Great Salon, but Fabulous Stylist....... 8/9/2007

I've been going to J. Stevens for a couple of years now. What a lovely place to relax, enjoy an afternoon, and leave looking just fabulous. Salon is clean, staff is professional, service is ON POINT! I have been going to MARIANNE K. as my stylist for many years 5+. Prior to that I was on Newbury St., Kenmore, everywhere...I have course, curly, pretty hair, but noone could cut it and the color always looked brassy and overprocessed. One day I ran into someone in the parking lot of Bread and Circus. She had the most beautiful hair I had ever seen. Her hair was cut beautifully and the color was phenomenal. I HAD to have her hairdresser. I ran to her like a wild woman. Soon I was in MARIANNE'S chair. There I will stay. If you want the greatest color and cut you've ever had from the ultimate professional - call Marianne NOW! Your days of "hairdresser shopping" are over!! Pros: Always received exactly what I wanted/great value Cons: NONE more

When I moved here from L.A. I did not know that my hairdresser would be the person I missed the most. And, until I found Jonathan and J. Stevens, I had spent a long time looking for a good "fit". Warning 3/14/2007

I went to this salon because I saw all the great reviews on this site. When I got there I could immediately tell this wasn't the kind of place I go to and the clientelle was a little older (everyone there was 40's and up). My stylist was definetly the nicest one I've ever had and really wanted to make sure I got the cut I wanted, but I have to say I was dissapointed. I think this is a great salon for people 30+ but if you're looking for something a bit younger and hip I would reccomend going elsewhere. I actually stayed thinking I'd get a cheaper cut, but I ended up paying the same as I do at my favorite Newbury St. salons. more

GREAT cuts! They listen to you and know what is best! 2/8/2007

I recently went to J. Stevens Salon after reading the GREAT reviews on Citysearch. I've never seen such great reviews and a 10 rating!! Jonathan did my hair and is AMAZING!! He listened to my concerns and gave me his expert opinion. He knew exactly what I wanted and I walked out of there looking how I've always wanted my hair to look. Finally, I have found someone! I have been to numerous hairdressers in Boston over the last 5 years - Newbury St. and all. Jonathan is the best! He give great tips too - blowdrying, color etc. A true expert... Amazing Service and Outstanding Staff 9/30/2006

This is the Best of Boston. I do not care what anyone else says or what other salons are touted as the place to be. The staff here is phenomenal and they want to work with you. You are never an inconvenience and always welcome. There is nothing like having a stylist who wants to be working on your hair. From color to cut to products, they are honest and forthcoming. They want you to be happy and will bend over backwards to make sure that you are. I have been to dozens of salons form Manhattan to LA and I never get better service than that at J Stevens. Go there and I guarantee you will never be disappointed. Pros: Easy Parking unlike anywhere else and a staff that clearly loves what they do Cons: Hard pressed to find one more

This is an amazing place. I have never had such an wonderful time. I made the mistake of trying a Newbury Street salon simply because I was in town and it was the place to be. Do not waste your time!! Go where the service is great and the staff will truly work to please you. I cannot believe their attention to detail and their determination to see you leave happy. It is the best place to go for a color, cut or just a boost to your self esteem. Pros: Everything...there is nothing that does not excel more

One of the Best Facilas in Boston 8/25/2006

I have been getting facials since I was 14 and was searching for someone that used a more European method. After trying all the pricey salons on Newbury and the suburbs, I finally found Mia. She recently sold her place and joined J Stevens. If a Saturday is what you are looking for, book far in advance. Expect a great facial and fabulous skin without the high-pressure sales pitch. Gorgeous Summer Blonde 5/31/2006

A couple weeks ago i was out at a restaurant in Waltham, we were waiting at the bar for our table and the bartender's hair was gorgeous. the kind of hair you see on a California surfer type of girl. i commented how lucky she was to be a natural blonde and she smiled and said that she really wasn't. she told me she had found this guy named Jamie about a year ago on Citysearch, and that he had been doing her hair ever since. she got me his business card out of her purse and said that i was not the first to ask about her hair. i called and made an appointment and he was great- he did a partial foil and cut. Best Salon Around 5/31/2006

I am a loyal J. Stevens Salon client. When my hairdresser moved to NYC several years ago I did not get my hair done for almost a year because I didn't think I would ever find anyone as good as he. Thank-goodness a friend recommended Jonathan at J. Stevens. I am now a loyal Jonathan client, and I found out that my old hair dresser is back in Boston! Haircare and comedy all at one stop 5/2/2006

I moved to the Boston area from NY 5 years ago and have searched high and low for a colorist who would add depth to my blond hair instead of bleach. I am thrilled to know I won't have to look any further. Jenny managed to make my hair look naturally blond for the first time since (lets just say since I'm 30). Everyone in the salon was genuine and pleasant to be around. I normally hate to have my hair done, but I'm looking forward to going back soon. more

Jamie did an incredible job on my hair.... 4/24/2006

I saw J. Stevens listed on Citysearch, and because of all the great feedback i decided to try it out. Jamie did a partial foil and cut and it came out great ! He recommended two colors to create a more dimensional effect, and put a toner between all the foils, to fix my faded ends. My hair is long and he is the first stylist that did not want to chop it all off. During my consultation he suggested i add some long layers, and trim off a bit from the length to make it healthy. The next day everyone at work said my hair looked fabulous. i am so happy i had to write a review -- Now i know why there are so many great reviews for this salon. - Kerrie Pros: price very affordable, free parking, friendly Cons: none more

Jenny saved my hair! 2/24/2006

My experience at J. Stevens was fantastic. Although I had never been there before, Jenny was very accommodating with her schedule to fit me in to fix a bad coloring job that another salon had done. She made me feel right at home and miraculously fixed my hair in no time at all. Jenny was great, and everyone at J. Stevens was equally friendly (they even gave me cookies to munch on while my color processed!). I am definitely going back for my next cut and color. more

Great Hairolor and Atmosphere ! 2/1/2006

my stylist moved to a new salon and i have never felt so comfortable in a hair salon in all my life. Everyone was chatting like a bunch of old friends Jamie B did my highlights and cut and it came out great. my hair is so shiny and feels healthier than it has in a long time. The owner, Jonathan was very welcoming to me even though he wasn't doing my hair. It was so nice to go to a salon where there is not the stuffiiness and pretention i have experienced in the city, for twice the price. i parked my car in a lot behind the salon, no meters no worries... A Great Find!!! 1/29/2006

I switched here after traipsing down to Newbury Street for far too long and am tremendously pleased with the results. My colorist is Jamie Byrne, a skilled, patient and considerate stylist. For anyone in the Newton/Brookline/Wellesley area, the location is ideal, with free parking and easy accessibility. But the best is the talent, attention, and kindness of all the staff. Highly recommended. more

Excellent Color 1/22/2006

When asked, I simply say, "Oh, I've always been a blonde." Now, what I don't say is that I have plenty of childhood pictures of a little blonde me, but that my color now gets a boost from Jonathan. Ok, it may be a little more than a boost. They are color perfectionists and I have always been extremely happy with the results. Additionally, I have never been any good at picking a hairstyle to suit my face and body type. J Stevens has always provided individualized style advice that is just the right cut and shape for me.
