The care Sasha has received over the years from Kalvig and Shorter Veterinary Associates has EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS. When your veterinarian, in this case Dr. Kalvig, is on the phone late at night with her staff coordinating a strategy aimed at saving your pet's life, including having one of her nurses arrive at your residence within 10 minutes to safely and successfully place a terrified & thus extremely aggressive Sasha in her carrying case, while one one of her dedicated technicians has already received a full debriefing from the Animal Poison Control Center & immediately alerted the animal hospital's ER of Sasha's condition & to be prepared for her arrival, it's simply overwhelming. \r \r Dear Dr. Kalvig, Dr. Shorter & team, I can't thank you enough for everything you have done to provide the very best of care for Sasha over the years. I wish you the best of luck in your new location, & am very much looking forward to thanking you in person :) more

I have known Dr. Kalvig for over 20 years, she and Dr. Shorter are the two finest veterinarians in the city. Our cat Wonka has been in their care for the past 17 years and is happy and healthy because of their fine attention to every aspect of a pet's health. They help not only with the physical but with behavioral and in home care as well. I wouldn't trust any other people to care for my lovely Wonka and before her my adorable Miss Kitty. When I first went to Dr. Kalvig it was because of her close proximity to our home, they have moved since and we have followed. I know this may be hard to believe but Wonka loves Dr. Kalvig and is really happy to see her whenever we visit, this is how fantastic Dr. Kalvig is and everyone else at Kalvig and Shorter....Now, if I could only find a human doctor that is as wonderful as they are:) more

I first met Dr. Barbara Kalvig of KSV Associates over 20 years ago. At that time, she helped to care for my cat who had developed hyperthyroidism and was suffering from a very severe ear infection with neurological complications. She later adopted out to me a young cat that she had rescued, that had been abused, neglected and injured. When that cat later nded life saving intestinal surgery, she was part of the team diagnosing and caring for her. So of course, with all the excellent care she rendered my pets, I chose to stay with her to care for my current 2 rescues. I have also had the opportunity to meet Dr. Shorter, who has also cared for both of my cats that I now have. more

As a pre-veterinary student, Dr. Kalvig 6/4/2012

As a pre-veterinary student, Dr. Kalvig and Dr. Shorter opened their doors to me as mentors and teachers of the veterinary profession. I have learned so much from them over the years not only about medications and treatments but also about high standards of patient care. They are extremely attentive to all of their patients and go above and beyond what is asked of them. They take the time to talk to each client and make sure that they get the best care possible for their pets and also dedicate their personal time to volunteering to improve the health and welfare of pets worldwide. I am proud to say that I have worked with them for several wonderful years and I will never forget all that they have taught me as I go on to practice veterinary medicine myself. more

Dr. Shorter and Dr. Kalvig are the best... 1/10/2012

Just an update on our veterinarian, Dr. J. M. Shorter. He has seen us through the many highs and few lows that we went through with our dogs Scout, Annie and Jocko. He is a great doctor and a wise adviser. We had to turn to him when we made an impulsive move and adopted a dog who is not meant to live in the city. The situation with our new girl and our old guys was becoming risky and we called Dr. Shorter on New Years Day in a panic. He opened the doors of his office to us right away and his staff has been taking care of Rosey while we find a home for her. They let us come visit/walk her and are taking care of her like she's their own. Dr. Shorter, Dr.Kalvig and their staff are smart, decent and amazing people. We (and Rosey) love and appreciate them more than we can ever say. more

Long term client 6/7/2011

I've have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Barbara Kalvig for over 25 years. We first met when I had my first Shih-Tzu named Benson, and Dr Kalvig was working with the late Dr. Howard Kessler. She was the ONLY veterinarian in his practice that actually gave my dog a comprehensive checkup and our relationship started there. Ben died at 10 years of age from a quickly spreading cancer, and eight months after his death, I adopted a Shih-Tzu pup who I named Jerry. more

Excellent Veterinarians 11/8/2010

I met Dr. Barbara Kalvig 13+1/2 years ago when she was covering for another Vet, whom I had been going to for 25 years, and at that time with my third and forth dogs (all four having been patients there in their day). My 16+1/2 year old ""baby"" who had never been ill, with the exception of a temporary problem after giving birth, had just been diagnosed with kidney failure. I was distraught, to say the least, and was taught how to give her fluid injections on more

Our dog Scout wouldn't have made it through the past year without the medical expertise and outstanding care we got from Dr. Shorter and his staff. I was alone with her (my husband was out of town) when she developed acute pancreatitis. This happened on a Sunday when the vet's office is officially closed but they were available to me 24/7 and helped me get Scout to the office for the emergency care she needed. She was then diagnosed with Cushing's disease late last year and is doing very well under Dr. Shorter's watchful and expert care. We are always happy with the treatment our dogs get at the Kalvig/Shorter office, be it emergency medical care or a routine visit that might include a nice bath from Kasheener and Angela. Drs. Shorter and Kalvig are spectacular and they've surrounded themselves with a staff of loving and amazing people. more

I followed her throughout the years until she opened her own practice with her wonderful partner, Dr. James M Shorter. Jerry was a perfectly healthy dog until 13 1/2 years of age, when all of a sudden he became very ill. It took her vast skill, dedication & patience (really detective work) to determine that he had a tumor on his adrenal gland. We could not know if it was malignant or benign until surgery was performed to remove it. Luckily it was benign, and he recovered more

I am writing this as a heartfelt recommendation for Dr. Kalvig.\r If you have a pet and if live anywhere near to NYC, by all means---make your way to her office!\r \r Dr. Kalvig cared diligently and well for my two cats who lived-somewhat surprisingly--to the ages of 18 and 20. I cannot imagine that I would have had as many long and happy years with them had I entrusted their care to any other doctor.\r \r Dr Kalvig is thorough, pragmatic, and caring--deeply concerned with the well being of the animals in her care while also showing a great sensitivity to the challenges that we humans encounter when caring for sick creatures. \r \r While she took truly lovely care of both my "boys," I would like to share a little detail abouth the miraculous and exceptional work she did with my cat, Sprite. At 7 years old, Sprite was diagnosed with a form of heart disease that is nearly always fatal for cats--often within two years (and in many cases even less)\r \r Misdiagnosed and wrongly medicated by two oth more

Our practice was founded upon a strong belief in the need for thorough, honest, and compassionate service within all healthcare fields.
