Driving up Revere Beach Blvd and saw Kelly's, not a long line, thought i had heard of the place somewhere in my travels. Stashed my yankees hat under the car seat and headed in.

Fried clams to die for 7/17/2010

Great venue for fried clams and oinion rings. I was in California for 5 years and while on the West Coast would dream of Kelly's Fried Clams. On brief trips back, would head there for an inexpensive evening and with a view of the Atlantic Pros: fast service, quality food, good prices Cons: Fighting with very agressive Seagulls while eating! more

Grease Grease and more Grease 8/3/2008

We hadn't been to Kellys on the beach for many years. I did remember the clams as being a little greasy, but when we went today, i didnt believe it. they were heavy, dry and rubbery. the onion rings were tasteless and felt like biting into a pile of dirt. the staff was friendly enough, and the location is great, but I wont go again. more

Still a classic after all these years -- and best value (and chicken fingers) anywhere 12/9/2007

Wow. I've been going to Kelly's since I was a kid -- and I'm 50 now. Over all those years, Kelly's is still my family's favorite place to go for fast food prepared to order from good-quality ingredients. Pros: Parking is easy (except in high summer); food emerges piping hot Cons: Long wait; branches are inconsistent; stick with Kelly's on Revere Beach for best food more

The fries smell good 5/9/2007

The fries look and smell good, but after watching 3 - 200 pound women scarf them down during at lunchtime at work, I can definitely say I will stick to my low calorie salads. :) more

Cheap???? Are you on medication? 12/13/2006

Are you nuts? Kelly's is so overpriced it's unreal... Pros: Easy to get some seafood Cons: Expensive, food is not like it used to be. more

good food not cheap 10/4/2006

I was brought up in Revere, and ate at Kelly's at least twice a week. The food is still very good, great cheeseburgers, the dog's are the best with their warm buttery toasted roll, but the roast beef is unpredictable. They give you a big sandwich but it's not alway's cooked the way I like it (rare to medium rare) If you like your beef well done and dry you'll like this sandwich, but if you like it rare it's a good idea to ask them before you order. The saugus location in my opinion is the best one. The service is faster, and they usually get the order right every time. The prices have definitely sky rocketed over the years, but for the quality of food you get its well worth the extra money. Pros: Fresh food, great burgers and dog's Cons: Roast beef sandwiches sometimes dry and overcooked. more

Great Boston Institution 10/2/2006

A quintessential Boston dining experience is to get a roast beef sandwich with all the trimmings, a chowder and some fries and head across the street and dine out on the outdoor dining patio next to the beach. And to curious visitors to Boston, this is not your typical fast food ""roast beef"". This is fresh from the oven, just sliced and juicy meat. Forget your diet and get it with gravy for the full experience. Pros: Real Roast Beef; Clam Chowder; Great Beach Location more

the fries are tastless 4/18/2006

the food really isn't what it's cracked up to be more

cheap? 5/9/2005

I think the food there is good however i'm not sure how anyone could find it inexpensive! The portions are good but feeding 2 adults and one 2yr old cost me 35.00 ! that is not cheap i feel they are very expensive. more

Disappointed In Price Increase 6/14/2004

But the food is still pretty good. Growing up in New England, every Friday Night was Kelly's night. It was just a no-brainer. I always liked the chicken fingers and fries, those are still really good. The roast beef, I guess is still good, although, I'm not a huge r.b. fan to begin with; the portions are still large, and the meat is good quality beef. Love the sauce! Is that good with fries too? LOL.. Something about walking along the Revere beach on a hot summer night, holding comfort food.... mmmmmm it's a beautiful thing. Do I recommend it? Of course. Pros: seagulls, parking, congestion Cons: , new england, open late more

Kelly's 6/2/2004

Not the best Roast Beef around, despite the name. The prices are as high or higher than most sit-down restaurants, how did it end up in cheap eats? The fried seafood is expensive, but fresh and very good. Everything else is average at best. There are always a million people working and service is still slow. Still, I have been stopping by Kelly's for 20 years. I prefer RB sandwiches from Bill & Bob's. And touristy or not, the best fried clams anywhere are from The Clam Box in Ipswich! Pros: Fried Seafood, Location, Tourist Attraction Cons: , Average food more

Average at best... 5/25/2004

I dont understand the infatuation with Kelly's - I guess anything tastes good at 2am when you're drunk, but try eating there any other time. Expensive as most sit down restaurants and the chowda is thin and watery. The hot dogs and onion rings are excellent, but the roast beef is average. Mikes in Saugus kicks butt for RB, or the best is Harrisons in North Andover on Rt 125. Worth the drive! Pros: hot dogs, onion rings Cons: , chowda, roast beef more

Not 1975 4/8/2004

I grew up in Winthrop and was raised on Kelly's. I now live in DC and last summer went to Kelly's for the first time in 10 years. The fried clams and clam chowder are still the best--anywhere!!! The roast beef isn't what it used to be. It used to be GREAT--now it is still good, but not great. As for value, I could not believe how expensive it got--I don't put Kelly's in the ""cheap eats"" category. A family of four cost me almost $60. BTW--the lines at 2 a.m. in January were more impressive than the lines at 2 a.m. in July Pros: Clams, Clam Chowder, Atmosphere more

Expensive Roast Beef 4/8/2004

Kelly's Roast Beef is somewhat of a legend in and around Boston. Despite the nostalgic love for this restaurant that many Bostonians have, the roast beef is good but over priced. In fact the entire menu is anything but a bargain. My wife and I recently dined there and ordered roast beef sandwiches, fries and drinks and the total was ~$30. The atmosphere is paltry -- dirty floors and tables and a McDonald's like feel, although the food is not ""fast"" to arrive. I scratch my head everytime I see a full parking lot. With so many alternatives, especially north of Boston, I don't know why people keep returning to Kelly's. Pros: ample parking Cons: , atmosphere more

Those that know...know. 1/13/2004

I grew up in East Boston and some of the fondest memories of growing up involve Revere Beach and of course, Kelly's. For as long as I can remember, it has been the same. Same broken clock, showing the wrong time...but the right temperature. Same seaguls looking for scraps like vultures. And the same top notch food. Roast Beef sandwiches are delicious and piled HIGH. Chowder is top notch, seafood is fresh and the fries and rings are delicious. It is a true GEM of a restaurant and a real slice of North Shore history. If you didnt grow up going to Kelly's, you just wouldnt understand. Pros: Portions, Variety, Fast Service Cons: Like N Pole in winter, long wait late-night more
