This group should not be in animal rescue, because Dr. Smith's (sole veterinarian running the animal hospital) heart is NOT in it for their animals. I was a volunteer for this...

Run away from this vet 11/30/2008

There are plenty of good vets in st. louis but this is not one of them. If you care about your pet at all - run away from this one. She is horrible. Pros: nothing Cons: incompetent, uncaring more

Absolutely Amazing 11/5/2008

I must say after reading the reviews I was shocked by how many people have had a bad experience here. Dr. Smith is very friendly and seems very compassionate for animals. Her staff is very friendly and seem to enjoy working there. I have never had a bad experience anytime I have come into this hospital. I have many dogs myself. I love the fact that she has also taken on helping homeless animals that could face euthanasia. It is disturbing that people will write bad comments about a business but nobody hardly bothers to write good reviews. \r So hopefully this can put peoples minds to ease when I say I will not go anywhere else but here. I feel at home and love Dr Smith as well as her staff. Pros: Friendly, compassionate people more

Looking for a vet 9/15/2008

I need to get in touch with the folks that had a poor experience with this hospital/vet. I live in St Louis and wanted to talk to someone live. Would anyone be interested in talking to me? more

Great hospital for your four-legged family members! 8/19/2008

I completely disagree with the prior comments. My dog had gone to Jewell for the last five years. While the old Dr was good, I believe the level of care has increased since the practice was sold. My dog never really liked any vet, and therefore, tried to eat them. Otherwise, she was very docile. About three weeks ago, she started to have real problems, and I thought it was arthritis. It turns out that she had cancer and deteriorated rapidly. It was the most devasting thing I've ever had to do, but when she couldn't stand anymore, it was time to let her go. The staff at Jewell was very compassionate and Dr. Smith told us everything she was doing and comforted us about the decision. She gave us all the time we needed to be with our beloved family member both before and after she was gone. When I came out of the room, the whole staff was crying with me and offering me hugs. Pros: modernized more

don't use this vet 6/30/2008

I had the same experiance as the person with the labs. This vet butchered my puppy during a simple neutering. He was cut all down his abdomen, she used staples, released him without any antibiotics and he became very infected. I took him back to her and she told me nothing was wrong. I then had to take him to emergency vet and then to another vet who was able to save him. He almost died. Pros: none that I can think of Cons: she cannot handle spaying and neutering more

This vet butchered my dogs....don't ever take your pets here. 6/30/2008

We adopted two lab mixed puppies from Jewel Animal Hospital. Included in the adoption fee was the surgery to spay and neuter both of our dogs. If I would have known what kind of mess this vet caused with my female dog, I never would have brought her back to this animal hospital to have the surgery. Both of our dogs had complications after surgery...meaning infections where the incisions were. We took them to our local vet, and he could not believe the ""chop job"" this vet preformed. We had the staples removed (which are not used often in these types of surgeries because they are not very flexible), and about a week later the female formed absesses on the incision area. Come to find out, not only were there staples, but also stitches. The stitches are not the ""dissolvable"" kind...causing a major infection and a lot of pain for my poor 5 month old puppy. Please take my advice, NEVER....EVER take your pets to this animal hospital. Pros: The two most absolutely beautiful, loving and wonderful dogs were adopted from this animal hospital Cons: EVERYTHING...especially the veterinarian more

I would never recommend this vet 6/23/2008

This woman is the worst vet I have experienced in many years of pet ownership. She does not talk to clients and she does not care about your pet. She screwed up routine surgery that should have cost about $100 on my pet and it cost me $1000 more after I took my pet to a different vet who knew what they were doing and managed to save my pet. This clinic used to be okay when the old vet was there, but he retired and now it is a disaster. more
