Worst

To tell you the truth, I can't really tell the difference between Pat's, Geno's, Jim's, whoever's cheese steaks... but, I do know that the two times I went to Jim's I came out of ...

The Best Philly Cheesesteak 7/25/2006

I went to Philly a few weeks ago with my friends for a mini-vacation. We definitely had to try the cheesesteaks! We've eaten at Geno's, Pat's and Jim's. Geno's steak didn't have enough flavor and Pat's was only a little bit better. My friends drenched their steaks from Geno's and Pat's in ketchup and mayo. I like my steaks as is - greasy in it's cheesy-fried onion goodness. None of the two top dogs measure up to Jim's in flavor and quality. One of the cooks was slightly rude to some of the customers but I had a nastier time at Pat's, who didn't even wrap my steak up like Jim's who gives you the full service! We were all happy the most with JIM'S! We even had lunch and each brought one home with us as dinner on our last day in Philly. It is worth the money! Don't throw away your money at Geno's or Pat's (all the steaks are around 7 bucks each for anywhere decent so spend that 7 on a definite winner!). You will see why Jim's is the local favorite. Stop by Rita's Water Ice too if you want a fantastic frozen treat! I'm want some cheesesteaks now!!!! *drools* Pros: Cheesesteaks! I wanna eat one NOW! Cons: Wasting my money at Pat's and Geno's more

Not worth the wait nor the price. 7/7/2006

Our family was very disappointed. We waited for absolutely nothing. I can make a better cheesesteak. The onions and mushrooms did not even help; you need to season your meat. Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE Cons: LONG WAIT, TOO EXPENSIVE, AND VERY LIMITED SEATING more

The Best! 6/6/2006

I've only been in Philly a few years, but I've had many cheesesteaks. I will take Jim's all day long over the others. Just sayin' Pros: food Cons: the line more

smell tat... 6/7/2005

I can smell the cheesesteak from a block away. It's one of my favorite place to get cheesesteak in Philly. I wouldn't go there on the weekends tho. The line is real long. I like the way they chopped up my steaks. It's not as bad as some ppl say. Maybe it's my own preferences. They could put more wiz on it tho. more

Jim, will you marry me? 6/2/2005

I was in Philadelphia visiting my girlfriend and I wanted to get a cheesesteak so she took me to Jim's. This was by far the best cheesesteak I have ever had, in fact we went back again for some more. The service was gruff but thats the way local spots are. I'm from pittsburgh so your used to that kind of service if you eat a Primanti's at all. All in all it was awesome, the place is loaded with autographs, the cheesesteaks are good, and the service is quick. Pros: best cheesesteaks, quick, good atmosphere more

Know what you're going to order before you order 5/19/2005

I got yelled at by the people in back, then my own sister turned to yell at me too. more

Pressed Up Against The Window... 9/15/2004

I have been coming to Jim's since college. Their cheesesteaks are perhaps the best sandwich I have ever had. I now live in New York City, but have taken several road trips to Philly when I need that cheesesteak fix. The line is long, but I spend that time with my face up against the window, longing for that sizzling, nearly fat-free, thinly sliced meat. Cheez Whiz and onions are the only way to do it. And for all you reviewers who complain about the service, try being polite yourself. Don't just bark an order. Your server is a person too. I am always nice to them and last time they gave me my cheesesteak for free. Pros: soft, big rolls, quality meat, translucent onions Cons: , uncomfortable seating more

Overrated 6/16/2004

The best part of the Jim's experience is the smell that the kitchen vents eject onto South Street. The problem with Jim's is that it became too well-known. Their meat is made in mass quantities, and often sits on the grill for up to an hour before it's actually put into a steak. This makes it far too tough and chewy, and tends to cook all of the flavor out of the meat. The peppers are also not traditional hot or sweet peppers, but soggy and overcooked bell peppers. Jim's may have once had some of the best steaks in Philly, but not anymore. Pros: Name, Location Cons: , long line, bad peppers more

Local Landmark!!! 6/15/2004

Forget Pat's and Geno's, those are for drunks at 3am. Locals will suggest this one. Just take the tude and the food as part of the ambience, take the food upstairs, and don't forget to order ""Lager"" to drink, a local fave! more

Don't waste your time.... 4/2/2004

Our concierge recommended Jim's, but I wish we would have stuck with our plan of going to Dessandro's. The sandwich was just O.K. - dry meat and grease. The service at the counter was horrible!!! I think the chef thought he was funny, but I found it just plain rude. more

THE BEST PHILLY STEAKS 12/5/2003

By far Jum's steaks are the best steaks I have ever had. I do agree with some reviews that the staff are not very friendly and they do not take the time to chop up the meat enough, but there is absolutley NO FAT in these steaks unlike Geno's and Pat's. My husband and I have searched for other good cheesesteaks including Delassandro's in Roxborough - DOES NOT EVEN COMPARE! Jim's still remains to be the BEST Philly cheesesteak we have ever had! more

Tourist Trap 9/29/2003

I can't believe people say this place is good. The people who work there are IGNORANT. The Steaks are chopped up to hide all the fat. They cook with water, which dries them out. It end up tasting like the toppings because it lack flavor. It is a disgrace that this is the first impression someone has of a cheesesteak in Philly. Go to Steve's, the best in my opinon (South Bustleton off Cottman in the North East) or Pat's and Geno's (10th and Passyunk) at least at these places it tastes like a cheesesteak. Pros: South Street Cons: Ignorant Staff, Lousy Cheesesteak, Tourist Trap more

The WORST Steak in Philly 9/5/2003

Not Enough Cheese Wiz, Meat was Dry. Overall it was the worst Cheesesteak I have ever eaten more

Not Worth The Hype 8/1/2003

It was recommended while on vacation and crowded, which was OK if food is good. But the servers VERY RUDE to the point of being obnoxious. Cheesesteaks were bland and not very tasty. Not worth the hype or the wait. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Location, Portion Size Cons: Rude Servers, Limited Seating, Cleanliness more

jims steaks 7/6/2003

i really enjoy the steak very much. the steak has a very good flavor, however, there is not enough meat on the sandwich for the price. i patronize the other store in west phila. if they would give you a fatter sandwich i would'nt have any complaints. it is bad enough that they give you a short roll, put some meat on it. also, take the time to chop the steak up finer. they serve it in chunks, that can't be good on the digestive system. cut up your steak .i never saw anyone serve steak in this manner. people always chop your steak up. Pros: good flavor Cons: unchooped steak, expensive, crowded more

The Worst Steak in the WORLD 6/12/2003

I have eaten many cheesesteaks throughout the country. All outside of Philadelphia are bad, but none comes close to Jim's. It is the most dry, tasteless steak I have ever had in my life. Any place you see people put ketchup on their steak, stay away. I have no idea why this place is so famous - Stick with Pat's and Geno's. more

Jims Steaks 5/22/2003

For years Jims Steaks has taken a backseat to Pats in south philly. What doesnt make sense is how anyone could even compare the juicy, thinly sliced, lean tender beef at Jims to the thick, Grissly, dried out meat at pats??? Pros: fast service, fresh product, open late Cons: south street crowd more

Heaven in Cheese Steak form 4/30/2003

This is the best cheese steak in the world! I have been eating from Jims since I was 9, and I am going to be 39 in July! I have NEVER had a bad one and whatever Jims I go to is out of this world! This is the haven for meat loving people. I can't imagine a world without Jims. This might sound crazy, but the reason I still live in the area is because of the great tasting steaks they have. I there was a Jims in Orlando Fla. my life would be complete! Pros: Best tasting meat, never too crowded, Parking is convenient Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Meat and Cheese and Onions 1/5/2003

Meat and Cheese and Onions on a Roll, what else do you need to know. the best in philly is right here and that all that should be on your steak, no lettuce, no mayo just meat and cheese and onions on a roll. more
