Finally, One place to find best Indian food 3/17/2005

Karma is the best.... I have tried many restaurants but if you are looking for an authentic Indian cusine then Karma should be your first choice. It has excellent service and a great staff. It has a diverse Menu which brings most of Indian favorite dishes in one place. You can try appeasing Lamb Chops called as "Gulnar Rack of Lamb" as a starter, "Chicken Tikka Masala" and "Bend it like Karma - a cauliflower and potato in combination with herbs" from the Main Kitchen. I had great experience with my family of two little kids while dining at Karma. Pros: Prompt Service, Delicious Food, Ambience Cons: Parking difficult more

Indian restaurant with a class 3/13/2005

I really enjoyed dining at Karma. Friendly service, unique menu, awesome food would definitely bring me and my family back soon. I have tried several others in the area but nothing beats Karma. Pros: Moderate prices, Impressive menu, Great service more

Anomaly? 1/14/2005

I had a reservation on a Saturday, showed up 5 minutes early, finally got seated 40 minutes later. No apologies were offered until we actually complained. Once we were seated, the food was great and the service was quick. However, by the time we were drinking our coffee, they told us twice that the restaurant was closing (note they seated us 35 minutes late). I would highly recommend take-out only. They need to work on their customer service. Pros: Food Cons: , Service, Service more

Karma must be Indian Food Nirvana 8/22/2004

This is the very first Indian restaurant I have dined at in Philadelphia. Although parking in Old City is difficult, dining at Karma is worth the effort. The service was very welcoming and friendly. The interior decor was trendy but not so much that it is distracting. We ordered Lukhimi Samosa and Naan for starters. The Samosa was scrumptious! Then for the main course we had the Chickan Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo. I haven't had Indian food in years but I felt I was in heaven when I had my first bite of the Tikka Masala. The chicken in our dishes were incredibly moist and flavorful. Our dishes were deliciously spicy and aromatic. The rice was cooked to perfection. We had dessert but didn't care for it much. For dinner in Old City, the dinner bill came to only 40(ish) dollars for two! Pros: FOOD, Inexpensive Cons: , Dessert more

Beautiful ambience and different food 7/13/2004

In most of the indian resturants you get almost same kind of run of the mill menu. In this restaurant I found very unique creations of dishes. Tandoori Cauliflower was out of the world. I was made to understand that the owner of the resaurant is a wharton alumni and is seeking to bring in new ideas into his business. He has bought in very creative and award winning cook to implement those ideas. I happened to go to Karma restaurant in New Jersey and when I saw the menu I knew it was a branch of Philadelphia (which was latter confirmed by the host of our table). This restaurant was one up in ambience compared to the Philadelphia one. They have a dance floor. Well if you are looking to take out your loved one for a fun filled evening this restaurant (either one) should be on your shortlist..... Pros: Phenomenal food, Good ambience, Courteous staff more

An Explosion of Taste 2/25/2004

If you like good food, this place is amazing. If you like Indian food and are in Philly, this is simply a must do. I visit Philly on business 1-2 times a month and love entertaining at the Karma. The rack of lamb is to die for and the vegetarian dishes are simply unbelievable. Take a taxi. Parking is a problem. I believe that they now have valet parking as well. Dont miss it! Pros: Value for Money, Excellent Food Cons: , High End Scotch more

I certainly recommend Karma. 1/2/2004

The food was delicious. The service was excellent. The whole staff was very courteous. I would love to visit again. Pros: Delicious Food, Excellent Service, Courteous Staff more

For that real taste of India, try Karma. 1/2/2004

With a mouth watering aroma, food that melts in your mouth, and a friendly staff, KARMA reminds one of backhome - INDIA. If you're looking for that real taste of INDIA, this is where you'll get it. Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Staff, Great Ambience more

Bend it Like Karma 1/1/2004

Karma does not go the route of the typical Indian restaurant: it is more lounge and bistro, and even when it offers typical Indian favorites, like Aloo Gobi (wittily called Bend it Like Karma), Chana Masala (called Chole Peshawari) and Butter Chicken (called Punjabi by Nature), it does so with a creative and fresh flair that renews ones conviction in the favorites. At the same time, the restaurant has a menu that presents lovely dishes not typically encountered in Indian restaurants, like the fantastic Moong Dal Halwa. Their excellent Masala Chai tea completes the enjoyable experience. When you go, do have a chat with the warm and friendly owner, who is usually around, and happy to provide recommendations. Overall even after 3 visits I recommend it great food, hip ambience and a friendly staff. Pros: Tasty Food, Hip Ambience more

Gr8 Food,Fabulous Decor &Exceptional Svc 12/28/2003

We were quite pleased with Karma's exceptional food and service. The waiting staff is very friendly. But most of all, it was the unique decor and affordable menu that really caught our eye. The chef accomodated our party's different spice-based tastes by providing additional sauces. Oh yeah, make sure to look at the Dessert menu and try 'Karma Flan'. True to the management's proclamation, Karma is an experience not to be missed. Pros: Diverse Menu, Great Location, Friendly Staff/Mgmt Cons: Parking more

Great New Find 12/25/2003

We went to Karma when we saw it listed in the Ritz bill. As soon as we walked in, the rust-red walls, dramatic drapes, tea lights on the tables, and spotless see-through kitchen impressed us. The restaurant has some vivid abstract art by local Philly artists on the walls, enlivening the place and adding a nice bohemian touch. Since it was a Sunday, there was a sumptuous lunch buffet. The chef of Karma, Dominic was most recently head chef of Le Meridien, Delhi. We found this out from the affable and warm owner - a Wharton business school alum. Every dish we had was excellent - from the appetizers (scrumptious pakodas), to the Baingan Bhartha (eggplant simmered with mild spices), the dal and the fragrant basmati rice to the dessert (just perfectly sweetened). Great experience, great value, would definitely go back. Pros: Superb cuisine, Great, hip ambience, Creative Menu Cons: Street parking tough more

Best Indian Food in Philly 12/23/2003

Philly finally has what it has been missing for the last several years - a great Indian resteraunt with excellent food, a great ambience and the best service ever. Karma has an extensive wine list, mouth watering Indian appetizers and some very good entrees. I especially recommend the Lamb Korma and the Butter Chicken. Keep it up! Pros: Great Variety, Friendly Service, Good Ambience more

A charming townhouse in the city's energized Old City neighborhood gives way to a vibrantly-colored restaurant oozing with authentic Indian touches.
