poorly and presented the specials in a very disinterested manner. The menu looked very promising with globally influenced american fare. However, the crabmeat in the stuffed halibut tasted like it was out of the can and the mahi mahi was overcooked and tough. We couldn't wait to leave. Other St. Louisians must have the same low opinion of this place based on the non-existant crowd. Pros: Menu, Space Cons: , Atmosphere more
