Best

Really good people, they do what they can to make sure your car is in good order, for a reasonable price.

Worst

I will not go again - They charged over $300 for a new battery - about $90 for "diagnostics", then $150 for battery, then labor charge AND a "shop materials fee" When I complaine...

Way overpriced 9/14/2011

Good: Seems like good work. Very fast.. Bad: WAY overcharged. 100x markup on the part. My fault for not realizing until it was too late.. Improvements: Obviously you can mark up stuff you sell, but when it's 100x the price I could have paid at any local or online parts store, you are not winning any customers over.. more

Stay Away Too! 9/5/2011

I'd give it a negative if it was possible. I needed my car repaired. And since I'm not from Boulder, I asked around for mechanics and was sent to John's Auto Care. I wasn't happy with the service, and really felt like he was overcharging me but decided not to argue. I was quoted one amount and when I went to pick up my car it was 1/2 again as much. He said he had to include labor. Why would you quote with out labor. I want to know what its going to take to get me back on the road. The brand new OEM part they put in failed before 6 months I had to have a new one put in. They wanted to know why I didn't bring it back to them but I was not in Boulder and it was too expensive to take it back to them. There was susposed to be a warranty on the part and they promised me they'd call me back but never did. I'm out another $500. No integrity here. No follow through. Stay away from John's Auto Care. more

integrity 3/5/2010

These guys have so much integrity. I have been going to them since I was nine months pregnant with my almost four year old doctor. They have never overcharged me, always been honest. They fixed some leaks that that were under their warranty. I am leaving boulder and am bummed to leave such a trustworthy mechanic. more

He earned my trust 3/18/2009

I brought my 1995 Olds 98 to John after another mechanic had fixed it twice by replacing an electronic module. This time, the car had died in a busy intersection, very unsafe. So I wanted it to be fixed for sure. John took the time to figure out why the module wasn't working. Some piece that held it in wasn't holding it as tight as it should have. It took a lot of diagnostic time, but he didn't charge me any more than the standard time for diagnosing the problem. No computer readout and no swapping of parts could have ever figured out this problem. I told John he had a customer for life. I recommended him to my sister, and she gave me the feedback that "he isn't cheap". I thought about that, and decided, he is worth it. John gives you the same quality and experience that you get at the dealership, and compared to them, his prices are very reasonable. He is not competing with Grease Monkey for cheap oil changes, but every time you get your oil changed at John's, you will know your car has been thoroughly checked out. He will give you recommendations and prioritize them for you, not tell you that you have to get them all done right now. I give him "perfect" 5 stars because I consider John's Auto Care the best combination of price and service. Not that they can't make a mistake, but they will always talk to you about it, and make it up to you if your argument is reasonable. more

Stay Away 8/25/2005

My friend needed her car repaired recently. She asked around for mechanics and was sent to John's Auto Care (apparently he's a friend of a friend of a friend - or something like that). He was supposed to meet her there in the morning, so I went with her to meet him and take her home after dropping her car off. He never showed. She eventually took it to Fuji Motors next door - but somehow John managed to get the keys from them and worked on her car. She wasn't happy with the service, and really felt like he was overcharging her, but decided not to argue. After all that, he forgot to tighten some gasket, so she had to take it back - and he didn't fix the problem she wanted fixed in the first place. Even though he did give us free oil changes I wouldn't take my car there. You're better off going to a dealer or any known reputable shop that offers a warranty on their service.
