Jenison Animal Hospital

Obviously some of these reviewers are speaking of a different Jenison Animal Hospital and/or Dr. Holt, than the one I deal with. I have nothing negative to say. He is compassionate, trustworthy, and very competent. I am more than pleased!. more

I have used Dr. Holt at Jenison Animal Hospital for over 25 years. Our first experience was when our 9week puppy broke his bottom jaw in the spokes of a bike. Dr. Holt wired his jaw together and we had the dog for 8 wonderful years. Dr. Holt even came to our house when our dog was hit by a car and broke his leg. Now we live about an hour and a half away and I still use this facility for my dogs and cats, the staff is wonderful. The building may be old, but I have been there many times and have not found it to be dirty, I have not found any animals not taken care of properly and believe me, I have been in the back many times. I highly recommend Dr. Holt and his staff, they are the best! more

I take our two dogs and one cat to Jenison Animal hospital. The building is not pretty. It is old and is a little dirty. I am one of those people who is comforted by a nice, shiny new building, but the service and the staff more than make up for the building and furnishings. Dr. Holt is by far the best vet I have ever met. It is clear that he knows his stuff and loves animals. He is also more than willing to talk to me about any issues or problems I might be having with my pet and offers practical advice. I am sad to say that I agree with the other reviewers about Dr. Muessen. However, last time I went in I was given a choice between Dr. Holt or Dr. Muessen. I chose Dr. Holt and I am so happy that he saw my pet. more

I will also say Dr. Holt has done a very good job, my last dog for 16 years, and my new pet.It is a "working" office not all this nice wall to wall carpeting and nicey nicey waiting room.But they get the job done, fees are low.\r \r 5 star for me. more

First off, I loved taking my cat to see Dr. Holt.\r \r Dr. Meussen, however, is another story. I took my cat to see her (Dr. Holt was not in that day) because she had a lesion on her back leg that was not healing and stayed moist. My cat kept licking the area and it was uncomfortable for her. Dr. Meissen came in for 2 minutes, poked the cat a bit and didn't ask questions. She gave her a penicillin shot, some antibiotics, and sent us home. Needless to say, she didn't think of performing a cytology or anything on my cat to see what the lesion was.\r \r After taking my cat to another vet for a second opinion, it was determined my one year old cat had a mast cell tumor that, thankfully, had few malignant cells. A biopsy and one recurrence later, my cat is healthy and more active and happy.\r \r I was very disappointed with Dr. Meussen's flippant attitude about what I had told her about my cat and the unusual characteristics of her lesion. Awful experience. I took my cat in who had been obviously injured (tail hanging limply, bruising, NO scratch or bite marks) Firstly the staff acted like he was the only cat to not want to leave his carrier and made me question if they had ever dealt with cats before. After this Dr Meeusen came in, asked us ZERO questions poked him a bit and prescribed us antibiotics. (totally unnecessarily) 5 minutes and $70 later We went home feeling completely unsatisfied and after a few minutes on the internet I was able to diagnose my cat with a dislocated tail. When not treated immediately this is very serious as damage to the nerves causes bladder and bowel problems. (He hadn't peed since his injury). The Staff here is obviously ignorant and I would strongly recommend that you DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! maybe they're better with dogs..... more

I totally disagree with Sara. We moved to Ohio from Jension and we miss Dr Holt and his staff so much! Even the animals can sense he cares about them and love him. I went to Jenison Animal Hospital for over 10 years and can tell anyone it is the best vet around. Dr Holt made trips during the night, he's met me at the hospital for emergencies, gave me his home phone number in case of problems after my cats surgery etc. He goes above the call of duty - he doesn't charge you extra for unecessary stuff - he is a true Doctor wanting to cure and care for his patients. I visited the hospital daily when my cat was sick (in the back room) and never saw anything like Sara stated. If you want high prices to pay for a fancy building this vet is not for you - Dr Holt is not there to impress the humans with fancy decor - he is there to doctor the animals and is the best in my opinion. more

A fairly good place. Prices are reasonable compared to other veterinary offices. Hours are great too, especially for those who work hours like 9-5. Good boarding. The workers love to play with the dogs and cats and give them attention. Out of preference I would rather have any surgery (spay/neuter or declaw) done on a Thursday but Dr. Meeusen, but that's just my personal preference. The building is older and could use a fresh paint job and a new roof but otherwise is in fairly good condition. Like Sara pointed out, the roof does leak a bit but that's because it's a flat roof and it only leaks when the snow melts. Otherwise the staff is very friendly and know what they are talking about and doing. I would suggest this place for anyone who needs a cheaper vet than the one they are currently seeing. more

I had a 1st hand look into Jenison Animal Hosp,& what I saw there would shock most animal lovers. The leaking roof in the surgery area, Dogs kicked out of the way by the doctor, dogs hooked up on the outside of cages that where there all weekend like that for boarding, and the worst thing I saw was a dog being declawed on all 4 paws, with no pain medication. I could go on & on, but hopefully who ever thinks about taking their loved pet there, will rethink it. more

I just had my puppy's ears done and a microchip implanted also. Everyone is so nice there. They were very kind to Cooper and took very good care of him. \r Dr Holt is wonderful with all of the animals that come there, and his staff is great also. more

This vet offers complete medical and surgical service. They are a family pet care facility. Doctor's hours are by appointment, but they also have regular hours as well. They offer boarding and bathing services too. I would highly recommend this vet for your animals. more
