Their food is ok to good but price is very high. Well the price might be ok for New Yorker but certainly not for a small town. The thing is there are not many Japanese restaurant ...

Kamakura Japanese Restaurant 4/14/2006

Kamakura Japanese Restaurant is the finest Japanese restaurant in the Champaign-Urbana area. They have a great late night menu with cheap sushi for those of you looking for the freshest sushi in Champaign County. They are very friendly and the sushi chefs are actually Japanese (a rarity today!) so they must know what they are doing. Make sure to also try to pork or chicken cutlets as they are one of my favorites there! more

Great lunch special 3/25/2006

I would think KAMAKURA is the best Japanese restaurant in Champaign. The price of their lunch specials are especially appealing. Their sushi, especially those with fish and seafood, I'd have to say, taste nothing like authentic Japanese sushi. Their terriyaki chicken and tempura (I consider them the safest choices when visiting a Japanese restaurant for the first time) are above average. In a small town like Champaign, Kamakura does its best. more

Amazing Food 3/20/2006

Kamakura in Champaign is true authentic Japanese food halfway across the world from Japan. My wife is of Japanese decent and her family loves to go to Kamakura. I, myself, hate sushi and all types of seafood. This worried me that I would leave Kamakura hungry. Nothing to worry about though, there are a few beef and chicken dinners that are absolutely amazing. Kamakura is one of the pricier restaurants in Champaign, but a few times a year they do offer half price sushi. more

Food is good but price is high 8/5/2005

Their food is ok to good but price is very high. Well the price might be ok for New Yorker but certainly not for a small town. The thing is there are not many Japanese restaurant in U-C so this might be the reason why it can survive. I used to go there often when their price was ok. But recent years it looks like their raise the price. more

Excellent sushi and seafood 8/2/2005

Kamakura is a much more authentic Japanese place than you'd expect to find in Champaign. Their sushi bar is excellent, as are their grilled scallops and mussels. The only weak spot in the menu is their salads--they don't offer an asian salad, just a bagged iceberg/cabbage/carrot mix with an asian dressing. Overall a great place, though, and the atmosphere and decor are excellent. more
