Best

As stated in other reviews, Jalapenos is in an odd location next to a Christian bookstore and a Dollar Tree...

Worst

Mexican/Spanish cuisine for people who like non-spicy, tasteless dishes. No hot sauces or anything spicy...

Gourmet mexican food, artfully done 2/1/2007

I essentially agree with everything JB wrote. Jalepenos to me is completely unique and offers a much more sophisticated and nuanced take on the standby Mexican fare. Entrees range from beef, fowl and seafood prepared in various artful ways, a mole sauce to die for, and an attentive and friendly waitstaff intent on providing an experience that transcends the chips 'n salsa joints. If you are looking for a good 'ol Tex Mex comfort food experience, check out El Toro Bravo over near downtown on West Street. If you want something truly unique; something that takes a new look at a well-worn culinary genre - you would be remiss not to give Jalepenos a shot. more

Good food but not like any Mexican food I've had. 11/13/2005

I visited this restaurant while in Annapolis, Maryland. I saw the sign while out driving and being a Texan was wondering how good the Mexican food this far North could be. Outside it looked like an ordinary strip mall Mexican restaurant. As soon as I walked in the door I could tell it wasn't going to be what I expected. This place is more of a fine Spanish dining establishment than a Mexican restaurant. They didn't even bring chips and salsa when you sit down. What they brought was some type of crusty bread with butter. This was a first for a "Mexican" restaurant that I've been to, and believe me, I've been to quite a few. I had chicken with a tequila cream sauce. I couldn't taste any tequila at all in the sauce. Still, it had a good flavor. Some might find the cost a little intimidating too. The average cost of each entrée was close to or above $20.00. The service was good, however. My waitress was very attentive. The verdict: If your looking for good Mexican food at a reasonable price, pass this place up. If you want somewhere to "Wine and Dine" a date, this is the place for you. more
