Best Sushi in Balitmore 6/6/2009

My friend and I are in Baltimore for a week long conference. We are both lovers of Japanese Sushi food..and were keen to find an authentic Japanese Sushi place in town. Kiku sushi has not disappointed us at all. The ingredient i.e. freshness, taste and quantity are all above average. I have been to quite a number of japanese restaurants myself. This place ranks 8/10 ...with the authentic and home warming setup..it deserves to be the best sushi place in Baltimore... Pros: Good Food, Great Service and authentic Japanese more

Best Sushi Hands Down!!! 4/16/2008

I have been to many sushi restaurants around Baltimore, Towson and Annapolis. I have also eaten sushi in Korea and at authentic Japanese restaurants in New York and Philly. Kiku Sushi compares to the best Japanese Sushi I have tried. The rice is perfectly seasoned and not hard and dry like many places. The portions are not skimpy what-so-ever, and the taste is fantastic. I have gotten to where I compare other sushi places to Kiku when I am out of town. The simply just make me look forward to getting back to Baltimore! So many places serve you rolls with flavorless, dry rice that can stand up to sitting in the soy sauce bowl and still holding its form. Who wants that? Kiku's rolls melt in your mouth with the perfect consistency and flavor! And the Sunomono... other places can take a lesson from Kiku. When I lived in Annapolis, I would drive up just for that! Now, the kitchen chef doesnt speak english, and the sushi chef takes his time to make each plate with perfection, but when you are waiting for art, you can not rush it. It is completely worth the wait!!! Oh, and the lunch specials will keep you coming back!!! Large, tasty, outrageously inexpensive and filling! Mmmmmm! Pros: Tasty, inexpensive, generous, filling portions! Cons: You might have to wait a bit, but hey, its art! more

Best Sushi in Federal Hill 8/20/2007

I've lived in Federal Hill for 3 years and while there are many good sushi choices in the neighborhood - Kiku is definitely the best of those choices. The atmosphere, while a bit stereotypical, is cozy and the family that owns the restaurant are very friendly. The sushi chef can be slow at times, but its well worth the wait. I am not a huge sushi fan myself, but my girlfriend is - so we do eat there quite often and I am often pleasantly surprised that I like rolls at Kiku I previously was not a fan of at other sushi restaurants. Pros: Best sushi around, very friendly staff Cons: Can be slow at times more

Why the raves? 7/24/2006

I went to Kiku sushi recently to check on the hype. Though sushi is my comfort food, I never tried it because it looked like the Teriyaki Boy chain of sushi places that I remembered from New York. All of the positive reviews made me think that I might be msising something. While the family that owns the establishment is nothing but friend y and nice and actually Japanese (a plus for sushi places around here), I can only say that I was disappointed. The fish quality was below average and the rolls were made loosely and the rice was not well seasoned. I have had better sushi from Whole Foods. The only positive thing I can say is that the prices were below average for sushi, which is why I can understand others being happy with the place. When it comes to raw fish, you need to be careful and more food for less money can do some damage. more
