good food and service 3/1/2012

I work around the corner and live a couple of blocks from the Island, they have been my Kitchen for the last 3 years, I think I tried everything on the menu, I like it , the food is fresh and good, you will wait a bit but you get fresh food, Pete and Aida are real nice , the owner or his wife are there most of the time specialy around lunch hour working on getting the orders out as quickly as possible, I have sat at the bar stool for 3 years and I will tell you I do not want to get into the food business, anyhow it deserve a 5 stars, places like these are disappearing in America, need to support small local businesses. more

Total Chaos 2/21/2012

Don't get me wrong the food and overall service of this place rocks; most workers are fairly nice and their Salmon dishes are awesome. My sole complaint about this place is to its management. It is really evident the lack of staff every time of the day. I'm a regular costumer, so I like to introduce my friends from different sides of the town to this place. One day I decided to bring a couple of my friends for dinners so they could try their famous pitas, we had to wait in a long line for at least 10 minutes; the person behind the counter was extremely busy and taking orders over the phone on top of everything. my friends decided we should get some drinks while we waited, but apparently the cashier was the only person in the entire staff who could understand English(no offense), but is true. During lunch time the chaos is evident, you see the same person taking your food out cleaning the floor and bathrooms. I honestly don't understand why the manager/owner is always screaming. I love their food but I would love a much faster/ efficient service. more

Always Tastey and Friendly! 11/20/2011

pretty darn good 7/13/2011

I started coming to this place since I moved to area about three years ago, pretty darn good food, me and the wife have tried almost everything, she likes the salmon salad as # 1 , and I like the burger , however we have been spending a lot of time there for breakfast , pretty good specialy the egg white items, comparing to the other restaurants across the street like Barnaby and La peep, the Island is better food and better value in my humble opinion.\r The prices are pretty good, my wife noticed the lady complaining about the salmon salad price in the previous write up, I think thier prices went up from 10.99 to 14.99 for the salmon salad about 6 month ago and we checked our reciepts a couple of days ago and it has been the same price for the last 6 month 14.99, it is my wife # 1 dish.\r Anyhow we love it we bring our wine without BYOB charge, nice people behind the counter, we see the owner or his wife thier most of the time and they make sure everytime to stop and check if we need anything.\r I will give it my own rating of five bacon avocado cheeseburger, the highest. more

Unfriendly 6/11/2011

We have been going to this place because their pitas are really good. I also used to get their salmon salad but was dissapointed with they made their prices higher. For their salad its about $14.00 and you have to add $9.00 if you want the salmon. That's a $23 ridiculous salad! I asked the young man that works at the cash register and was really rude to me about it and said they changed their prices. Everytime I would talk and tell him my order, he would turn and start getting mad at the workers there. He was rude to us and the people he worked with! Very unprofessional! Unfortunately, we won't be going there anymore even though we support local businesses ;( more

Great service and awsome burger 12/8/2010

I have been going to island grill for 8 years and once a week I have the cheeseburge, it is so tasty and juicy, I love it. I am amazed at the consistancy at the island. Also I love to support local owned businesses. I will be back. more

Family Friendly Atmosphere! 7/6/2009

What I like about this restaurant is that it's KID FRIENDLY. They always keep the tv on a kids show. For the parents out there you can actually sit and enjoy your lunch/dinner with your toddler!! Pros: Fresh ingredients, Kid shows on TV more

Good healthy choices 1/23/2009

The only reason i don't give this a higher rate is because the service is SOOOOOOOOOO SLOW! You order at the counter and take your seat, which is fine, but then getting your food takes forever!!! I don't know if i have always gone at peak times, but it takes forever to get our food. I have only been there for breakfast, and the food is very good, and i love the healthy options they have, and everything has always been very yummy but they need to pick up the service. I have decided NOT to go there because of how slow they are. If I was not in a rush i would for sure go! Pros: Food, selection Cons: Time waiting for food more

Burger Heaven 12/22/2008

I just discovered this place, I live 5 minutes away and all the time I thought it was only smoothie place, I love this place, I have eaten the burger so far about 15 times inthe last three weeks, it is just flat out the best burger in Houston.\r I tried the chicken pasta which also was pretty good and big. my goal this week to try the chicken pita\r Price wise it is very good for the qulaity I am getting.\r Parking is tough around lunch hours but I manage to find one every time.\r \r In short, nice employees, great food, good prices. Pros: love the food more

I love this place, best dinner in town. 10/25/2008

I will tell you I have had many panckes and tacoes at many restaurants in Houston and other cities, I just think it is the best, they cook it fresh while you waite, the panckes are so spongy, it is great.\r My wife and I like to go to the Island ( that is what we call it ) for breakfast and dinner. the Dinner is great, I had the Angus Beef NY strip steak with fries and bread 12.99, what a deal, it was mouth watering, my wife had the Salmon over rice which she finished the whole plate, does not happen that often, I just think for breakfast and dinner this is the place to eat. Pros: great quality food, taste great Cons: need to add grits to the menu more

Great smoothie & good food 10/8/2008

I wanted to go somewhere where they had healthy food but wasn't a tofu place. I found this on this website and liked they had all natural smoothies. I had the chicken marsala and my boyfriend had the chicken pita. It was great food. Serivice could have been better cause it was our 1st time there. But we didn't have to wait long and smoothies were awesome. Pros: Great smoothies Cons: parking looks like it can be a problem more

Great food, better smoothies and great service 8/21/2008

I was introduced to the food and drinks at Smoothie Island through a friend and got to know the owner Faysal about 4 years ago. I've been eating there regularly ever since. For lunch or dinner, I like the California Fish pita or the veggie platter, but I can say that I have eaten and enjoyed almost everything on the menu. For breakfast, I recommend the egg-white omlett with salmon. Everything is fresh and cooked to your liking everytime. The smoothies are healthy and delicious. Just ask Faysal or any of his staff if you have a question about the nutritional value of any smoothie or food item on the menu. \r \r Lunch hour is very busy at Smoothie Island, but the owner Faysal makes it a point to greet you by your name if he's there and ensures his staff are taking care of you. Whether you're in a rush during lunch hour or have ample time on the weekend, the atmosphere at the restaurant is quite relaxed and family-friendly. Whether you're in your work clothes, street clothes or in gym clothes, there's always a place for you at Smoothie Island. The customers are often friendly, so don't worry about going alone. Just sit and eat at the bar, and you'll always hear a good story or participate in a good conversation.\r \r Great food and smoothies... great service. Pros: Food quality and freshness, healthy and delicious smoothies, great service more

Friendly Restaurant! Excellent Food! 8/19/2008

I was truly impressed by the warmth this restaurant offered, along with great food! Island Juice Bar & Grill must have a very loyal clientele because the owner, Faysal, greeting many of the guests by name. I had the Hanover Platter, which had Humus, Tabuleh, Avocado, and Chicken dressed with mushrooms, onions and walnuts. It was absolutely delicious! This Houston restaurant offers a rare combination of excellent food and gracious service. This is definitely now one of my favorite restaurants. I WILL be going back. Highly recommended. Oh? and did I mention they have awesome healthy smoothies? Pros: Healthy Food Menu and Vegetarian Choices Cons: Not enough Island Grill's in Houston more

Great smoothies, smiling employees, awesome pitas 6/30/2008

Great place to eat. Been going about once a week now for a couple months and the main thing i love is the consistency in my food. I usually get a strawberry smoothie with a chicken pita. Both have always been delicious and always enjoy chatting with the staff while I wait. Foods always hot and drinks always cold. I read through all the reviews and will have to agree with all of them. Parking is really a pain when its busy, but according to citysearch they deliver now so that may help. Also I was concerned similar to someone on here regarding the tomatoes. I talked to the owner and he told me sysco imports their tomatoes off the east coast so thats why he decided to continue serving them. So besides all that my only complaint would be the floors been dirty with some food twice when Ive came in. Also it was pretty hot inside when it was busy. O and a plus would also be how my son gets to play video games while I eat. So overall good place to eat. Pros: Consistensy, Nice staff, Good food and drinks Cons: Spotty floors, low parking more

it reminded me of NYC 6/25/2008

I have been coming to this place for 4 years now since I moved from NYC, I really like this place, the noise, the kids, it is a tight place but the food is great, and the employees behind the counter are very nice, the owner Fasil is very funny and you can tell loves his customers.\r \r I almost tried everyhting on the menu, my best pick is the chicken pita and the NRG smoothie, but the rest are great also, I like the fact they cook with extra vergin olive oil.\r \r I tried the Celery, Apple, tomato, Carrot, Parsley Juice which is done right infront of you, it was good.\r \r I will be back again and again. Pros: upper scale quality food in a casual ambience and good prices in a great part of Houston Cons: Parking more

NICE PEOPLE,AND AWSOME FOOD! 6/25/2008

I went 3 days ago (about my 9th time ), the food was great as usual, the employees were very friendly and made me feel like I have known them for years.I had the salmon dinner, which was excellent!I also ordered a smoothie called the Lance Burkman named after the famous baseball player;I loved it! My friend was with me and ordered the Island Salad with chicken, she ate it all.\r The owner came twice to make sure everything was Ok.\r I loved this place ,I will be coming back for sure. more

""Soup N*zi""- Sienfeld 6/6/2008

I tried it about 1 year ago, liked the food but was dissapointed by the lack of customer service. I went back a second time giving them another chance, but again I thought I was ordering from the ""soup n*zi"" -Sienfeld Episode! I went back this last time-(1 yr later) and found a consistency in the lack of customer service. They couldn't give me a total for my to-go order, no communication at my pick up, had to ask for receipt and drink holder for my multiple drinks- had to carry far to my car, bc of no close parking. Got to work with my order, which had raw tomatoes that the Texas HLTH DEPT has advised not to sell because of s*lmonella outbreak. When I called to ask what tomatoes they were sreving, they were not even sure of the outbeak, but said ""you don't have to eat it if you don't want to"". Then asked ME what tomatoes were affected. I told them I wanted my money back and would bring the food back bc I didn't want to get sick. When I walked in, I was pointed out and yelled at by the owner who denied anything wrong with product. So I gave him the article from the Texas HLTH Department showing him he was offering a possible contaminated product, but he pushed it aside. If he doesn't care about the health of his customers, I certainly do not recommend stepping into that establishment. more

Owner Message
  • Island Grill & Juice Bar is a unique, eclectic, neighborhood cafe. The name does not do our menu justice.

The cafe serves fresh food cooked with extra virgin olive oil and we use only the finest ingredients such as certified Angus beef and wild fish.

For starters, breakfast tacos in the morning are fabulous, with fresh squeezed orange juice and a cup of coffee. The veggie egg white omelet is a very popular item. For lunch, the chef recommends the salmon salad or chicken pita.

For dinner, our city famous tortilla soup, with a glass of wine and a filet of wild cod, grilled with extra virgin olive oil is an excellent choice. Also check out our Meditterean items: gyros, humus, pita, and falafel.

For dessert, the smoothies are all natural, with no sugar added. Remember our selection of fresh to order juice mixes like the veggie splash or the green wave.
