Best Pasta Downtown 6/3/2010

I really didn't want to write a review of Justa Pasta b/c it's the place where I go to for great pasta and just to relax with my family...don't like it when it's too crowded, but I have to be fair and pay my respects. Pros: fresh organic ingredients w/ walk-up ordering Cons: none, service I suppose if you like to be waited on more

Great pasta! 11/11/2007

Best Alfredo ever 8/4/2007

Last night was my first night there when eight of us agreed to meet there at 6pm on a Friday night. They pushed two tables together for us but this probably isn't the best place to go with a group greater than five. We ordered dinner at the counter (a tiny bit of a drag as noted below, but minor) and the cashier recommended a glass of Nebblio ($7). The wine was so good I ended up getting a bottle ($25) and sharing with the rest of the adults. I was there with my teenage daughter so we split a salad and each ordered an entree. The salad was simply a mix of greens but the shallot vinegrette dressing was fantastic. The bread they served on the table was very fresh served with olive oil and balsamic. I ordered the whole wheat pasta with garlic oil. My daughter had the penne alfredo. My pasta was cooked well but I wouldn't order this again. It had lots of garlic and bits of green olives but was otherwise rather plain. I wish the dish had something else in it like greens or broccoli. On the other hand, my daughter's alfredo cream sauce was the bomb. I've never had alfredo that was as rich, creamy and delicious. Served on a perfectly cooked pasta. I'd certainly go back for that again. I will note that when we left at 7:15, there was a huge line out the door and you don't get seated here until AFTER you've ordered your food. more

Best Neighborhood Pasta Place 5/27/2007

I happen to be lucky enough to consider Justa Pasta a neighbor. I order take-out all the time but also eat in just as much. I had a perfect experience every time. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Thank god they are there to feed me great food every night! more

Puzzled by the great food in a cafeteria type of setting... 5/19/2007

...as in order at the counter, carry your drink to a table, and get your own glass of water from the side bar. Still, order a salad because it is huge and good, very fresh and tasty with vinaigrette. I had a chicken dish that was great with pasta that filled the plate, not cute, but full and satisfying. It was definitely a good deal. And now that summer is here, an option is to sit outside, dine al fresco. Give it a try and wear your jeans or walking shorts because you will be well dressed in a nice casual way. Pros: Somewhat unusual for a bar and small plate kind of guy... Cons: Order at the counter? No table service... more

Our favorite Italian! 10/23/2006

Please dont listen to other reviews regarding the wine list at Justa. Knowledgeable people would appreciate the wine and the prices here!! You can find a nice quality red wine here for $14/bottle! Not many restaurants offer that! The beet salad is delicious and the servers are very welcoming and down to earth. A great place to relax and enjoy good food/wine! Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, fresh ingredients, good wine more

awesome food awesome wine awesome people 10/6/2006

I've heard about justa pasta for years, but never made it there. Finally I had the occassion to go when a co-worker invited me to dinner. I tell you, i haven't had a dinner this good in Portland! The butternut squash ravioli with chanterelle cream sauce was divine! My co-worker ordered the lamb lasagna and it is not something i would normally order. Delicious! The wine was a soave and went perfectly with my ravioli and the chocolate cake was the best in the city. I mean THE BEST! It was busy, but felt like a ""buzz."" My co-worker has been several times ... add me to the list of regulars. This place rocks! Pros: food, vibe, wine Cons: it's not closer to my house more

Italian thats affordable! 7/28/2006

I love justa pasta! Good wine selection cheap or expensive choices. All pasta is made fresh and you can buy the pasta to go! All dishes are yummy and you can choose large or small portions (small is more than enough). Pros: cheap, variety more

Get what you pay for 7/16/2006

Went here with 6 friends for a casual dinner, and received just that. I had a ravioli w/ a garlic chili oil that was decent. The chili infusion was a bit much for my pallet, but I bet a lot of you would love it, that is if you like spicy food. Oh yeah, and it was only...like...$8.50 of something close. The meal filled me up and my buddies had no complaints either. It won't knock your socks off, but it is well worth the price. Pros: Simple, filling, kinda fun also Cons: Limited options more

A nice local dine... 4/10/2006

Coming here for dinner is quite relaxing, JP has a chilled, unpretensious & neighborhoodly vibe. The food is fresh, straightforward & simply delicious coming in two serving sizes, there is also specials & wine too. This place can also be quite romantic with its softer lighting & plush interior. The service is a nice bonus too, the staff & chefs are all top-notch. Definitely worth a munch! Pros: Cosy, Food, Staff Cons: Limited winelist? more

highly recommended 8/16/2005

I want to respond to rating guys recommendation. Do not pay any attention to it. I feel exactly the opposite of what he said. First of all their pasta is made on site, their salad is wonderful, soup is fantastic, and last but not least the wine is very reasonably priced (and is as good or better than some of the swankier placed in town). The other plus is that it is a great place to bring your kids and still feel like your ""going out"" for the night. Pros: great food, good wine-good price, nice atmosphere more

They still can't figure it out... 8/6/2005

With its cafeteria-style italian food, and overpriced wine, Justa Pasta needs to rethink, the formula. You tend to expect a little more neighborhood friendliness at a place like this, but it's quite the opposite. Their formula is ""take some basic pasta, toss some basic sauces on it and hope people will stand in line, serve themselves and not expect any customer service."" It's Justa Nother institutional-type pasta restaurant that passes iteslf off as Italian. Service was awful. Our server couldn't figure out why we would want a bread plate, and if you want water, you have to walk to the other side of the restaurant to get it yourself. Given more time they might get this right, but it's not worthy of your money yet. Pros: Comfortable, Location, Loud Cons: Awful Service, Impossible Parking, Overpriced Wine more

Hidden jewel 4/26/2005

My wife and I eat here nearly once a week. The food is fantastic, fresh, and creatively prepared. The combination of selection and price for wines can not be beat in Portland. You'd be hard pressed to pay more than $30 for a bottle, and many in the $teens are delicious. The service has always been friendly and courteous. Combine all of that with a slick, loft-like interior, with (thankfully!) nicely dimmed lighting, and you have one of Portland's best pasta joints. Pros: Value, Food, Service more

She kicked my 9-month pregneant wife out of seat 3/26/2005

The rudest server I have ever encountered. She thew my 9th month pregnant wife out of her seat because she wouldn't stand in line to order with me. She yellod, ""You can't sit there, you must stand in line to order your food, he can't order for you!"" repeatedly. Famished and swollen feet and all. After the waitress yelled at my wife across the crowded restaurant and thoroughly embarrased her, my wife left sobbing barely able to breathe. Please do not patronize this place. Cons: poor service, rude service, unprofessional more

Excellent food @Excellent value 9/19/2004

We have be to Justa Pasta 4 times and it has not let us down once. From the fresh bread and excellent olive oil to dessert, I cannot tell my friends fast enough how excellent this place. Especially for the price. I highly recommend a glass of the Cecilia Bereta Valpolicella! Pros: Outstanding Food, Attentive Service, Attention to detail Cons: , limited seating more

great Italian 8/3/2004

I realy enjoyed my lunch there! I am amazed by how creative the dishes are,the specials in perticular.Great value and just the right amount of food! Pros: Value, Food quality, Pasta more

Justa pasta ... my favorite 7/14/2004

Justa Pasta is truly one of the best restaurants in Portland. The food is so good, and so reasonably priced. What I love best, however, is that they never try to be anything more than what they are -- great food -- prepared simply -- using excellent ingredients. I have been there with my kids, on a date, and by myself and I am always treated the same and I always have an excellent meal. Yeh, you have to wait in line, but at least you never have to deal with flakey or uppity waiters and waitresses. The same staff has been there for years, and seem genuinely concerned with the happiness of their customers. Bravo! for Justa Pasta! Pros: excellent food, consistency, friendly staff more
