Excellent Food in Oak Cliff & Gracious Staff! 11/13/2008

I've been in to Kavala twice now in the last month - I LOVE this cute place in Oak Cliff! They have different specials every day which the servers explain in detail - I've chosen a beef medallions with noodles special one day & then ordered an incredible hamburger the next. I need to try their Gyros and their hand made pizza which I hear they're all incredible next for sure. The servers and staff are very friendly - I'm a regular now because of the amazing menu that's fresh different every day & everyone there that makes you feel very welcome! Even if you don't live in Oak Cliff / S. Dallas, you really must try Kavala Grill soon! Pros: Friendly Staff, Amazing Menu, Nice Outdoor Area & Free Parking in Lot Cons: None! more

A REALLY BAD NIGHT AT KAVALAS 6/29/2008

Generally, I love Kavala and will recommend it to everyone. However, I went there for dinner on 6-28-08. I had gone to dinner at Kavala on 6-25-08 and lunch on 6-27-08. Unfortunately, Kavala's was booked on 6-28-08 for a private party. Something that we were not told. We had been seated (at a two top in the middle of Kavalas ... those who have been know that there is a narrow aisle that run between the two tops and the tables on either side), ordered or drinks and placed our order when the place filled with with the private party. Had we known that there was a private party, we would have opted to have dinner somewhere else. Pros: GENERALLY GREAT Cons: WHEN THEY ARE BAD, THEY ARE BAD. more

Delicious entrees, great service! 4/9/2008

Went to Kavala for the first time the other day. The service was very good and the food was excellent. The hummus was very good (though I must say it wasn't the best I've had) and came with plenty of warm pita. The lamb and chicken souvlaki were both beautifully served and tasted delicious! We will definitely come again. more

You can't go wrong 3/6/2008

At first some might be a little off put by the exterior reminiscent of a Dairy Queen, but that's because it is. Once you step inside though, you would never guess that Kelly Hightower's new place used to be a joint that slung burgers and blizzards. I've gone a few times in the year they've been open, and after each visit I have only one question in my head: why did it take me so long to return? If you sit down and peruse the menu without a delictable bowl of hummus in front of you, then you are depriving yourself of an experience to remember. Perhaps the only con is that the menu is changed daily based on what is fresh, so if you come in with expectations to sample one of the other 3-4 dishes that looked fantastic on your previous visit you might find your top choice is not available. Don't worry though, their are plenty of fantastic dishes that Kelly prepares that are mainstays such as the Greek Island Stew (so good you wish you could order another until you realize how filling it is) that will keep your spirits high. Pros: Too many to list, just go! more

Not your average neighborhood restaurant! 10/11/2007

Nestled in the beautiful Oak Cliff area this is a charming family owned restaurant. The chef and his wife, who manages the restaurant, put their hearts into every detail on the menu. My favorites include the hummus and pita bread. The best I have ever eaten! The pasta with homemade Italian sausage is addictive and the black cod, when on the menu, will melt your heart. The ultimate in neighborhood eateries. They will be open New Years Eve so make your reservations early and be prepared to enjoy yourself, meet new friends and have some really great wine. Mediterranian food as its best. Pros: 2 thumbs way way up! Superb food and great pricing Cons: Not open on Sundays more

One more fabulous restaurant in Oak Cliff 7/28/2007

Absolutely fabulous food and intimate friendly croud that Oak Cliff is famous for. The salmon is to die for, and every other dish I've tried is just as good. If you want wine or drinks with dinner, bring your own. Service is outstanding, waitstaff is young, pretty, friendly and attentive. A must try!! Pros: food, service, atmosphere Cons: no liquor, but bring your own, everyone does. more

Excellent Mediterranean Cuisine!! 6/8/2007

It is now evident that North Oak Cliff has some of the best restaurants in DFW. I have dined at many Greek restaurants in the USA and abroad, Kavala is as good or better than any I've tried. I had the Salmon, it was seasoned and grilled to perfection. I understand the chef is the owner, the food and service reflects the care and attention paid to detail in Kavala. Tastefully cool & comfortable ambiance but not pretentious or overdone for the neighborhood. Service was helpful, friendly and efficient. Prices are moderate and the quality of food is very fresh. I was checking out what other diners were ordering for future reference, the pizza looked scrumptious. I'll definitely go again and also refer my friends and associates. Great food, great value! Pros: Great food, great value! Cons: One has to BYOB but only a minor inconvenience. more

Super fresh ingredients, great mix of flavors. Best wood oven pizza in the OC. 4/18/2007

Finally made it out to Kavala. It was a Saturday night, and the place was full. We were lucky enough to barely beat the hour long wait and instead had our table in about 15 minutes. I would recommend reservations. Pros: Food, Pizza, Parking, Service Cons: Reservations recommended, small space fills up fast. more

Mediterranean done right. The pizza is top notch too. 4/5/2007

Kavala has a great offering. Every dish I've had looks and tastes like it should be at least twice the price. The food is wonderfully prepared and leaves me craving it again minutes after I leave. The salads are fresh and plentiful. The pizza is definitely in my top 5 in the entire state. The Sunday buffet has plenty of options including roasted leg of lamb which will melt in your mouth. Pros: Delicious food, best pizza, friendly staff Cons: You'll crave it again minutes after you leave more
