MARIANNE is amazing!!! She has been cutting my hair for over 20 years. I have followed her from salon to salon and believe me it's worth it! Marianne specializes in color and I call her my color chemist! Marianne is a great stylist and I love her flexibility! Would highly recommend Marianne! more

great haircut 3/30/2011

I had the same hairdresser for 25 years and then I moved to Boston-needless to say finding someone to cut my hair was a priority - and a challenge, I tried at least 4 salons and suffered through some awful haircuts before I found Jonathon atJ. Stevens. He is a master...great haircut every time. I highly recommend him! more

I like this place 2/24/2011

I have been going to Marianne for haircolor for the past 8 years. I always get complimented on my hair color, which is all I need to know that she's doing a great job! Recently the guy who cuts my hair (at another salon) was unable to fit me in, so I let Marianne cut my hair. She gave me a great hairstyle, and again, compliments from others lets me know I'm not the only one who thinks so. more

My favorite and only salon 11/24/2009

I am a busy and disorganized guy. For a while I would only think to get my hair cut when I had a function to attend or when one of my colleagues said "maybe you should get a haircut." In those instances I would walk in to see Jenny and ask (beg?) her to please cut my hair. She always found a way to fit me in. However, being a very bright young woman, Jenny found a better solution. Jenny suggested that she could schedule my haircuts for me and call when necessary. It has worked quite well. I look forward to getting my hair cut there. Everyone is friendly and fun to talk to. Great Salon 11/16/2009

I've been going to J. Stevens Salon for many years. I was always happy with my hair, but when I met Jenny, I learned what a truly talented stylist could do. She is the one and only stylist who understands how to do my hair. She allows room for my opinion but is always honest with her ideas, which I appreciate. She will work with you to get the best result and I am very happy she's my stylist. Pros: Great music, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and candy! Cons: none more

Finally, a great salon for the whole family 11/12/2009

After moving here from NYC, I spent nearly 2 years trying different salons. Until I found Jenny at J Stevens I couldn't find the right hair cut, a place I was comfortable in and a a reasonable rate. Jenny's been cutting my hair now for nearly 2 years and I wouldn't go any where else. Every time, the cut is right and lasts. I get more complements on my haircuts than ever before and I truly enjoy seeing her and the J Stevens staff every time. My 15 year old daughter quickly became Jenny's customer too and wouldn't trust anyone else either. Pros: Easy, friendly, great rates Cons: Can't think of any more

Fabulous & Fun 11/9/2009

The staff at J Stevens Salon are fun, funny and fantastic. I love my stylist Jenny she is the best!!! The atmosphere is clean and sleek. There is always a ton of reading materials and candy, yummy! I never feel as if they push products - I hate that. They are open, engaged and real. This is Newbury Street worthy with a working persons prices and atmosphere. Make an appointment, it'll be the best thing you did today. more

I Love My New Stylist 11/6/2009

JENNY- all I have to say!!! I am so incredibly pleased with my haircut. I have gone to several different hair salons, but with no luck finding an individual who would cut/color the way I want, or even close for that matter. I was so impressed with the way Jenny had cut my sister's hair (the color is beautiful too) that I made the appointment two days later. It has been about two weeks now and everyday I wake up I look forward to the way I will be styling my hair that day. Jenny took her time to help me find the perfect colors (I am extremely picky) and I cannot thank her ENOUGH for her fabulous sense of style, WHAT A TALENT!!! I found my permanent hair dresser, and I am so excited and relieved!Thank you Jenny, keep up the amazing work!!!! These reviews are very misleading 11/4/2009

I found this salon on Citysearch and decided to try it because of the high ratings. However, I can only guess that these are fake reviews posted by the salon. This place is geared toward clients in the 50+ age range especially older men. The woman who cut my hair, while very friendly, hasn't kept up-to-date with hairstyles, cutting, or blowdrying techniques. My hair looked flat and nondescript when I walked out so I went home afterwards to wash and restyle it myself. I was hoping at least that the shape of the cut would be decent but even that looks misshapen and off. Again, very nice people but not the place for a good haircut if you are under 50y or a woman. A salon who has become an extended family member 11/3/2009

I love this Salon! My only regret is that my schedule does not allow me more time to spend there to enjoy all the services that they offer. The staff is very welcoming and very attentive, you can feel that from your very first appointment. Make an appointment and have J.Stevens salon become an extended family member, you won't regret it! An awesome haircut 8/17/2009

I have been going to Jenny at J Stevens salon for years now. She is always willing to share her ideas for coloring and cutting my hair when I'm not sure what I want. Jenny is cute and funny and a real joy to go to to get my hair done. I recommend J Stevens and Jenny to anyone who is looking for someone new or is just looking for a change!! I hate having to find a new hair stylist. A couple years ago I turned to Citysearch to get recommendations for someplace in Newton and made an appointment at J. Stevens Salon to give it a try. I SO lucked out! As others have raved, Marianne Kaltsunas is a wonderful stylist, colorist, and just an all around fun person to chat with while she works her magic on your hair. Best Hair Salon 7/18/2009

I have been loyal to J Stevens salon for two years since Marianne transformed my hair. I entered J Stevens salon humiliated by bleached out hair which caused severe breakage. I had gone to several salons before J Stevens which were over priced and destroyed my hair. Marianne turned my practically white hair into a beautiful head of natural blonde hair with chocolate brown low-lights. To this day my hair is very healthy and beautiful, not to mention my broken hairs have grown in well. Marianne has always left me satisfied because she listens to what I want and gives me advise to better my decisions. Whether you are looking for a new cut, style or color Marianne at Stevens Salon is the hair dresser for you! more

I love my hair...after I leave J. Stevens! 2/1/2009

Jenny has been cutting my hair for the past five years. She makes me feel so welcomed and always gives great advice when I am looking to try something new. Mia gives the best facial I have ever had and M.J. is just like the rest of the salon when it comes to not cutting corners with the nails and toes. I always look forward to how great I will look when I leave. I highly recommend Jenny and all the salon staff for all your beauty needs. Might be good, but not willing to provide initial consult?! 8/20/2008

This might be a great place, but I'd never know since they don't provide consultations on cuts/color. I'm seeking a new stylist and feel that it's extremely important that a salon is willing to sit down with a potential client for at least 10-15mins to discuss ideas. This is generally a service that most salons provide at no fee. It seems a bit remarkable that J. Stevens expects new customers to come in blindly and that they are so arrogant as to not extend this courtesy to potential clients. more

Very Pleased...! 5/5/2008

My co-worker came back to work one day after an extended lunch, and her hair looked incredible. She was referred to Jamie at J. Stevens. i get my hair colored every 5 weeks and it was just looking Blah.. so i decided i would give him a try. He did a base color with a few foils on the top and a haircut. and i could not believe how great it came out. i have never had shiny bouncy hair -- and now i do. he was very professional and took time to ask a lot of questions about my hair before we began. i am Very Pleased and just wanted to write a review. i highly recommend Jamie. Best Place for cut and color 10/25/2007

I found this place on City Search after having tried MANY salons in Newton and on Newbury Street. I thought it was a risk to go someplace where i didn't know anyone who had been there. I couldn't be happier I took that chance. This place is so friendly and down to earth. Jenny gives the best cuts and is fabulous with color. You always feel welcomed. They really want their customers to be satisfied with everything. I never have to wait to be taken. Everyone walks out looking really good. Run don't walk to J. Stevens. more

my stylist for life! 9/28/2007

Jamie is my stylist at J Stevens salon and I have been completely happy with the look of the cuts and highlighting he has given me. I have complete confidence in him because he has made my formerly sad and boring brown hair look beautiful! I get a lot of compliments from family and friends. Admittedly, there are plenty of salons between my home and J Stevens but I have found my perfect match here so the drive is worth it. Besides Jamie's skill, perfectionism and aesthetic sense, he is warm and open and friendly which makes the whole experience a pleasure. Stop in; you won't regret it! more
