Best

I'm a vegetarian and sometimes have trouble finding good veg options at local restaurants, but Pao Lim has great tofu and veggie options. (They have similar meat versions for you...

Worst

Our first visit was poor. I've heard accolades about this place, but the food was bland and greasy. Avoid the manchurcian chicken: simple, bland, and way too breaded. Singapore no...

Food is not good! 9/28/2005

I was not pleased with my dinner. I had the roast duck, which was dry and cut into bony pieces that made finding meat awkward. I went with a group of others, and I tasted two other entrees. In both, the chicken was overcooked and dry. On the other hand the service was good, and my pear tart dessert was great. Overall, I would not recommend. Pros: Service, Dessert Cons: Dinner Entrees more

Best Chinese/Pan Asian Food 4/4/2005

I can't stress enough how fantastic the food is here. Even if they made me sit outside by the dumpster, I might just do that to get their food on a busy Saturday night. I highly recommend the green papaya salad, salad w/salmon, orange chicken, Mongolian beef, and the seafood in black bean sauce. It's not your neighborhood Chinese joint by any stretch. Truly a culinary wonder without being the least bit stuffy or fru-fru. It's worth the drive if you live 30 or more minutes away. Service is good, but better during the week like most restaurants when they aren't packed. I am never disappointed and have been many, many times and with different groups of friends and family. Everyone I take comes back again on their own. Pros: 5-star food, great service Cons: busy on Fri/Sat night more

Very bad service 3/30/2005

The service at this place is very bad. I did go there 3 times, as I love Pan Asian food. The food was very spice. The waiter did not even care to come and ask us how the food was ? or did we need a glass of water? When I asked for a glass of water he did not get me one. This was not just for one time but it was the 2'd time that I felt that the service is very bad. Personally I feel don't waste your money going to a restaurante were the service is this bad. Pros: good food Cons: bad service more

Great all around, a great value 3/25/2005

Pao Lim has great food at reasonable prices, courteous service, and nice classy ambiance...a rare combination if you are looking to dine in style on a budget! They're also open for lunch. They offer favorite standbys and interesting twists that fuse Chinese/Thai/Indian influences, and it's always fresh. Try the pakoras for an appetizer....yum!! The deserts are amazing...homemade gelatos with fresh fruit to die for...the pistaschio ice cream is packed with fresh nuts and actually tastes like pistaschios, without any artificial flavoring or coloring. Quality food, courteous service, a great value all around. Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance more

Great food, very good service 10/19/2004

I have been here on numerous occasions with friends and family and I have never been disappointed. Love the food, service is very good. They have a number of vegetarian entrees and will accomodate for special requests Pros: Vegetarian friendly, Good Service, Ambience more

Best Spicy Flavor 11/30/2003

I'm into spicy food and when I found this restaurant by accident, i was thankful to live close by. Food in the triangle is fairly low on the flavor scale in my opinion. I was soo happy when i came here. Best chinese/Indian food around, and I;ve tried plenty. The proportions are great, to order one plate per person is ambitious. I highly reccomend this restaurant in an intimate setting where a few people can share the food like a family. There is an Indian waiter there who is exceptionally nice. Ive never been unhappy eathing there. Pros: service, food quality, food variety more

Must dine here ! 1/17/2003

I had reserved table for a group of 16 on New Years's eve. We had 3 toddlers in the group. The restaurant was very flexible and helpful in working with our schedule and group. The restaurant has a nice ambience. The bar is to one side while the dining area is to the other. The food is very tasty with a good combination of Chinese and Indian flavor. They don't use MSG. I ordered Spicy Chicken with Peanuts and it was very delicious. Some vegetarians in the group enjoyed fried rice. Lots of other vegetarian dishes on the menu. The dessert was mediocre. Chocolate Cake was not moist on that day. Overall a very good restaurant. Pros: not too expensive, nice ambience more

a surprising find 12/17/2002

A friend & I were headed for another restaurant & decided to eat here because of the good reviews I'd read. What a great place - terrific food & pretty inside. As a vegetarian, I really appreciated having a choice. Have been back several times since & have never regreted it. Pros: terrific food, ample parking, pretty inside more

Heaven on earth 11/5/2002

I know people rave about PF Changs, but they should give this a try too. The food is phenomenal, the service is great, the food is phenomenal...........I love this place! Pros: variety of dishes, vegetarian offerings Cons: crowded on weekends more

The last word in Indo-Chinese Cuisine 10/12/2002

I have been waiting for ages to get some Indo-Chinese food in Durham... I have been well rewarded... The secret to getting a great dish is to speak with the proprietor... He hails from Kolkota (Calcutta), India and is fluent in Hindi... He always has great suggestions for non-veggies and veggies alike, which are off-the-menu... For the veggies - try the Veg. Manchurian... Also ask for the American Chop Suey... They are to die for;-) For the non-veggies - try the Chilli Chicken... Each bite reminds me of the good ol' days in Mumbai (Bombay) when I would be standing next to a push cart in the middle of the nite having my fill of Indo-Chinese... People, this place is a must to eat at! I am sure there is a very remote chance of competition since the owner has 4 cooks imported from India... more

Jaded cynic is impressed 9/7/2002

Food and presentation are both exceptional, far beyond the norm in the Triangle. I like Indian food. I like Chinese food. Now I like Indian/Chinese fusion food. It's hard to pick a loser from the menu. Portions are substantial so you may not be able to deal with dessert, but do yourself a favor and at least look at the highly creative and decidedly atypical dessert menu. If nothing else, you'll get some neat ideas if you enjoy cooking. I was amused by the ""waiter took a call on his cell phone"" review, which appeared practically (maybe entirely) verbatim some months ago in a review about another Asian restaurant in the Woodcroft area. Not sure what that reviewer's agenda might be, but I found Pao Lim's wait staff to be exactly what I wanted...there when you need them, invisible when you don't. Pros: Food, Creativity, Service Cons: Location more

Any other chinese pales 8/29/2002

This place is wonderful. Food is delicious and nicely presented. more

Not so hot 8/29/2002

Our first visit was poor. I've heard accolades about this place, but the food was bland and greasy. Avoid the manchurcian chicken: simple, bland, and way too breaded. Singapore noodles OK but greasy. Service OK. Kinda loud inside. Atmosphere is kinda neat until you realize it's an old Hardee's. (Look for the drive-thru.) more

Try the General Tso Chicken 8/16/2002

Have eaten at Pao Lim 3 times...can't wait to go back again. First 2 times were take out, so I couldn't appreciate the decor of the dining area nor the service, only the wonderful food. The third time, while dining in the restaurant, I could appreciate the real value and great service. A Definite must-try. Pros: Service, Value more

Fusion Food 8/4/2002

Fabulous food at a great price, the fusion of Indian & Chinese cuisine is a treat. Attractive interior as well more

The best food ever!!!!!!!!!! 5/22/2002

Ever since we moved here in US, we missed chinese food with Indian touch, how we used to get in India. We don't anymore because of Pao Lim. It's the best Indian Chinese food I have ever had. The decor is amazing and people are very polite and helpful. I can eat there everyday. And it's pretty reasonably priced as compared to other really bad chinese restaurants in the area. Go Pao Lim!!!! more
