Stay Away 8/23/2011

I went to Kind Optical for new glasses and (hopefully) contact lenses. I experienced issues very similar to those detailed below by aw7919, sixeyes, and Hereitgoesagn. The doctor was cordial enough, but very inflexible. Vision-wise, the contacts she had me try had potential, but were very uncomfortable. Because I had encountered similar comfort issues with that particular brand in the past, I asked to try something comparable in another brand. The doctor was very insistent that any other brand would be equally uncomfortable, despite my experience to the contrary. I gave up on contacts; it wasn't worth the effort. The real problem is in the front of the house. ""Snippy"" and ""rude"" were used below to describe Danielle's dealings with patients. Those terms are 100% accurate. Rather than addressing the issues brought up by the patient, he's blamed for them. I was even told that I had to make compromises with my vision in order to use their superior lenses. There are definitely companies who use this approach to customer service, but it certainly has no place in the health care industry. Unlike sixeyes, I was able to exchange a pair of glasses after repeated complaints. However, I wasn't refunded the $200 difference between the first pair of frames and their replacement. My lawyer said that she'd be able to recover that difference, but like the contacts, I decided it wasn't worth the effort. Everyone at Kind told me that Danielle is the one that should be adjusting frames. The others pinch hit, but they're not that competent at it. That's OK as adjustments aren't part of their job descriptions. The problem with this, however, is that Danielle can't tell you from one day to the next when she'll be in the store. When you do find her, you feel like she's in a rush and wonder if she's doing things right. She doesn't even clean your lenses unless you ask. (That's a built in service that's done without question everywhere else.) When she does clean them, you have to give them back because they're still smudged. The worst experience was when Danielle left me sitting while she took a 15 minute call from her cellular phone company. She went to another room, but you couldn't help but hear the conversation throughout the store. Ironically, she was looking to have money refunded; it was very much like the problem I was experiencing with my glasses from Kind. My advice? Stay away. Kind is expensive, and products are pushed on people even if they're not appropriate. The hours are short, and the person who's the ""face"" of the company is rude and inattentive. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. more

Horrible 6/11/2011

I have been getting contacts for years through another eye doctor, always paying the same amount for contacts, or at least only marginal differences each time. I was forced to go elsewhere after my old doctor cut his hours and none of his remaining hours worked with my schedule. I chose to go to Kind Optical, had an eye exam, and was astonished to find that they wanted HUNDREDS of dollars more for my contacts because I needed a ""special"" lens, when my old lenses worked just fine! After having a rude, snippy conversation with both Danielle and the doctor, and being discouraged over and over from going back to my original lenses-which my old doctor NEVER discouraged and I NEVER had a problem with, I was told that they still charged a substantial amount more than my old doctor! I said forget it, and ordered my contacts online for $100 less than what they wanted. Patient beware! As a member of the healthcare field, I can tell when things are being ""pushed"" onto laypeople without having knowledge in what is being pushed onto them, and they were 100% being pushy and offering no options, and not allowing me any say in my care. I was only ""allowed"" to have my old type of lenses after dealing with unprofessional attitude- and being treated extremely poorly! Patients should have say in what they are proscribed, and Kind Optical definitely does not cater to that. I strongly suggest you go elsewhere. more

Love them 5/19/2011

I have been a patient of Kind Optical for many years, The staff has always been great to me and my family. They have a wonderful frame selection with alot of color and unique designs. Kind Optical has been the best optical office I have ever been to. The staff is caring and understanding, they take the time to go over my insurance benefits and will always answer any question I may have. They also have always taken the time to show me new products that might benefit me and I appreciate that. I'm not just a number or anoither sale. more

Beware 5/16/2011

If you choose to buy glasses at Kind Optical, be prepared to be met with a high pressure, aggressive sales approach, much like you'd expect from a used car salesman. If you state that you feel something might not be right for you, the sales person will invalidate your concerns and assure you that you'll love the product. Unfortunately, there's no satisfaction guarantee. Just like buying a used car, if your glasses don't work out for whatever reason, you're stuck with them. If you choose to buy at Kind, go with your instincts rather than whatever the sales person tries to ram down your throat, especially given the absence of a guarantee. If you're not comfortable, walk out and take your prescription to a provider that offers a more professional approach along with the ability to exchange eyewear that doesn't work out. more

Love them 12/4/2010

I have been going to Kind Optical for years and I have not once had any issues. As soon as I walke through that door I am greeted nicely. Dr. Merkle is so pleasant and Danielle is so knowleadgeable I am able to get the best deal. I just recently needed to get my kids eyeglasses repaired for the secind time and unfortunately my insurance did not cover it. With Danielle's help, I was able to get them repaired for a fee that I was able to afford. I will forever remain a customer. more

I have been a Kind Optical customer for four years. Danielle, JoAnne, and Dr. Merkel have provided nothing but first class service. They are polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. more

Awesome office 5/21/2008

I had purchased my sons glasses from kind optical and the staff was extremley helpful with picking out something durable since he is really rough. We never needed any adjustments until he had broken them playing football. I had taken them in to see what could be done. The glasses were unrepairable. The office manager had told me not to worry about it and she would replace them at no charge. I was extremely greatful. I really could not afford to buy him new glasses. My son enjoys going into the office to visit with the staff. I would highly recommend this office to everyone especially if you have kids. You will not find another office that is this helpful and kind. more

Horribly rude 5/7/2008

I was extremely unhappy with the service I received at Kind Optical from the very beginning. The personnel is not very friendly and the doctor is even worse. I was most unhappy with my contact lens fitting/exam. The doctor basically insisted that I start using a new type of contact, despite the fact that the contacts I had been using for over 3 years were working just fine for me. Of course, the new contacts are much more expensive than the ones I used in the past, and at Kind Optical the price is much higher than anywhere else. I chose to buy the contacts elsewhere and less than a month later, I am having issues with the contacts popping out of my eyes. So, I called Kind Optical to ask if they could change my prescription so I could begin using the contacts that I previously used, again. They told me that I would need to pay for another contact exam. They also told me that I was probably having problems with the contacts because I didn't purchase them from their office, so they may not be as high of quality. They have an excuse for everything! I will never go back and woldn't recommend this place to anybody. more
