Awesome Ice Cream, Cavernous Interior 5/13/2006

JP Licks in JP is the flagship store in an old firehouse. The ice cream is homemade and there is a rotating selection of odd flavors, including Sam Adams Cream Stout (the Sam Adams Brewery is also in JP), banana, and cucumber. The ice cream isn't cheap but it is very, very good. This location also has pretty good coffee and baked goods. There are a bunch of booths which are all crowded on hot summer nights and weekends, although if you come on a chilly midafternoon you can camp out with your newspaper and school books (if you can handlle the delighted shrieks of small children). Outdoor seating in summer for Centre St. peoplewatching. A real neighborhood hangout. Bulletin board at back, near bathrooms. more

The frozen yogurt here is really good--try the peanut butter kind if they have it at the time. The flavors always rotate, so you will never get bored! I'm told the bakery items are good too but I've never tried them. They weigh your ice-cream, so if you are into portion control, go here. If you just want a lot of ice-cream, I would not. You can't beat the variety though! more

I scream for Ice Cream at J.P. Licks. They have some of the best Ice cream in the Boston area. my favorite flaver is Rum rasion with oreos and cherrys and whipped cream. They are very nice. And very very cheap. when ever I want Ice Cream I go to J.P. licks. So if you want some go there. I just might go there right now. more

JP Licks is a great place, in an old firehouse on Center st. in JP. Good ice cream (but not as good as Toscanini's), with a large variety, including yogurt and soft serve Carvelish stuff. Baked goods in the morning, most of them range from okay to good. Bagels imported from H&H in NYC. Lots of coffee, most of it quite good as well. Fun atmosphere. Diverse group of people. Art for sale on walls. Patio during summer. Great place to meet. more

Best Ice Cream Ever! 7/26/2005

I love JP Licks and I don’t even like ice cream that much! They have the freshest, yummiest ice cream in Boston, however, and the funkiest flavors! Some of the flavors are kind of odd (virgin bloody mary, for example) but some are just amazing. This is one of my daughter’s favorite places for a quick treat. The shop is very child friendly, and decorated with crazy cows everywhere. The prices are average, not too expensive. I only wish they had more ice creams (sorbets, I guess) without dairy. They have a small sorbet selection, but it is occasionally rather boring. Since I am lactose intolerant, I can only eat child’s size cone without feeling ill. In general though, it is a great place on a hot summer day! The ever changing ice cream flavors will keep you entertained for a long time. more
