Editorial review from Citysearch 8/10/2012

Ah he's great. He really cares about the animals which is the most important thing. He's always looked after my two kitties brilliantly, and he doesn't do lots of tests that are not needed. HIs assistants are also really nice an take great care with the animals. The waiting room is often full but thats because he's very popular - as as for his wife she has always been very pleasant to me, but you know - who cares! keep in mind that people who are passionate about animals are often not the best with people! And they don't have to be - the important thing is that they care about your animal and they do a really good job there. more

Down to earth, wonderful, caring veterinary hospital! 3/20/2012

I've been to Kenneth Jones a few times, and I felt as if they were okay, prices are reasonable, no apt needed, and if you come in certain times of the day, you come in and out easily. I've been here before, waiting for a long time, but the visit was a good. THE most important experience I faced this past visit was an emergency, I needed care right away, on a Holiday, I was so lucky Kenneth was there. He wasn't planning on being there much longer, he was going to refer me to another hospital, but instead, he went into an emergency c-section for my tea cup 2.5 pound chihuahua, which I had no idea she was pregnant. A tiny puppy come out of her, healthy and adorable. They gave me the best deal on the cost, it was an expense I was not expecting, and they did a wonderful job. My tea cup chihuahua, and her newborn teacup papillon came out healthy, and good spirited. I felt as if it was a miracle considering my teacup chihuahua had contractions for 12 hours, and was not looking good at all. And it was the holiday, everyone was closed, except for Kenneth Jones. This hospital is not about making money, its not about pampering your pet, its about taking care of whats needed, by caring for your pet. more

Helps with Feral cats 7/28/2011

Ok, I do agree with the other reviews that the wife is a bitch and not the most friendly enviroment, Dr. Jones has been kind enough to help with the cat over population by spaying /neutering feral cats and a reduced fee of $65.00 along with shots. Although, he is not my regular vet, whom wanted to charge me over $400 per cat. He provides a great service for these poor animals. No appointment is needed and keeps them over night for their safety, because off this I can not say enough about him or his staff (except for the rude women up front) There are a few no cost facility's but too far to drive back and forth same day. I am sure the fees charged don't cover his costs. So, thank you Dr. Jones for taking on a burden most vets wont. more

AVOID THIS VET!!!!!! 4/11/2011

if i could i would rate this vet zero stars! i brought my german shepard in for an emergency visit from a dog fight. she had an ear that was bit and the edge of it was bleeding. ken gave the dog a seditive shot right away and said i needed to leave the dog so he could stitch her ear up. i asked him my choices and he rudely said; "" what choices!? i either stitch it up or you leave it and it festers, falls off, gets infected and your dog will probably die."" me and my friend were thrown off and were going to leave the place but my dog was quite sedated and too hard to move... wish i had just lifted the dog out to find a more human veterinarian! at least one with better bedside manners and social skills. i said ""okay what will this cost me?"" i do not deal with costs go talk to my wife in the entrance. she punched the calculator for a few minutes and said 795$ . i asked her can she itemize what i am paying for? she huffed and mumbled as she again punched the calculator. i asked if i could make payments as i could not afford that. she said ask ken... back i go into the exam room and ken says i do not deal with money talk to my wife... i said did and she sent me here... he says... ""can you hurry and make a decision your dog is making a bloody mess of my floor!"" after trying to talk to his wife... (would have been easier to get a response out of talking to the wall....) i remember i have emergency cash at home. (15 minutes away) can you start the work and i will go get my cash... ""all work must be paid in full before any procedures can begin"" well long story short i got me money and the dog got it's stitches... he said they would dissolve in a week or two. no deal... i called but was told he was out of town. brought the dog in to remove stitches that took 2 hrs to remove! the assistants doing the work kept saying ""i don't understand why he did not use stitches that would dissolve... there are so many tiny stitches this should never have happened. i hate to say... but that event was the start of my dogs hind legs hip problems... went downhill from there. i suspect she was in a bad position or was pushed down and forced to sit. less than a year later she lost the use of her back legs and i bought a great cart that allowed her to walk for 3 more happy years. it has taken me a long time to forgive myself for not just taken her out of there when i knew i should have... feel like i betrayed my best friend and did not watch out for her. so, i write this to hopefully to save other pet owners and animals from bad and rude service... yes! i understand... WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS! more

Worst experience ever! 8/15/2009

The worst vet experience ever! We made a neuter appointment and things were going well. During our first time visit, the office waiting room was packed due to a short staff. The office manager was extremely rude to everyone on the phone and in the waiting room. You will have no privacy as she loudly asks financial, medical, and personal information. There are written laws about medical privacy, and this lady has no boundaries. Also, one client brought in 2 cats and they only returned 1 cat. It took over 40 minutes for them to find her other cat. Never go to this place! If you want to get antagonized by the most unhappy person in LA, have fun. Maybe the doctors are nice, but I could not stay and be treated horribly by the front desk lady. Therefore, I will take my puppy elsewhere. Avoid at all costs! No parking, packed waiting room, and poor treatment. Cons: rude, no parking, long wait, and did I say rude? more

Response 2 KnollRick (below) 8/9/2009

To KnollRick:\r \r When you take your sick and dying child to the hospital do you say ""should we pull the plug""? and do they say sure - or do they say 'let's do tests first?' If they do tests - do they guarantee your child will live? Dr. Jones is a patient advocate. You asked him a question and he responded with the best ethical professional response possible. \r \r Haven't you ever gone to a mechanic for your car - been charged thousands of dollars - only to find the problem wasn't fixed at all? THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES BUB - ESPCIALLY WORKING IN LIFE AND DEATH SITUATIONS! \r \r God forbid you have children that need your support someday!\r \r Dr. Jones is on the side of the patient - he has never gouged anyone for anything - but plenty of 'caring' pet owners have left without paying bills, failed to pick up their sick and dying loving pets because they didn't want to pay the bill. He is in a practice that leaves one heartbroken every day by the unfeeling, inhumane, illogical actions of callous humans like YOU! Pros: Dr. Jones Best Animal Advocate more

Nice vet but they overcharge and wife is mean 5/19/2009

I used to go to Dr. Jones until my last two bad visits. I brought a dying cat to Dr. Jones. I already knew she was dying. He insisted on many expensive tests which showed...she was dying. I asked if I should euthanize her. He said ""no, she just needs more tests."" She had more tests and died. I ended up paying $1,500 in two hours for a dead cat. As soon as she died and there were no more tests to bill me for, they totally ignored me, not even eye contact. They hand you the big bill while you are crying so you can't even read it through the tears and just hand them a card. I thought it would be the same as the estimate. No,three times higher! Suzann his wife who wears big bows in her hair is very rude, condescending and mean to people. She attacks everyone unless you kiss her behind. Even then she will still double or triple your bill when she is on duty. I think they must have financial problems. They are using extreme guilt to guilt people into more tests and unnecessary treatments. They make you feel really bad if you don't spend all the money you have and max at your credit cards on dying animals. Pros: Dr. Jones is good and nice Cons: They overcharge and are rude to you more

Loving Service to animals and people. 1/26/2009

Ken Jones animal clinic is a pet hospital that puts the animals first, but remembers and instills kindness and caring to the owners of the animals as well.\r Truly, Dr. Ken Jones, Dr. Dell, and Dr. Berrell, Dr. Leslie, every technician and office assistant has held a place of loving, caring, knowledge and service for the 10 years I've been going. They care about the total well being all involved and they demonstrate that in all ways every time I go. The office is clean and it is by far the nicest animal hospital I've ever worked with. Just wanted to express all the good about the clinic, because that is all my experience with them has ever been. A BIG THANKS Ken Jones for staying in loving service to people and animals year after year after year. - Marilyn Hill Pros: Expertise, Kindness, High Level Service, Reasonable Rates, Clean more

PET Owners BEWARE!!! THINK TWICE ABOUT THIS PLACE!!!‎ 12/19/2008

I read all the reviews before going to this clinic and most of them were good, but I would have to say that the bad reviews were much more like the reality than the good reviews. First, I waited for an hour and a half and I was the only one in the waiting room! Second, The staff is not helpful and the facility is very unclean! Even though their prices are a bit lower than others in the area, this Vet is not worth risking your pets health. Above that the staff (mainly the older red head woman) are rude and do not care about you or your pet. They are more interested in getting your money!!! I will never take my pet here again! BEWARE!!! Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE more

STAY AWAY, The lady a the front desk is SCARY!!!!!!!! 6/14/2008

My vet had just closed at 5pm, I was on my way out of town with my dog and I needed to buy 'revolution' for him before I left (he's been on revolution since he was a pup) and we were going camping so I didn't want to take any chances. So I decided to try this little shack that I always passed by and dismissed as dirty and old (kenneth Jones vet). I get there, there is no easy place to park, I walk in, ask the large scary lady at the front desk if I'm parked legally, she rolls her eyes and says that if I'm in the dentist spot I will be towed (that's info that I already knew from reading the signs, she clearly didn't care enough to explain which ones where to dentists spots). As she's rolling her eyes, I couldn't help but notice the urine smell and the dingy dirty county grandma decor. I then proceeded to explain my situation to her, This time she actually YELLED at me. ""WE DON'T SELL REVOLUTION, YOU'LL KLL YOUR DOG WITH THAT!!!!"" she was upset that I was not a regular client of theirs, and in a huff sold me an older and far less effective product. I was glad to be out of there, and felt really bad for the people who actually use this place. It is possible that kenneth Jones might be a good vet, but clearly they lack the latest research, and let's face it, this is santa monica and with all the great choices and modern/holistic Vet care that you can get just down the street, why would anyone bother with this awefull place. Pros: they were open Cons: Terrible service, dirty, old, outdated medical practices more

STAY AWAY!!! 4/5/2008

\r \r I can only assume the people who wrote even remotely good reviews for this place are people who actually work there and are trying to mask the truth...\r \r This was THE WORST vet experience I've ever had. I didn't want to judge it from it's first impression, which was unsanitary and a bit sketchy, but I really have to say -- it was all of that. The place smelled awful, we were skipped over and waited an hour just to see a clinician. All of this for a pushed, looong laundry list of tests and treatments they wanted to give my cat. The doctor was clearly trying to pull a fast one on me, the receptionist just fear mongered and made all the pet owners feel like their pet's issue was way worse than it actually was and they wanted to keep him overnight to pump him full of meds without even knowing what was wrong with him in the first place. I do not recommend this place to anyone for any reason.\r \r I ended up taking my cat with me before they could do anything to him and just paid for the exam to avoid what it would have cost me for ALL of the other senseless tests and an unnecessary overnight visit. It would have cost me NEARLY $900!\r \r Save your time (and money) and go elsewhere...\r \r OH... and if you can believe it, we were verbally hassled by a mean old lady on the way out.\r Pros: Sorry to say -- none. Cons: Bamboozle people to pay for unecessary tests, Smells, Dirty, Unsanitary, Sketchy more

very caring 11/22/2007

I am so thankful that this vet's office exists. I have taken stray kittens there to be fixed and vaccinated when no other place would take them without an appointment. They also treated the mother cat who was extremely difficult to handle. She is now tame and a wonderful pet. I go there for my cat's annual exam even though it is far from my house. I highly reccomend this vet's office because they are very caring and have reasonable prices. You may have to wait a while when you go there but at least you can come without an appointment. Pros: caring, reasonable prices Cons: sometimes have to wait a while more

Bad Service 4/5/2007

I brought my new puppy here for a check up and was told she was fine. A couple days later, she was throwing up and it turned out she had parvo. The doctor told us nothing about the treatment except that they needed to keep her for about 3 days and that we should call later in the evening to check on her. She did not counsel us regarding anything, especially the cost. In fact, she said nothing about the cost. Instead, she took the dog to the back and told us to pay at the front desk. It was $1200 and could have been more if my dog had ended up staying longer than the estimated 3 days). Obviously, we were willing to pay and did pay, but I can't believe that the vet would hand me a bill like that without even discussing it. My dog did survive, so they did something right. Howevever, overall I was really bothered by my experiences there. Needless to say, I found a new vet! Oh yeah, I was even charged another exam fee for the parvo diagnosis even though I had already paid an exam fee 2 days earlier when I was told my dog was healthy. more
