What a fantastic place for a hearty meal! They have everything Japan has to offer in here and more. I could always get back for more and I would certainly go back. more

Best Sushi in Nashville! 6/11/2010

Ken's is without a doubt my favorite japanese restaurant in Nashville. Its a hip place to hang out right between the village and the gulch. They have great prices and the sushi is always fresh and fast. They have yummy special rolls and Happy Hour 5-8 every day... 2 for one Sake! I have been everywhere for sushi in nashville but Ken's wins hands down! The atmosphere is so cute and so are the waitresses! If you go there make sure to say hi to Ken, he's the one who makes your sushi so quick and delicious! He's a cutie too. more

Uninvited dinner guests, and they didn't seem to care?! 2/20/2009

So I haven't been to Ken's in years but went there this week on a date. Just as we were washing down our 2-4-1 beers, I noticed a ""creepy crawling guy"" scurry across the wall between the dinning room and kitchen. I pointed the uninvited dinner guest to the sushi chef... he then pointed it to a waitress who, rather unwillingly, dawned rubber gloves to remove it. However, it could not be found as it had escaped behind some pictures on the wall. We asked to cancel our order and our waitress had the nerve to ask why. As if insects aren't reason enough... and she made us pay for the beer?! We finished the night at Samurai, much better! more

Good food, but not very clean... 2/9/2009

I ate at Ken's last week after finding out that Taste of Tokyo (R.I.P.) shut down. The food was great, but at the end of my meal, I saw a la cucaracha on the west wall in the back room by my table. Needless to say, I didn't take my bento box leftovers home. more

Great sushi; crowds can be nuts 1/25/2009

Let me first say that the sushi gets an ""A"" in my book. The price was great and the food excellent! We loved the Nashville roll and the crunchy shrimp roll was great. The staff is so friendly and helpful. However, we went when there were a bunch of sorority girls there for a party and they all had to pay for each ticket separate and whine and complain about everything and it took them an hour to get out of the store when they were done. The staff took it well-along with their small tips. \r \r It can be a bit hard to find parking on the weekends but once you do, prepare for some of the best sushi in Nashville! Pros: taste, wait staff Cons: parking, other customers more

Not bad, but not great 1/2/2009

This isn't the worst or the best for Japanese in Nashville. My sushi ordered was just ok, and my friend had udon noodle soup which had a tainted water taste to it (we're big udon soup fans). The server also forgot something I ordered but I think it's because she misunderstood us. Cons: strange water taste more

Great sushi at a great price 11/24/2008

Ken's has great sushi, especially for the price. Plus ladies, the last time my friend and I were there we had two different tables buy us drinks... you can't beat that. Everyone there is very friendly and the servers can actually understand English (a definite plus!!) Simple yet delicious! Pros: Open friendly environment, great price Cons: parking can be a bit tricky more

Best Philly Roll in Nashville 6/24/2008

Ken's, by far, is one of the best sushi places in Nashville ? and one of the cheapest. The philly roll is the best I've had anywhere ? the perfect potion of cream cheese and salmon. They also have red bean ice cream, which is dee-lish! The staff is always very nice and they recently went smoke-free. Pros: Great, cheap sushi Cons: It's your average dive restaurant. more

Disappointing if you are looking for authentic Japanese food. 5/10/2008

We ordered the Mongolian Beef; it was accompanied with mixed vegetables, rice, and an orange. The mixed vegetables were not fresh and the beef had gristly fat throughout it. I was also disappointed in the lack of willingness on the restaurant's part to accommodate us - they were out of salmon so we asked to substitute a California roll instead of the other choices they had for their Bento Boxes; they would not substitute. The California roll had to be less expensive then the salmon that they could not offer because they ran out. We ordered the fried squid for an appetizer; it was tough. My husband lived in Japan for a time and felt that it was some of the worst Japanese food ever. Back to the drawing board to discover a good Japanese restaurant in Nashville. Cons: parking more

Too expensive, salty and fatty 3/21/2008

This place is way too expensive! I no loger get the bento boxes, they are too fatty and too salty. The sushi is good, but very expensive, and they don't use cucumbers! Since it's the only sushi place in the Vandy area, I'll go there if I am with someone, otherwise I'll get sushi at the Vandy hospital cafeteris. Pros: Good sushi Cons: Too expensive, Bento boxes too salty and meat is fatty more

Decent Sushi - but a bad r..... problem! 11/19/2007

I've had great sushi and this was okay. You get what you pay for. I would of given it a 3 or 4 stars, the food wasn't bad and the service was nice. The major problem we had was during our dinner there, my wife and I saw not one, but three r.....s. I have been in the restaurant industry for many years and if you fumigate properly and monthly, it's extremly rare to have r.....s in a restaurant, even if the building is old and is not a free standing building. When the r.....s are out crawling on the wall and that the waitress can easily go up to it and removed it without running off - it's usually a sign that the r.....s are not afraid of people, That's scary! That means it's a bad r.... problem with a lack of fumigating. She and I will never eat there again. The waitress removed it and acted like it was normal with no apology - nothing. Eat somewhere else. Unless they start fumigating often and get a good rating from the city. I may consider it. more

Consistent 10/27/2007

Ken's is just the place if you consistently want good sushi at a reasonable price. There are only a handful of good sushi restaurants here and for the $$, Ken's is definitely at the top of the list. Don't go here if you're looking for a nice, romantic, dinner, but if you want great sushi in a casual atmosphere, Ken's is the place. Pros: Sushi, price, service Cons: Ambience more

Great sushi and nice workers 7/5/2007

I've tried various sushi bars here in Nashville over the years and I consistently go back to Ken's. Sure, it doesn't provide a fancy ambience like Rusan's, but I'd rather have good sushi than fancy decor. The waitstaff there are really nice and are good about paying attention to when you need drink refills and the sushi chefs are cool guys to talk to while you're sitting at the bar. The rolls are always nice, tight and full and the rice is good and sticky. My husband, friends and I have decided that Ken's is just the place to go when we're in a sushi mood. Pros: Good sushi, nice menu items for vegetarians, excellent service Cons: It's starting to get a little pricey. more

Perfect for Anynight 1/30/2007

While it may not be on the level of Ru Sans, not everyone can afford to pay $50 a night for Sushi. This is one of my favorite places in Nashville to eat. Great food, fresh sushi and great prices! My favorite non-sushi dish here is Mongolian Pork. The sauce is different and spicy too!! Order the Ginger Tomato dressing with your salad. My girlfriend orders extra so she can dip her sushi in it, its so good. Pros: best prices in town, original flavors, fresh fish Cons: decor could use some updating more

Worth Your Dollar 2/4/2006

If your looking for excellent Japanese food at a price that is fare you've come to the right restaurant. You have the choice of seating at the Sushi bar (which is more of a average counter) booth or table. During lunch-time the entire restaurant is non-smoking. The service for your beverage is slow but seatign is prompt. Groups of 6 or higher an 18% grat. is automatically included. Pros: Sushi, Non-smoking, Good price Cons: Smoking (dinner time), Slow service more

Was good, not so much anymore. 1/9/2006

To crowded, the last time I was there was in the summer. The air conditioning was out, they had the door open. To loud & crowded. Sushi made too rushed. Wait to long. Pros: Ken is very cool, hot waitresses Cons: parking is dodgy, too crowded & loud more

The aesthetic is not Japanese, but it shows the priority is the food, not the feel. Inside, you'll find Vandy profs at the popular sushi bar and in the nonsmoking room up front....
