Whenever we need (ok, want) dungeness crab, we come to Jack's. You can't get much fresher than scooping the little doomed crustaceans out of the tank and tossing them into the bo...

is it a wiggly french fry or a maggot? 7/19/2011

went to the market with my sons, we stopped at Jack's Fish Spot, ordered 2 large fish and chips then sat down at counter, my 13 year old noted the MAGGOTS WRITHING ON FLOOR--that alone, pretty damn sick !! while waiting for our 20 bucks worth of fish and chips (2 ""large"" orders) one gentleman working there questioned why we were sitting there at counter,(DUH.......WAITING) i was very polite though felt he was a complete jackass, sadly my impression of this fellow was confirmed when he supplied to us ONE, grotesque overly drenched in oil ""fish"" an chips, mentioned to him we ordered 2 large fish and chips, he glared at me then said he wanted to see receipt, no problem, handed over to him the proof of our purchase , he stared at it and muttered ""weird......"" then reluctantly delivered our other order of fish and chips, we were extremely courteous, bussed our own counter of course, can understand people being short with customers during lunch rush, have worked food service 15+ years, yet this was nasty, rude, jerk behavior accompanied w/ maggots squirming beneath lunch counter, rude and unsanitary, yuck...... more

Best Oysters in the Market 2/2/2009

If your idea of a good meal includes a white tablecloth then you will definatly want to avoid Jack's. I you are looking for a good meal of fried fish, clams or oysters then you will want to stop here. It is my 1st choice for lunch in the market. Yes they are greasy, but isn't that why we eat them? I come here mostly for the oysters. Pros: Quality oysters and chips Cons: Stools and small counters can be difficult for some more

Worst fish & Chips 8/17/2007

My husband and I came to this tiny spot after having read many great reviews about it, and it was the total opposite of what we read. The fried oyster was fried to the point of being burnt and not eatable. My fried fish was better but I had better fried fish at a Japanese restaurant in the nearby Chinatown. The fries were terribly greasy and mushed together--- just gross. The clam chowder was okay but nothing worth a second try. My seafood stew was again terrible-- lots of not so fresh vegetables with a taste of bad seafood and was having a hard time to find the seafood in the soup. Pros: It is located at a great tourist place in Seattle--the Pike Place Market Cons: Dirty environment, terrible food more

best dungeness crab around! 8/6/2003

Jack's Fish Spot seems to be a mirror of the Pike's Place Fish Market at first but what you'll discover is that its much better. Why? Because they actually serve food you can EAT there! Thats right, why just get some seafood to go for home to cook when you can get a fresh steamed dungeness crab right there! Average weight of the crabs is approx. 2lbs. So darn good. Also, try their cioppino. It is excellent as well. The only thing that wasn't too good was the oysters in my opinion. Too much of the sea is not a good thing. Other than that...EXCELLENT food. The seating isn't wonderful, but hey, how can you get a market feel without sitting in a market! Just like fisherman's wharf in San Francisco. Pros: price, freshness, ambiance Cons: parking more

Must eat here 1/2/2003

I make it a point to never miss eating here while I am in Seattle. In the heart of the Public Market. Wonderfully fresh seafood prepared right there before your very eyes! No frills--just plain good eating and the price is right. Outstanding ""steamers"" and the fish and chips are great. More of a take-out place than a restaurant: funky counter seating only but it's part of the experience. Don't miss it. more
