O'Sooo Good! 7/12/2011

I had a craving for some good Indian food and decided to check out Karma. I definitely made the right choice! I decided to try the butter chicken, saag paneer and garlic naan. The butter chicken taste O' So good, that I had to lick my fingers. All the dishes were spiced just right, and the Naan was warm and soft. The restaurant staff was quiet friendly and hostess was very inviting when I first walked in. The waiter was very attentive to my needs. The next time I'm down there I look forward to trying the tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala. more

Had better Indian curry in Mexico than what Karma offered,,,, 10/25/2007

Give me a break guys. I read all reviews and had to get to Karma, and what a disappointment . I have had better curries made by Chinese chefs than what Karma had to offer. The Kormas was if they mixed cream and curry powder microwaved it and splat it into a dish. Tikka Masala was a colored dish with a hint of creamy yoghurty sauce that had probably gone awry. Only plus was the dessert, but I am bias towards Gulab Jamun. being Indian i will go again to Karma but only if it was the last place for an Indian looking meal. Calling this a Northern Indian cuisine restaurant is an injustice to us Punjabis.........The Naan was good though. There were 4 of us 2 indians and 2 caucasians who never had Indian cuisine, and they loved it,,,,,go figure. AND IF NO ONE HAS NOTICED THE GOOD REVIEWS ONLY TALK ABOUT GOOD FOOD AND SERVICE WITHOUT MENTIONING WHAT FOOD AS IF IT WAS WRITTEN BY KARMA MARKETEERS THEMSELVES!!! Pros: good service, wait staff Cons: not an Indian meal!!!!! more

Not consistent 7/17/2007

Was formerly a more upscale Indian/Pakistani restaurant. Now under new owners. I've been there twice recently and would say that the food is inconsistent. On my last trip, the food was lukewarm and some of the dishes were empty and not being refilled. Also, the prices is a little steep considering the lack of meat on the menu and the small number of dishes. Moreover, the food was very bland and too watered down for the average person. All in all, I think that I will look elsewhere for Indian/Pakistani food in Philly. Lunch buffet: 8.99 Pros: Butter-chicken, Gulab Jamin Cons: Kheer (tasted like it came from a Shan mix box), flavorless, overpriced more

exellent food, but very very very spicy. 5/9/2007

My husband and I went there for dinner, and I really liked their deco. The food was great. You could tell the ingredients were very fresh. meat was so juicy and tender. One warning though... the curry was soooooooooo hoooooooooot..! I can eat just about any spicy food, but their "medium" wasn't not your typical "medium" so be careful. I agree with the previous reviewer.. their customer service wasn't their strength. They weren't mean or anything, but weren't the most friendly. But I would go again.. just because the food was so great. Pros: food, ambience Cons: service more

Great Food, So-So Customer Service 1/5/2007

My husband and I were in Philadelphia for a few days, and we love Indian food. We made reservations at Karma for our last night. While we were waiting for our table, a man came in to ask how long the wait would be. The host was very dismissive of this patron and waved him out the door. It made my husband and I, as well as the other couple waiting, very uncomfortable. I really enjoyed the food, drinks, and atmosphere. We had a few communication issues with the wait staff, but nothing that could be over come. more

Awesome! 11/24/2006

Great experience! Had a private party planned at the banquet on 2nd level and everything (service, bar, food) all were awesome. Banquet Manager worked with us personally to help pick up the apps and main courses and everything turned out to be really good. Will certainly go back! more

Best Indian restaurant I've tried 8/7/2006

Went with my husband on Sunday night. The service was great, helpful, and friendly. The decor and atmosphere are beautiful- nice artwork on the walls, classy ambience. The food was excellent and the best we've had yet in Philadelphia. We've already recommended Karma to several people and will definitely be back. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere Cons: none more

A Taste Of India 3/29/2006

I was never one for Indian food. My friends took me on a tour of Philly and we ended up in Karma. I tried it, and I must say the food there is much better than your average Indian Restaurant. I enjoyed it so much it made me want to move to India just so i can have it every day. This place stands out from the rest. Better than all the Indian places I tried in NY. I'll be back Pros: Exceptional Food, Friendly Service, Drinks more

Incredible experience 3/28/2006

The food was excellent. The ambience and service was absolutely excellent. I couldn't ask for anything more. Everyone enjoyed their food and we were always greeted with a smile. Pros: Service, Food, Value more

Always the best 3/28/2006

I have been going to Karma for the past 2 years, I just can't get enough of it. The more Inidan resturants I eat at the more I appreciate the food and service at Karma. No matter what I have tried from the menu, the food has always been excellent. If you find yourself in the Philly area, don't forget to eat at Karma, you won't be disappointed. Pros: Service, Value, Setting more

A truely great restaurant. Awesome and very tasteful food. You must try the food here, fantastic and friendly service. I am very skeptical of new places, but they are a great place. Try it out. more

Ah, Chicken Saag! 3/14/2006

Yummy! 2/13/2006

The first time a friend took me here for lunch, I was dismayed that the place only had a buffet. I tend to think that buffets consist of inferior food, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one's fine quality. In December I returned with some more of my friends, and they loved it too. The service was superb. Whenever we wanted anything (even items that weren't available in the buffet) the waiters promptly brought it to us. They really were super-nice :o) Karma has the best Indian food in the city. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience more

karma--house of excellent taste and service 1/10/2006

lest we forget 12/10/2005

I was on a first date and romance filled the air influenced by candle lighting and soft and live Indian Tabla music. We started with Tandori Ghobhi and Papadems as appetizers with tantalizing and crispy touch. We selected Karma Mix Platter, Ajwani Jhinga, and Butter Chicken from the main course. Our food arrived sizzling in metal skewer on wooden plates. The dishes are designed for sharing and its good thing because novel tastes are converstaion starter. we enjoed our food with Indian beer, Taj Mahal. Food was perfectly cooked and nicely presented. From the deserts menu we selected Ghulab Jamins. In a nut shell I would say the whole concept is phenomenal: the design of the main hall, seating arrangement , lovely oil paintings, the music, , the people and of course the food. It was a wonderful dining experience with hospitality from the East. Cons: extend timing 11 Pm more

stay away 11/18/2005

i dined at karma last night. after searching for a decent indian restaurant in philly, i thought this would be it. i was wrong. the food was decent, however, the service is truly horrendous. the bartender made our cosmos with the wrong liquor, and when asked if he could fix it, he accosted us and said he could only add more juice. it was no suprise that they would NOT take them away and remove this charge. we asked for our left-overs to be boxed; instead we were given plastic containers and a brown bag and told to do this ourselves. i expected more from a place that charges so much for food. a real disappointment. even service in india is better, for real. i would avoid this place. Pros: old city Cons: service, service, and service more

Need to work on customer service 10/29/2005

last time we went there (shivnanada- previous owner) best customer service, best food. This time, staff was very rude, mannerless and unprofessional. If u want to be in the bussiness work on customer service. we were there and other couple showed off, we both had no reservation still the other couple was offered to serve first and when we complained, they LIED to us about other couple having reservation ( that couple told us they don't have reservation). I would not recommed this LIER people no matter how nice the food is. more

so incredibly disappointing 6/26/2005

I had heard a lot of good things bout Karma, but was incredibly disappointed after having dinner there. Service was only average at best, and the staff was unfriendly. Food was not good, aside from the samosa. I've been to enough Indian restaurants to say that I've def had better. The only plus I can think of is the ambience which is better than most Indian restaurants in the area. Dont think I will be back anytime and I dont think anybody is missing anything if they havent been here. Pros: ambience Cons: parking, staff more

Best Indian Food in Town 4/4/2005

I have always been disappointed by the lack of Indian food in Philadelphia. The only choice we used to have in Center City was Cafe Spice, but I didn't think Cafe Spice was as good as the restaurants in LA and Chicago. Last week my family went to Karma, and we were pleasantly surprised! The food tasted good, the service was great, and price was even better! (I even recognized the person who took our order was the owner.) The only suggestion I have on the food is that they should braise the lamb a little longer to make it more tender. I will definitely go there from now on for our Indian food craves. Pros: price, food, service Cons: loud dining room more
