Great atmosphere, service and food 11/10/2011

I was looking for a local restaurant that had great food and was quiet enough for a business meeting. I wanted atmosphere, service, quality food, and an intimate setting where important introductions could be made and a business relationship commenced. I was not disappointed! The food was excellent: we had the lamb, snapper, kobe beef and tuna, along with the best lobster bisque I have had in the city! The setting was intimate enough to where we could speak without having to raise our voices, and our waiter (Ryan) was unobtrusive but attentive. Overall, we had a great evening and I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat. more

I have had the best experience in service and food at Killen's Steakhouse! i am glad it has been awarded as the 4th best steakhouse in TEXAS! the amazing Chef and his staff deserves it!! my steak has always been perfectly cooked...the servers know the wine list and how to pair it with my food and his breadpudding it is to die for!!! :) Last time I was there I tasted his Cream of Corn which is being featured in Food in Wine this month and it is fantastic!!! So thank you Killen's Steakhouse for my best experience eating the best steak of my life! :):) more

My Birthday Was Ruined 12/8/2010

We tried to go to Killen's for my birthday friday night. We called for directions. The woman who answered the phone told us to take 288 to 35 and turn right, then go past 518. Well we saw signs for Angleton and called the restaurant, and were assured we were going the right direction. We kept heading south, called again, and again were were assured we on the right path. We finally found hwy 35, off of 288 and went right as we were told. I called a friend for directions then and found out is was 30 miles back the way we came off the beltway. We then called for a manager, I believe Paul, who was unsympathetic to this hour and a half tour we had taken because the person who answered the phone, clearly did not know where she was or how to get there. We went to Flemmings since it was close to 10 when we got back to the beltway. We left the house at 8. Thank you Killen's for making me spend my evening driving all over the place. I sent an email and it was never answered. I think customer service is the first place you start, clearly Killen's Steak House has none. more

Good Food, Needs a nicer location. 11/5/2010

Steak was a ""8"", sides were a ""9"", desert a ""9 "".\r The atmosphere was a ""5"".\r The serrvice was a ""6"". \r The parking lot was a ""2"". \r \r Overall rating ""7.5"".\r \r If food is you only concern then you'll like this place. \r If you want a romantic and/or classy dinner for about the same price, then go to ""Marks"" or ""Post oak Grill"". more

Better than I could have imagined 8/10/2010

I have tried most of the steakhouses in the Houston area, however, Killen's rands as the best i have tried. The sides dishes are better than Flemming's, the desserts are better than anyone (try the Cream Brulle Bread Pudding), and the steaks....par none! My only complaint was the hostess seating us in a bad area even though we were the first people there and her mini skirt that would be perfect for a street walker. Enjoy! more

EXCELLENT STEAKS 9/5/2009

Unbelievably DELICIOUS!!! 8/11/2009

Husband and I went for anniversary dinner. Made a reservation and table was ready when we arrived. We let the sommelier help us choose a wine and it was PERFECT! Tuna appetizer, filet, potatoes au gratin all superb, and then came the dessert -- oh my gosh! The creme brulee bread pudding was incredible! Service was exceptional - very attentive but not intrusive, and we didn't feel rushed at all. My only complaint was it was very cold in the room where we sat, and the tables were slightly crowded. Otherwise, awesome! As soon as I save up, I'll be back. Pros: excellent food, service, great sommelier, not rushed Cons: ugly buidling more

Make reservations, Incredible service 6/12/2009

Beware if the hostess is bringing you to sit in the back room, there was a party of 18 people back there when I went and I couldn't even hear my waiter when he was speaking it was so loud. Plus where the table was situated where I sat, it was SMALL even for just two people, was right up on the wall, had the air conditioner vent at my back, and a door to the outside on my side, not a very intimate scenery or feel at all. Instead I felt cramped while eating and even while cutting my steak my knife and elbow were hitting the wall cause our table was so close.\r Onto the food....now wedge salads are my most favorites, Killan's menu makes it a point to name Apple wood smoked bacon on this salad, which to me is a huge part of the salad, however, if you are looking for more than literally a FEW small specks of the bacon on your plate you will be hugely disappointed. I found the total bacon to be on my salad equivalent to my pinky nail, thats NOT exaggerating. The 6 oz Center cut was delicious, no complaints. I also shared two sides: potatoes au gratin and the sauteed mushrooms, which were equally delicious and just enough for two people. For dessert I tried the award winning bread pudding, now this bread pudding is out of this world and possibly the BEST I have ever eaten. The wait staff was extremely attentive, always had our iced tea full, checked on us several times thru out the meal, and was prompt. The hostess, well, could be more welcoming and don more professional attire. Overall, food was good, atmosphere not so much, and wait staff was attentive. Pros: Attentive wait staff, Best bread pudding & iced tea Cons: Noisy, cramped, more

Not worth the trip 6/6/2009

My husband and I wanted to try a different place so after reading all the reviews, decided on Killens to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had reservations but still had to wait over 30 minutes for a table unless we wanted to sit by the bathroom. The service was somewhat slow but very nice wait staff. We ordered crabcakes, bone in steak, wedge salad, cream corn and potatos and a bottle of wine. Our meal was $300 eventhough we split everything. The corn was incredible but the remainder was nothing better then a steakhouse buffet. If you want a great steak, go to Capital Grill or Strip House...... Pros: Good wait staff Cons: A special and very pricey more

not the best steak house 5/7/2009

I try the Kobe long bone ribeye, and it S..ck. I eat kobe beef all the time in vegas and new york, and trust me it is not even closed. First of all, good KOBE Beef cost $30 to $40 a OZ.....final.... no if or but. The mac n cheese was dry, the spinach was good, the kobe steak was tough, but the service was good. I try almost every steakhouse in houston, if you want good steak try these restaurants: flemming, papa steak house, capital grill, and del fisho....place look nice, good tasting steak, good side order, and excellent service. Pros: good service Cons: bad steak more

BAD Manaagement-BAD Waiter-BAD Experience. 1/25/2009

We made reservations 2 weeks in advance for our 30th wedding anniversary. My in-laws had tried the restaurant about 3 weeks ago and couldnt stop talking about it. We had to wait abut 15 minutes for our table to be ready. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, and the crab was good but the shrimp was fishy tasting. Next was salad and french onion soup. The soup was cold, and we had asked for bread when the soup was brought to the table. We never got a chance to complain about the cold soup, as we never saw the waiter. The bread was finally brought once the soup and salad dishes were removed-not what we had in mind, but it gave us something to do during the extended wait we had until our steaks arrived-at least 30 minutes. All 4 steaks arrived cold, and had obviously been sitting undelivered for at least 15-20 minutes. One ribeye did not look or taste right, and we told the waiter it was a sirloin strip. When the manager came over we told him that all the steaks and the 2 potato sides were cold. He disappeared to get a tray, and finally took the food back to the kitchen 10 minutes later. Imagine our surprise when he returned with a fresh replacement for the suspect ribeye, and the other 3 original steaks. The 3 steaks were STILL cold, and had been sitting under heat lamps for the past 30 minutes. Since it was a special occasion and we were not alone we chose not to make a bigger deal of the situation. The manager seemed surprised that we expected FRESH HOT steaks. He eventually took off two of the steaks off the bill, but it was still expensive for BAD SERVICE, cold, heat lamp heated steaks, and cold side orders at $7 each for some less than impressive potatoes. Overall we were there 2 1/2 hours, and did not have dessert (and it wasnt offered), Save the drive to Pearland and enjoy the luxury of V*i*c & A*n*t*h*o*n*y*s downtown. Same prices, awesome service, much nicer surroundings, and Good Food. Pros: Convenient to Pearland Cons: Bad service, atmosphere and food below par more

Best Resturant South Houston 1/2/2009

Visited Killen's New Year's Eve and was treated to the best meal of my life. I have noting bad to say about the establishment. If I had to nit pick the biggest issue facing the restaurant is the parking. Some people may complain about the price, I would not agree with this. I will be honest and say that I cannot afford to eat there on a nightly basis, but for any special occasion it is a must. For people that live outside of Pearland the restaurant can seem troublesome to find. Don't let this stop you from making a reservation and taking the drive. Killen's was graded the 10th best steakhouse in Texas. I think it should have been a little higher on the list. If you know what good food is you need to visit Killen's and if you don't know what good food is take a drive and let them educate you. Pros: FOOD!!!! Cons: parking more

average meal, great desserts 11/29/2008

We'd been trying to get to Killen's after reading about it in the Chronicle. We started with shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were very clean and fresh tasting. The creamed corn was okay, a little sweet with a little kick. The asparagus was a tad bitter. The bacon-wrapped filet was very tender with a heavily smoked flavor. The Kobe filet was not cooked properly. The outside was a perfect medium-rare while the inside was rare with the consistency of Jello. The grilled shrimp were simply grilled shrimp with no frills. Now the desserts were pretty good. The bread pudding was made with croissants. The carrot cake is served hot. Both desserts are enough for at least two people.\r \r The parking lot is dreadful. The building doesn't look like a building you'd go to for an $85 steak. The decor is simple. The noise level at an 8:00 dinner was quite high.\r \r The service was good. The waitstaff seemed to be well informed of the menu items and technique.\r \r From all the reviews and published articles I'd come across, I was underwhelmed with my visit. For the price, I expected a spectacular meal in a fine dining atmosphere. I do not see another trip to Killen's in my future. Pros: desserts, good service Cons: dinner, price, parking, location more

Best steak I have had...and I have had a lot! 9/9/2008

So, this is the first time I have reviewed a resaurant. I use Citysearch all the time but I guess I have never been so inspired to actually review a restaurant until now! I can not stop thinking about how good this restaurant is. The service was amazing...our waiter was knowledgable, answered all our questions thorougly, helped choose an awesome wine. We ordered crab cakes and scallops for appetizers and both were delicious. I had the dry-aged ribeye as an entree and I have to say that it was the best steak I have ever had! Dry-aged is the way to go! I live in Houston, eat out a lot and have eaten at every acclaimed steakhouse in the area and have always declared Pappa's as my favorite but now Killen's has taken the title. I can't wait to go back and I am telling everyone about this place. This place is well worth the drive to Pearland. The only drawback is parking. Pros: Best Steaks, Best Friendly Service Cons: Parking more

The New King of Steaks Is Now Located In Pearland, TX! 7/29/2008

My wife and I have dined at Killen's three times so far. I was surprised that it took me so long to find out about it. What was funny is when I walked in the first time, I ran into two old friends that are always looking for a great steak, and there they were chowing down on what I later tasted as the best steaks west of NYC, and that includes anywhere in the Great State of Texas, bar none in my opinion. You want Kobe, you got it, but I love their dry aged prime NY Strip as my favorite so far. \r We have been just the two us, my wife and I; another time with another couple, and even with a large group of about fifty. We never had a problem, but you do have to keep an eye open for it as you drive. Parking is limited, but we have always found a place. The service has alwats been wonderful, in fact, they seem to add that personal touch and have made us feel right at home. \r \r What elese can you ask for in a great place like this... Great company, great service, and wow what a great selection in steaks... dry aged, wet aged, kobe, whatever cut you want... we can't wait to come back. It sure beats having to drive home from the other great steakhouses located well into Houston or out Katy way. Perry's we also enjoy, and Chris better pay attention to this neighboring steakhouse.\r Seriously, finally having more than a few great places to dine in the Greater Clear Lake Area isnow a fact and I love it.\r OK, pass me those crab cakes!\r \r Only neg. is the small parking lot, and having to roll my window down on these hot summer nights, so I can locate Killen's by that aroma, since it is so small that we have a hard time finding it. Thanks for our GPS now, its no trouble, LOL. Pros: Great Steaks, Crab Cakes, Deep Sea Scallops, and Service Cons: Parking Lot, maybe need Valet instead. The outside hides the wonderfulness inside, so, (Don't Read the Book by driving up to this place) more

HORRIBLE RUDE STAFF 7/9/2008

My husband made reservations to celebrate our anniversary, but we were turned away because I was not in ""proper attire"" . I was wearing a nice top, skirt, and white patent sandals from Ann Taylor. I was told flip flops were not allowed, though I wouldn't consider my sandals ""flip flops"". Anyway the experience was horrible. The outside of the building looks like a shack, but my sandals were not good enough for them. more

Delicious food in the suburbs... 2/15/2008

Reservations are recommended (by phone) at this small, quaint restaurant. The exterior truly looks like a BBQ shack, but the interior is a cute, low-ceiling, simplistic, white table cloth restaurant. The waiters are knowledgable, the wine list is good, the food is excellent. The crab cake and fried roma tomatoes were delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked, the side dishes are family-style. We had the creamed spinach and the potatoes au gratin, which were excellent. The Chicken Francese was a bit too rich for me; fried chicken with a creamy mushroom sauce atop creamy tomato basil pasta. The bread pudding was excellent and surprisingly light. Although the name, Creme Brulee Bead Pudding is misleading as it has no crispy, caramelized sugar topping. A great place to dine when you don't want to make the 30 minute trek into town... Pros: delicious food, close to home Cons: parking more
