After reading the two negative reviews; I find myself wondering if these people actually went to Karl's or are the local competition trying to knock the place. I would hate people...

Before I get to the food, let's discuss decor. The place needs a major facelift: new carpet, paint, peel off the old wallpaper with the LARGE flowers, enlarge the waiting area, ...

Don't Bother 11/17/2009

My wife and I wanted a nice dinner with out the kids and a friend suggested we try Karl’s at the Riverbend, What a MISTAKE! The wait staff was horrible, the orders were wrong and after 2 1/2 hours we were ready to get out! There was no flare or proper presentation or preparation to any of the food. The Prawn and Steak with Pepper Corn Sauce was flavorless and the Prawn had no flavor at all, and the cedar plank it was served on did not fit the plate it was presented on so every time I cut the steak the plank moved around the plate. My wife ordered the trio Steak/Prawn/Salmon…and again the Streak was very well done not Rare as she had requested, and the Salmon and Prawn simply had no flavor. Simply the most expensive worst meal we’ve ever had. We both wished we had gone with the original plan of grilled fish at Los Cucos, at least it has flavor and is presented on a plate that does not move! Would never recommend it and will never go back! Cons: Bland Food, Poor Presentation, OverPriced, Dated Decor more

Pleasant Surprise 8/23/2009

Because of the negative reviews on this site, I almost made brunch reservations elsewhere. They were wrong. Since it is a buffet, we arrived at the opening time. Our group of 5 was quite happy with the selections, quality, and bottomless mimosas. I found the food above average. There was a duck / green apple salad, a bit rich for my taste, but great pairing; lamb shank roast - very yummy, marinated asparagus that was firm but bland. The definite highlight was the homemade blueberry sauce and Bavarian creme (on top of a waffle w/ fresh strawberries). We had 4 different beverages at our table which were kept ""topped"" throughout our 1.75 hr. enjoyable stay. Pros: Bavarian Creme; Drink Service Cons: decorated for your mother's sewing circle more

Disappointing 5/31/2009

Before I get to the food, let's discuss decor. The place needs a major facelift: new carpet, paint, peel off the old wallpaper with the LARGE flowers, enlarge the waiting area, do some landscaping around the building.\r Now, the food is average at best. For Sunday brunch, they had a buffet, but none of the food was on ice or set so the temperature was properly maintained, the presentation was boring, food spilled on the buffet was not removed, etc., etc. No interesting selection of breads -- I could go on and on. Been there; done that. Good-bye. Pros: Attentive service Cons: Mediocre food more

A bit of a disappointment, but OK. 8/3/2008

Far more expensive than it should have been. Substituted veggies instead of carbs drove up the price of two dinners $25. Portions a little on the small side. Glass of milk wasn't very cold. The Wellington was overcooked, but still very tender and tasty. My wifes fillet was overcooked as well. If the meat was a lesser cut, the mistake would have ruined the dinner. Service staff was very friendly, but they were obviously short handed last night. Nobody checked on us after we were served. Creme brule was very good as well as the brownie deserts. The restaurant itself was very clean and great atmosphere. Much more casual than I expected. \r If I lived in the area, I would eat there on the Tue-Thurs cheap menu regularly however, I will not be making the drive from Tomball to dine there for a special occasion again. Had I not been gouged so bad for the vegetable substitutions, I would have rated one more star. If the service had been better, I would have given that star as well.\r Definately not a bad experiance, just not what I had hoped for, for the price. $110 + tip for two including desert, with no alcohol. Pros: Nice friendly people. Cons: See review. more

Karl's is excellent. 11/18/2007

After reading the two negative reviews; I find myself wondering if these people actually went to Karl's or are the local competition trying to knock the place. I would hate people to read these and not treat themselves to a trip to Karl's.\r \r We eat at Karl's all the time - the place is always packed and the food varied, tasty and excuisite. The service is attentative and excellent. Sunday Brunch is fantastic and the atmosphere is always relaxed and enjoyable. When friends and family come to town we always treat them to a meal here.\r \r I'm afraid there are some people who will never be satisfied no matter where they go. As for us, we will see you at Karl's - it is one of the area's finest restaurants and one that we would recommend to anyone.\r \r Pros: Excellent Food cooked by one of the most experienced Chefs around. Cons: ... more

Went based on reviews and came away with a feeling 3/3/2007

that City Search has let me down again. After placing an order the food took close to an hour to arrive and it was odd because people came after our table and had more people yet the food came to them faster. Others were there before we got there and there food came after ours. Nothing fancy about this place that makes me want to tell others about it or go back myself. There are better places out there. more

Disappointing 2/16/2007

I thought the staff were extremely nice and friendly. I found the food disappointing though and the ambience left a lot to be desired. The waitress brought the salad and appetizer at the same time. The pate appetizer was very good but the salad was drenched in dressing and vinegar was the only flavor in tbhe dressing. My wife and I each had Venison. The cognac dream sauce with her dish was very good as was the side of the spaetzle but the meat itself was tastless, The venison in my Venison Hunter Schnitzel was also tastless. I never did find theRed Winedemi-Clace Sauce the the meat was to be topped with. It was like eating tastless meat in a watery stew.\r \r We sat in what I guess is a sun room. It was a cold night and for both of us had feet and legs that were like blocks of ice by the time we left. Every time the bus boy went by, our chairs dipped up and down from the loose flooring underneath. Also, someone there should tell the bus boy to take it easy on the cologne. Pros: Service, Parking and Staff Cons: Ambience and food more

Unique Continental Cuisine at Great Value 2/9/2006

Karl's On the Riverbend is excellent food at an excellent value. The Swiss and German entrees are unique and are of great taste. Between Tuesday-Thursday they have a neighborhood menu, in which most things are under 10$, you have a selection from many of their dinner entrees accompanied with soup/salad and a side. I recommend the spatzel as a side. The ambience is also unique as it is ver welcoming with a home like atmosphere. A+ to Karl's. more

The Best!! 12/8/2005

I've been going to Karl's for about a year now and it is simply one of the best restaurants around. It is a very romantic but fairly casual atmosphere and the food is excellent. I especially like the rack of lamb and the prime rib. The waitresses have all been with Karl & Susie for years and are very good. It's like a great big family there and I have an enjoyable experience every time I go. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Comfortable atmospher Cons: Need waiting area more

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6/1/2005

I would highly recomend this restraunt for a great romantic dinner. We have also gone to the weekend brunch and enjoyed buffet the bottomless champaign. For our great evenings out we head to Karls. We have never been dissapointed. You will get your moneys woth and then some Pros: ambiance, qaulity, service more

Karl's ""Near"" the Riverbend 8/28/2004

The bar area is dimly-lit, lush and comfy (with delish drinks!) and the non-smoking section has an elegant, sunny patio with walls of windows overlooking the creek. Meat and fish cuts are nicely-sized with an array of yummy side options (low-carb selections available as well). I've been there twice but plan to return and sample some of the other desserts.....the low-carb creme brulee is a new family favorite! Pros: quaint design, elegant decor, attentive staff Cons: , too few sal dressings, a bit pricey more

Don't miss Karl's 8/14/2004

We found Karl's 4 years ago and have been loyal regulars ever since. Karl presides over truly superior continental cusine in the kitchen and Susie keeps the dining room running like a Swiss watch. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service, and a gastronomic delight await you. Once you visit, you will be a regular, too. Enjoy! Pros: Food, Atomsphere, Service more
