I called Joe's to try to get an estimate. He was incredibly rude to me, spoke to me as though I was an idiot, and hung up on me. I'll never go there. Cons: Rude.

Mean Guy, Slow Pace, Bad Quality 2/6/2008

The guy I talked with, ostensibly Joe, was immediately kurt and vitriolic with me when I brought my boots in for a simple repair. He did about half the work I asked of him, charging $20. It's amazing to me that he has stayed in business so long. I've been looking for other places to fix my shoes around the hood, but haven't come up with anything -- perhaps this lack of competition is his secret. more

the worst craftmanship, service, hours, prices and attitude! 1/11/2007

I only went to Joe since he was only 5 blocks from my apartment. I trusted him with a 1969 pair of beautiful western frye boots. I needed to re-do my heels, which is necessary every year or so. The work was extremely poor (large nails sticking out) and sloppy, very costly ($20), and I asked him a question about another pair and he was quite rude and obnoxious. Plus he's not open later than 5. What planet is he living on? It was worth me walking an extra few blocks to Professional Italian Shoe Repair on flatbush and they did an EXCELLENT job this year. I replaced the soles and heels and my boots look better than they did in 1969. Price was better than Joe! more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE 12/15/2006

This guy is so rude it is incredible, and he does not take any pride in his work. I mean, the hostility was at a truly toxic level. He refused outright to polish this one pair of shoes I brought in. It is not clear to me why. He was just like, ""I cannot do anything with these! Take them home!"" Then I left another pair of boots to have a zipper fixed and to be resoled. He marked them on the sole where they needed fixing. When I came back a week later, he had fixed the zipper but claimed that this was all I had asked him to do. He just totally lied! The soles were still half-worn away and had his markings on them indicating where he was supposed to have fixed them. It was $25 for the fixed zipper, which looked OK, but slightly uneven. Next time I would go into Manhattan rather than leave anything with him. more

It's great to have a local shoe repair shop in Park Slope. The repairs are of average quality. The shop closes fairly early, so check his schedule before dropping off or picking up shoes. Pros: local more
