What a disappointment 3/13/2010

Seems like the chef is using the deep fat fryer for most foods. The falafel was tough, dry and generally unappetizing. Looked like animal droppings. Same with the shrimp cakes (not sure if there really was any shrimp in them though). Bartender was a bit curt and not too helpful. Ask what beers they have and he will recite them in some memorized order. If you interrupt him to ask about a beer he he begins the list again from the top. I would recommend choosing someplace else if going downtown. What a waste of an evening. Cons: The food was mediocre at best more

Love this place 11/3/2008

Customers not a priority 6/28/2008

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore, dining there more than ten times this past year on a resident physician schedule, referring many friends, until the valet service did more than park my car. Not only did they charge to valet, I gave a tip, they helped themselves to my GPS unit that was not in plain sight. Being that this unit was not in out in the open, it did not occur to me to check for the unit until I got home fifteen minutes later, at which point I was advised it was too late to make a claim. The valet denies responsibility, their insurance company denies responsibility, as does Mezze's manager. I understand the ""industry standard"" but hailing from NYC where I expect customer satisfaction to be paramount, I would have at least expected an apology or some form of reimbursement from the restaurant itself. Pros: Variety, Reasonably Priced Cons: Always late with reservations, Crowded, Poor Customer Service more

Used to be a great restaurant...just know you will wait 30 minutes with a reservation 3/1/2008

I used to love going to Mezze due to the wonderful food and yummy sangria. However, the last 3 times I have been my party of has waited 30 minutes to be seated. Last night, the owner argued with us about the issue instead of admitting that this is unacceptable. He stated that most restaurants require you to wait which is just an insane statement to say to a customer. They are always out of something on a Saturday night and usually the food is cold. Make sure you remember all the items you order. There are 2 different kitchens and often times everything that is ordered does not come out unless you say something. Also when you do have to wait, there is absolutly no room and you will be on top of of 20 other people in the bar area. On NYE they required us to make a 50 dollar deposit for our reservation. After waiting 45 minutes, they tried putting our party of 6 at a 3 person table. My girlfriends and I will be finding a new favorite place to eat! more

Not Bad, Not Great 7/26/2007

After trying Kali's Court, which I enjoyed very much, I just haaad to try Mezze. I found a parking garage a block up the street for $3.00, so I didn't have to work up a sweat on the way to dinner - Fells Point is usually packed on the weekends. I went with my mother and her friend, both in their early 60's, and both avid foodies. Although there were a few open tables on the first level, the hostess simply said, ""Upstairs."" She plainly pointed at the staircase. We found a table, and in under ten minutes we were given menus. Everything went smoothly, we tried the Oven Baked Oysters, Shrimp Cakes, Grilled Sardines, Goat Cheese Stuffed Peppers, and old reliable Olives, Spinach Pie, and Roasted Eggplant. They give you a small starter dish of a few olives, and bring a medium sized cone dish of delicious, warm, pita bread. The sangria was sweet and fruity, and available in a carafe. All the food was tastey, and lived up to expectations, but not remarkable. I appreciated that the waiter paced the delivery of the dishes, and they began to arrive promptly. As the last empty dish was removed, we were considering ordering one more thing. The waiter said he would give us a minute to think about it, and gave us a strange look when we asked for some more pita while we reviewed the menu. He disappeared for about 20 minutes, and the pita was delivered by someone else. He then made an appearance in the room, to talk to another table, and ignored my, ""excuse me"", twice. More time goes by. It was getting late so when somone came to wipe down an empty neighboring table I asked if he could locate our server. After the weird vibe, and the neglect, we decided to just take our check. Pros: close parking lot, tastey food Cons: strange service more

Large Groups Beware! 10/16/2006

We booked Mezze for dinner for 25-30 guests with an onsite visit. The contact person was difficult to reach and did not return messages. With every call, there was a different contact person to repeat the event over and over. Seating arrangements were made on 1st visit, but didn't uphold for the night of the dinner. Planners of such events arrive early to check the location out. We were told we could begin at 8pm, but upon arrival 7:30pm the tables still had customers eating/chatting. However, their representative did call the morning of the event to confirm guest and time, but that was a waste of our time. There was no standing room inside, therefore, we the guests stood outside 45mins or more. The hostess at the front door needed a shot of ""charm"" because she had none. We entered as tables were being set up and had to rearrange them. We had one server for a pre-set sit down dinner. Yes, one! After speaking up, we had three, but you still had to police them to continously fill water, soft drinks, wine, bread etc. We knew (Kali's Court Customer) the food was going to be ""great"" and it was, but NEVER, NEVER AGAIN, we will dine as a group or recommend to others. Someone needs to take ""management classes"" in a ""BIG"" way. Pros: food only Cons: forget reservations they do more

Horrible, disappointing experience 7/7/2006

We booked Mezze for dinner for 30-40 guests. The contact person was difficult to reach and did not return messages. We were promised a room large enough for guests to stand around and mingle. However, on the morning of the event, their representative called several times. First, our guests would have to have a seated dinner instead of buffet style, as promised earlier. Then, although we finalized the menu months before, he told us he just noticed they no longer make some of our selections, and we had to make last minute substitutions. When we arrived, the room was very cramped - it could not accomodate all our guests standing, and barely fit everyone seated. We do not recommend planning any type of event there. The planning process was a nightmare, and they made many last minute changes just before our event. An awful, disappointing experience. more

Never going back. 6/21/2006

After one horrendous experience, when I had to wait > 1 hour after the time of my reservation, I decided to give them a second try. Bad decision. Though I was seated right away without a reservation, the hostess hovered about my table all night, and finally actually said to our party ""You guys are still here?"" Of course we would've left if we were served in a timely manner, but it was hard to find our waiter after the first time he stopped by (curious since it's not a big restaurant). Most of the food is bland and plain--could've made better at home. The one exception is the dessert; I can only speak for the chocolate cake, which was great before, and now that it's a flourless one is even better. The only problem is finding the waiter so that you can order dessert. I only recommend the place if you're looking for bad service and mediocre food. Maybe an okay spot just for dessert if you like chocolate cake. Cons: service, food. more

Terrible experience 4/20/2006

A poor experience from top to bottom. Poor service (saw our waitor maybe once every 30-40minutes) our dinner took 3.5 hours! some dishes never came out, took along time to come out. Water never filled, dessert came before entrees. Loud environment. Cold inside restaurant. It is cheaper to buy drinks (sangria) by the glass than by pitcher/carafe--go figure? Hostess rude-expected us to leave in one hour--which is a mission impossible...considering the poor service. Some dishes were tasty, but not worth all the other negatives. The chocolate cake previously on menu (probably best item) now changed to nasty alternative under same name-waitor did not warn us of this. When we brought this to his attention he shrugged his shoulders... This place is unbelievably poor. REservations don't matter--we made one and then waited 1.5 hours.. To top it off, our car was broken into one block away! Pros: some good dishes Cons: service, ambience more

Fabulous! Absolutely fabulous! 1/24/2006

Three grown women, friends since childhood, met in Fells Point on a Monday night for dinner. We had no reservations and none of us had ever been here before but based on a recommendation, decided to give it a try. We opted to sit upstairs and the ambience was wonderful! The service was flawless! The food even better! What a great place! They serve tapas (little plates) and the selection is beyond belief. We all agreed their salmon was the best wed ever had and the portions were quite generous! The asparagus plate, hummus, zucchini fritters all wonderful. This is the perfect way to dine build your own meal with exactly what you like. Although their wine list was impressive, we decided to try their bar. Their Cosmopolitan and Chocolatini cocktails were superb! We may even let our husbands come next time.... Pros: Reasonable, Innovative, Atmosphere Cons: None! more

Long Wait 10/28/2005

Very nice atmosphere, but even when you have a reservation, you still have to wait a while. Waiters could be a little more educated on their menus. more

I love this place 10/13/2005
