Dave says their biscuits are awesome. I was sitting at a single table and could see a cook kneading dough for a fresh batch of biscuits. It can't get any better than that. I like their biscuits and gravy but always get the gravy on the side so I can have a biscuit with jelly and my coffee. Now if that isn't enough just try a piece of the Banana Cream Pie. It's to LIVE for! Real honest to goodness meringue NOT cool whip. I'd love to live closer but would gain much weight. Kate, as is her Kitchen, is a dream boat. more

Great Breakfasts and Pies 12/20/2006

This is a great place to eat breakfast, all of the bakery items and pies are homemade and taste like it. Be prepared to wait though, there almost always is a line. Pros: Breakfast, Bakery items Cons: Crowded, Cramped seating areas more

Super Place for GREAT FOOD!!!! 3/7/2006

Well, the reason we like this restaraunt is that they are very patriotic family. Their son is also in the airforce and his pictures are up next to the register. But for more important matters, the food is excellent, there isn't much that hasn't already been said, great prices, lots of food, homemade, fresh baked goods, family run. All those add up to a great meal to me. There is also a long history to this restaraunt and it has been in the same family for over 25 yrs. Definitely a great place to stop on your way through from or to Detroit. more

The best hometown country cookin 1/12/2003

Kates Kitchen should be the best out of all the restaurants. The food is the best country cookin from scratch,and the portions are generous. The only thing that could make it better would be if the restaurant was bigger because their are always lines outside the door,and if it was also open for dinner. It is a cute restaurant in the country across from the water in Flatrock and I wouldnt change its location. It suits the town. Pros: great food, great quality, hometown Cons: bad parking, small, not open long enough more

Great breakfasts, jsut like down home kind of cooking. The pies, breads and rolls for sale are awsome, fresh baked daily. Very small place so go early to get a good spot in line if the weather is bad take your umbrella or wear warm clothes because the wait is outside!!! Worth the wait though!!!!!! Pros: great food, good parking Cons: wait line outside, small place more

Like Grandma's Place 11/23/2002

Kate's kitchen is a wonderful small place full of wonderful smells and food. Prices are good and portions more than ample. Have to get there before 9am to be seated promptly but the longest I have had to wait was 30 minutes. You are served homebaked goods and you can buy them to take home. People complain that they need a bigger place but I think it would take away from the ambience. Pros: good food, good value, good atmosphere Cons: small parking lot, crowded @ 9am more

Best breakfast ever! 10/18/2002

I went to kate's kitchen for breakfast about four years ago now, and I had the best ever biscuts and gravy. Non since has compared to how good that food was. When we walked up I wondered why there was such a wait for such a little reasturant, now I know. more

Homey and Fresh! 10/4/2002

Their fresh baked pies & breads are wonderful! The portions are very generous, but my absolute favorite is their blueberry pancakes. A half order is plenty for an average appetite, and they are filled with fresh blueberries! Pros: generous portions, fast service, home-made food Cons: large breakfast crowd, limited seating more

Biscuits that taste like baking soda 8/13/2002

It's nice to go to Kate's early on Sunday mornings in the Summer, you have to wait in a long line most the time, so in the Winter it's cold. When you get in the door you can sit as soon as a table opens. There is no smoking inside & that is GREAT!They have great cinnamon french toast, made with homemade bread. Their pies sell quickly, as most of the baked goods. Their hours are 6am-2pm. I do not like the biscuits they taste like baking soda.I also do not like the hashbrowns, they taste like they are boiled before fried.(yuck)I wish they would change those two items. I usually do not eat Lemon Meringue pie, but their's is very good. Pros: No Smoking, Homemade Baked Goods, Friendly Staff Cons: Bad Tasting Biscuits, Long Wait, Limited Seating more

This restaurant is DIVINE! 7/30/2002

The atmosphere is homey, the waitresses are harried, and the food is to die for! It is a good home cooking kind of place, but whatever you do, do not leave with out a pie. The breakfasts are the best and if you want to get in and out quick, arrive before 8:30 am, after that be prepared to wait in line for at least 30 minutes. There is limited seating, but for breakfast the wait is worth it! more
