Ignored by Wayne the bartender. 4/27/2009

I walked into the small back bar at about 12:10 Monday afternoon. I sat at the bar (the only guest at the bar) and looked toward Wayne. After a few minutes of watching him walk back and forth, he looks at me and says ""Hi"" from a distance. He then continued doing what ever it was he was doing. After waiting for 10 minutes, I got up and walked outside.\r \r I met up with a friend and we went back to the bar. At 12:30 we got served. No napkin was given. We were charged by the pint even though there weren't any pint glasses, just small plastic cups. After drinking half the cup, he topped it off. He then went to the other end of the bar and leaned over the bar talking to Chelsea the waitress who was sitting on a bar stool. There was dust on the hanging lights. Robin the manager instructed him on how to turn on the beer cooler. It was a very unprofessional experience.\r \r We then went across the street to Waves. We sat down at 1:01 and were served at 1:02 by Gizelle with napkins placed in front of us, with other people at the bar! Waves is a better establishment. \r Pros: Wayne was breathing. Cons: Wayne ingored me. more

new chef and menu 4/8/2009

Went to jacks where new chef gianluca unveiled new menu. How disappointing!!! The crabcakes where standard fair at best, soup was cold and entree took 35 minutes with empty restaurant.Manager was rude when we indicated unhapiness with experience.Tommy put his name on this and it was embarrasing. Good luck!! Pros: not crowded Cons: worse than before more

Loud RAP Music 11/13/2008

The food is ok, but your dining experience will quickly be ruined by the loud rap music being played. Parking is also a pain, but the loud rap music is intolerable. Pros: There are other good restaunrants near by that don't play loud raps music Cons: loud rap music more

Horrible 7/26/2008

Horrible service and wait staff. Hostess sat us at a table and we were never approached again. After waiting 20 minutes we left and will never return. Tables around us were complaining about the horrible food and service as well. Too bad...prior to a change in owners, Jack's used to be a great place to dine. Pros: Waterfront Cons: Horrible service and food more

Must to avoid. 7/5/2008

Add another disappointment to the Detroit east-side restaurant scene. The waterfront location is a big plus and a big draw, but everything else is atrocious. Our recent experience mirrors that of the previous post -- indifferent service (""I'd like a Labatt's Blue."" ""OK, a Labatt's Light?"" ""A Labatt's Blue."" ""Oh. OK."") and truly awful food. I ordered beef medallions, posted on the menu above a very specifically worded paragraph setting the house standards of doneness for beef. I ordered it medium-rare, which should have been pink-to-red, with a cool center, and it came well done -- not a hint of pink, and the sauce, advertised as a port-wine reduction, looked like canned gravy. The roasted potatoes tasted like they'd been sitting in the warmer for three days, and even the salad was just OK. I got the impression the money and effort went into the outdoor swimming pool/bar, but the single bar-food item we ordered (onion rings) were just as bad. I think we ate two. The waitress, taking away our half-eaten entrees, made no inquiries about whether we were satisfied. \r \r A member of the management team was table-hopping and talking to customers, but bogged down at the one next to ours and never made it over. By this point we just wanted to put the place behind us.\r \r Gordon Ramsey would fire the staff, redecorate and start from scratch. Listening him dress everyone down would be something I'd tune in for. Pros: Location, location, location Cons: Everything else. more

Epic Disaster of a Restaurant! 6/23/2008

My boyfriend and I went here this past Saturday and what a let down. The service was below average. We waited almost 15 minutes to get some water. The food was terrible. I have never had the sides that don't compliment the main protein. The boyfriend literally spat out his chicken. Trying to make the best of this worst situation, I wanted to order a drink. Guess what, they don't have drink menus!!! On top of that, it took another 15 minutes to get my cough syrup tasting drink. Then I decide maybe dessert will redeem this establishment, but boy was I mistaken, not to mention that our waitress informed me that my dessert was served to another table. I couldn't get myself to take more than a bite out of the horrible so called brownie dessert. They hesitated to remove the item off of our bill. \r If we had brought our boat here, I would have been so enraged. This has been the worst food establishment I went to in over 5 years. I not sure how they stay in business and what dishes everyone else ordered but never again. \r Please be for warned about this epic disaster of a restaurant! Pros: Marina View Cons: Everything else more

Jack's has some of the best seafood and fish around. 6/21/2008

The service was great and I would recommend Jack's to everyone. I would recommend the mussels and crab cakes, they were to die for. The new owners are really working hard to make this place work and to improve the quality of this place. While I was their with my family one of the owners was going around introducing him self making sure people were satisfied and if they weren't, he was trying to see what he needed to improve. I think his name was Scott and he said he has two other partners that he is working with. Pros: Food and Service Cons: Valet took a while needed to be more professional more

Don't go here if you want to leave happy 3/16/2008

We had exceptionally poor food and service. There was 3 in our party, but one of us was extremely hungary, ordering an appetizer and two entrees for himself. So our order was 2 coffees, a coke, spinach dip, 2 fish n chips, a chicken sandwich special, and a well-done bacon cheeseburger. No scratch the bacon, our waitress told us, ""they had just had a meeting and they weren't allowed to put anything but cheese on the burger anymore"", and she didn't think they had any bacon, but she would check....???, to which the bacon seeker in our party replied no that's ok I don't need bacon...it was 1/2 hour before she came back to tell us there was no fish n chips-- at this ""WATERFRONT"" ""FISH PLACE"", so very dissapointedly substitute orders were made-(a well-done mushroom swiss burger (that she'd have to see about! and perch instead) which came wrong wrong wrong and made us all sick (the only thing that was well-done, was the coffee that took about 7 mins to get cream for, my burnt and stale bun on the chick sam, and the popeye-wouldnt-like-it spinach dip...and they didnt act very nice to us about any of it, The bread was good, but it took us asking five different people for it and came very late in the meal, all in all it was a horrible struggle. more

Great service, great food, great atmosphere 8/22/2006

My Mom and I went to Jack's for dinner last Friday and had a terrific time! The mood was perfect for a relaxing dining experience with a hint of excitment as the weekend began. My Mom had the Hickory Plank Salmon and I had the Filet Mignon. Both entrees were cooked to perfection! We really enjoy dining and these entrees met are highest expectations. The service was attentive, efficient, and friendly. I will definitely visit Jack's again with friends or family.\r \r -Sarah more

Jacks is great! 10/8/2003

A real boater's paradise! This restaurant has two cabin cruisers INSIDE the restaurant as well as decorated with motors, accessories for boaters, and lots of photos of boaters, the owners and their friends, a real nautical place with a great view of Lake St.Clair. The service is top notch and the food is delicious and not priced to high. A real treat for a special occasion. more

Wonderful Atmospher 2/5/2003

Friendly atmospher, great in the summer to watch the boats come in and out of the marina. Great food!!! Pros: location, Inexpensive, valet more

Summertime all year 'round 10/7/2002

Jack's is a loud and rollicking lakefront diner. I love this place because it's a ""meet and greet"" kind of restaurant. I'd never come here to have a romantic lunch or dinner with the one I love. Great bar, okay entrees, and not too pricey. Oh, that it might be summer all year long on the shore of Lake St. Clair! Pros: Tiki Bar, In a marina, The crowd Cons: Loud, Distracted service more
