Always respond quickly whenever I call with a problem, and they are always very friendly.

I love these guys. I have been renting off of them for 4 years now and now am moving to another building. they always fix the stuff i ask them to and although the buildings arent beautiful they work and are worth the price. they stay out of my business and you dont hear from them unless you call them, which i love. I will prolly stay with them until i buy a house in the next couple years. more

Great company easy to deal with! more

Have not received security deposit despite being told they were putting it right in the mail. They will not release proof I rented from them (which I desperately need) because I was not on the lease, despite my always paying my individual share in my own name, but said to get someone who was on the lease to collect my personal financial records, which comes across as pretty shady. Also indicating how they will happily take your money without enforcing the legal aspects. Add continuous loss of hot water and faulty electrical outlets they could not seem to fix, and they are not at all worth the reasonable rent. Go with Lobos for that ballpark, you'll have better luck.\r more

Great company to rent from! 10/19/2009

I've read these other reviews and I think it's clear that only the people who have had bad experiences have written reviews. I rented with the JJ Land Company for just under 2 years and have a lot of close friends that did as well. I'm not going to say we never had a maintenance issue but when we did we reported it and received maintenance man if not that day, the next. The only time something was left unrepaired in our apartment was when parts were needed. I never had a problem with any of the office staff and would definitely rent and refer friends to this company. Pros: Friendly office staff, timely maintenance Cons: Older style apartments.. but that's Pittsburgh! more

RUN FAR, RUN FAST 8/5/2009

These are the worst human beings on the planet. They entered my home every day for 3 months. They got into my liquor cabinet, they moved my furniture. When I complained, they peed (yes, PEED) all over my toilet seat and blamed it on my cat. When I complained again, they SENT A WOMAN TO BEAT ME UP. I am not joking. I am not exaggerating. They personally (in their own vehicle, and escorting the woman into my home, using their master key) brought this woman into my home so that she would beat some sense into me. I had to have a fist fight in my own doorway to keep my own home. I had to move that night in order to maintain sanity. When the police questioned them, they claimed not to know the woman, even though they were the people who let her in, AND THEIR AGENT SAT THERE AND LAUGHED WHILE THIS WOMAN ATTACKED ME. . In court, they claimed that I had made threats to them that I DID NOT make (I DID ask them to not enter my apartment. I DID cite the landlord-tenant act, they DID NOT CARE). I was told that if I wanted priivacy, I should buy a house, and that since they owned the property THey could enter any time they liked. THESE ARE THE WORST HUMAN BEINGS IN THE WORLD. STAY FAR AWAY. NEVER RENT FROM THEM. Pros: NEVER RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE Cons: The send people to beat you up. NO JOKE. more

Great Experience with JJ Land Company 1/6/2009

I am a student and resided with the JJ Land Company on two different occasions. I enjoyed both of the apartments that I stayed in. There were a few maintenance problems but they were taken care of very quickly. The maintenance guys were very friendly and the office staff were very easy to talk to. The prices were much more reasonable than I found with a lot of other rental companies. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay in both JJ Land apartments and would definitely recommend them to anyone. Pros: Office and Maintence staff, rent, apartment, parking more

RUN FAR, RUN FAST!!! 12/3/2008

One star because it won't let me pick zero. This is the worst management company in the world. The staff are rude, they lie, and the apartments - well, you might as well sleep on the street. The office is way too busy for them to actually listen to you. The phones are ringing off the hook all the time, and so the staff tell you whatever they need to to get you out of their face. The only time they are helpful is when they want you to sign the contract. After that, you are a pariah who damn well better pay the rent, whether the apartment is livable or not. The maintenance staff are very nice guys, but they have never, ever fixed anything. The things they have attempted to fix have been done with rubber cement and duct tape. I could have done a better job while drunk. If I had built a shack out of scrap metal behind a dumpster somewhere, it would have been a better decision than living with JJ Land. STAY AWAY!!!! Pros: Well I didn't die from exposure, so I guess the apartment had a roof. Cons: Liars. Theives. The rudest people you can imagine, and the apartments are pits. more

Nice Job! 9/25/2008

Well, I must say! It seems that my experience with the JJ Land Co. has been a completely different one than the other persons posting on this site. The apartment building we lived in (myself and college roommate) sure it was an old building, but in there lies its character. Over the coarse of the three years we've spent living with JJ Land we had a few maintainance issues. Leaky faucets, actually our furnace went in the middle of winter, stuff like that, but they were alway prompt to send a crew over to take care of it. When our furnace went out it was on a sunday. We called the emergency line and within a short period of time the pilot was re-lit and warmth had been restored. I would recommend checking these guys out if you're in the market for an apartment. Oh yeah, PS, the office staff is really easy to get along with. Nice people, easy to talk to, and in my opinion they can be pretty funny. Pros: Property locations, nice office staff, prompt maintainance. Cons: Older buildings, landscaping isn't very good. more

AVOID!!!!!!!! 1/25/2008

everytime i write about them, i feel that i'm about to have a heart attack. therefore, please visit the website (this won't let me post the websites link) "landorslum" to read my post (the last one) and many other VERY unhappy renters... Pros: nothing at all Cons: EVERYTHING more

Avoid entirely!! 12/25/2007

I can't imagine a worse landlord!! My roommate and I live on the top floor of a three story building rented by J.J. Land and it is FREEZING all the time!! We suspect that the foundation of the house shifted at some point and then they did nothing to insulate the place from the shifted floors. The floors and walls do not meet correctly. In the hall it is clear that at one point it was hardwood and a board broke so they just put a carpet down, you can still feel the spot where the board is caving in. We can feel a draft from the fireplace that is insulated with STEEL WOOL. We asked to have the shower recaulked which was apparently done by a twelve year old since there was caulking on the floor of the bathroom and in the toilet. Before we moved in they must have caulked over mold because we tried cleaning the bathroom the first day and the mold won't come off. The apartment wasn't cleaned AT ALL before we moved in. The carpets were disgusting and it was clear that the previous tenant had an animal, which I'm allergic to. In the lease it specifies an animal security deposit so they can have the carpets cleaned, which they CLEARLY didn't do and just kept the money! We asked to have a dresser removed from the apartment when we had our walk through at the end of August, the dresser stills sits in the building and it's nearly January. We were told that our $300 gas bill wasn't high at all even though we can feel drafts from the floorboards and fireplace. Our apartment consists of only two bedrooms, a kitchen, a SMALL bathroom (as small as my closet), and a living room.... clearly the gas bill is too high! We keep the temperature at 65 when we're there and 62 at night and when we leave. For three months we went without any lighting in our stairway, which gets PITCH black at night because we're on the third floor. Apparently our safety wasn't a big concern to J.J. Land. If there is anything I can suggest, it's to stay away from any of J.J. Land's properties!! Pros: It's sad to say but I can't really think of any. Cons: Not friendly, will not get things done, only care about the money more

Worst property management company ever 11/9/2007

Considering renting from J.J. Land? DON'T DO IT!!!!! I've never had a landlord as bad as these guys. The status of the apartment was misrepresented to me (In the "renovated" bathroom, the enamel on the toilet had worn off; the tub had been caulked and is molding and they painted the tub. Our rent is high, we also pay electric (heat). The apartment is poorly insulated. It has two non-functioning fireplaces, and they haven't been sealed. Both the front and back doors are sketchy. In the front, you can see daylight around the lock and the back one is almost half an inch off the floor. The holes in the floor, where there used to be gas radiators, also let cold air in. The week we moved in, our bathroom ceiling collapsed 3 times. It took fourteen phone calls to get it fixed. When I expressed my concerns about mold, which I could see on the lathe behind the ancient plaster, the toothless repairmand said it wouldn't be a problem. His solution? Clorox Clean-up. He sprayed kitchen cleaner into my ceiling and called the problem solved. In addition, our entire apartment has two circuits. Due to the expense of the electric furnace and the ineffecient insulation, I purchased a small (six inches square) space heater. We tripped the circuit and when we called JJ Land they arrived in a speedy 16 hours. Our fuse box is locked in the basement, we don't have a key. Who wires an entire apartment on two circuits, then refuses to show up and fix it when we flip them. Jeff, the owner, told us we weren't supposed to have space heaters. That's not stipulated in our lease (believe me, I checked) and this apartment is fricking freezing! All this has occured within the first three months of our lease. I can't wait for the next nine. Rant over. The point is: DON'T RENT FROM JJ LAND COMPANY. The rent is unreasonable, the buildings are dirty, improperly maintained and you (as a tenant who has rights) will not be respected. Anyone is better than them. Trust me. Pros: The office staff represents the property positively Cons: They're lying more

Enjoy renting from a slum lord. 9/4/2007

I've really enjoyed watching my apartment fall apart over the last 3 years. What a crappy operation J.J. Land is running. Tub/shower was moldy when I moved in, they promised a new tub. That was 3 years ago. Never got a new tub. Got a shabby caulking job on the old one from a maintenance man who had no idea how to use a caulking gun. Recently, a leak in the plumbing in the apartment upstairs could have been fixed when it first started dripping into my apartment downstairs. I've called almost every day for 3 months about this leak. Instead of a plumbing problem, it's now a mold problem. Mold in the walls, carpet. Everywhere. You can smell it. And they're not doing anything about it. Always promises. Always "Oh, yeah, sure. We'll take care of it." Nothing ever gets taken care of. The people who used to live on the top floor of our building got mad and moved out because the roof on our building was leaking. And J.J. Land refused to ever fix it at all. The whole place is falling apart. They only care about collecting those checks. Terrible company. more
