Favorite Brunch Spot! 10/4/2011

Why hasn't Jim's been on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives? The food and service is always great. I seem to only go here in the morning and afternoon, but every meal so far has been wonderful. I have been eating at their establishment at least once a month for the past 12 years. more

Pros: Huge portions of food at a reasonable price/Great service/Everything! try the dinner menu it will b l o w ur mind how great it can be also Cons: i cant find one thing wrong. more

Great breakfast and lunch place 10/19/2006

Jims seems to be the hub of Alameda breakfast fare. It's the place to go for weekend breakfast...and I know why. The food is great! Yeah, it can be crowded, and you'll have to wait on weekends to get in (usually no more than 20 minutes or so) but the food quality and value make up for it. Highly recommend the Chili Verde Omelet, pork chops, sandwiches, and any breakfast item. It's family owned and their staff is their extended family. So it's sorta like a home environment in a large diner out of the 40's...with great food. Highly recommended. more

Good Eats 8/6/2006

The food is fresh and real, the portions are enormous (I'm serious, the pork chops and eggs were 3 eggs and two huge chops!), the menu extensive. I've had better hotcakes but this is nice, solid, breakfast fare.\r \r Nothing fancy here, but very solid. The line cooks really know their stuff and are happy to accomodate even on the busiest Sunday brunch.\r \r But the best thing on the menu? Their Chicken Casear Salad!\r Housemade dressing, not too garklicky and a full, perfectly grilled, fresh chicken breast for under $10. Tell them to skip the crummy pre-packaged croutons and ask for their bread instead. \r I dine 5 star pretty often but I still have a Jim's chicken ceasar once a week. It's that good!\r \r I enjoy the lack of pretense and none of that hokey fake 50's diner garbage, just solid American meals and some really nice Greek additions. Pros: Chicken Ceasar! GREAT service, Solid Diner Fare Cons: A little greasy at times more

Opa! This Greek family will make you feel loved! 10/16/2005

Jim's is the place to go for breakfast in Alameda. Period. The place is crazy busy all of the time, which lets you know how satisfying the food is. There is free coffee outside on the weekends for those who have to wait. There is something for everyone on the extensive menu. My favorite ""sin"" is the chicken fried steak and eggs with fruit on the side. There is a large selection of omelettes, french toast, waffles, as well as healthier stuff like salads. The staff are super friendly and very efficient, especially the man who oversees the waiting list. We haven't tried dinner there yet - they now serve beer and wine, but the selections look rather mainstream. I would like to see some Greek specialties on the menu that honor the family's heritage. Pros: Variety, delicious diner food, Opa! Cons: Noise, Too popular! more

Breakfast time 3/12/2005

Jim's serves up traditional American breakfasts in an equally traditional environment. Styled like a diner, Jim's conjures up both nostalgic feelings and hunger from the smells wafting out of the kitchen. Pros: Breakfast more

busy and loud 2/27/2005

The food is average, sometimes a bit greasy, atmosphere is loud, voice seems to echo in the restuarant. Not a place to have a leisurely breakfast, too loud and frantic bustling of the waiters rushing about. Pros: big portions Cons: loud, greasy food more

Awesome Diner 8/31/2004

Great, simple food, best breakfast around right down to the homemade sausages. Not great if you are watching your waistline, but perfect comfort food when you need it. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Atmosphere, Good Food more

Pig Out! 6/15/2003

Simple, old-school food and ambiance; a real throwback. Huge portions. Don't expect to find real maple syrup, fresh herbs or artisan cheeses. Decidedly not gourmet, but good nonetheless in its own way (but skip the juice). Great people watching, too. Pros: Service, Quality, Price Cons: Noisy more
