Best

Kamakura is a great place to go for a wide variety of occasions. I've been there with friends, birthdays, family dinners, business and organization meetings, and semi-formal event...

Worst

Their food is ok to good but price is very high. Well the price might be ok for New Yorker but certainly not for a small town. The thing is there are not many Japanese restaurant ...

The sukiyaki is really good, and their sushi is quite respectable. more

Kamakura I have not hit the right fit yet 1/5/2008

My daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren all like this restaurant a lot....I have been there 4 or 5 times and do not like it. It has become a challange, I like oriental foods. If I eat there with them I AM GOING TO FIND SOMETHING I LIKE. Last trip 01/03/08, I ordered veg stir fry 50% was cabbage, and arrived almost cold....one would think for $13 I could get more than cabbage and soy sauce soup. Tasted wife,s Soba and friends Chic B Box...no go on either one. There must be something there I will like...any advice? more

$1 Sushi on Mondays 2/9/2006

had read a review that the owner of the restaurant hails from Kamakura in Japan. However, the restaurant has more than one Thai employee, one of whom was a server who knew less about the menu than I did. So it's anybody guess as to who the chef is. \r \r The sushi is fairly decent, though the $1 offer is somewhat misleading. Only 8 types of sushi are included in the offer, and its a dollar PER piece. more

Best sushi place in town 4/30/2005

Kamakura is a great place to go for a wide variety of occasions. I've been there with friends, birthdays, family dinners, business and organization meetings, and semi-formal events. The sushi is good, wait staff is considerate, and the management is accomodating to your needs. Pros: GOOD sushi, Accomodating, Great servers Cons: Parking (30 spots) more

Sub par Japanese dining in Champaign 2/13/2004

I can honestly say that the only thing close to good Japanese about this restaurant was the rice. The salad was like a halved head of iceberg lettuce with some tasteless dressing. The sauce for the chicken tariyaki would be better from a bottle at the store. The sushi rolls were mostly rice (which makes you fill up fast), but which leaves you with the distinct impression that it wasn't all that quality. The one good thing I can say is that the sashimi was tasty. If you were only going to have that, then you might be okay. Pros: Very Friendly Service, Good sashimi, Nice atmosphere Cons: , Good view of street more

pricey, but worth it 12/9/2003

I use Kamakura as a Japanese steak-house for Teppan-style cooking. Fri - Sun call ahead for reservations. The food is awesome and prepared in front of you. The staff is courteous and makes the evening fun. Dishes range from $12 - $25. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Entertainment Cons: Price, Need a Reservation more
