The worst service. And it's not the 11/20/2012

The worst service. And it's not the staffs fault. They have 1 server handling the bar and handling all the tables. I blame management. I work in the area and every time I come here I write it off as if the staff is having an off day but consistently it takes +45mins to get your food when you only have an hour for lunch. My office all know this about Isla and are starting to find other places to eat in the area. Management needs to have at least 2 servers and be present in the kitchen if they want the place to make it in the future. more

Great Happy Hour and Late Night Music 6/22/2010

Great place to stop and have a few drinks and a bite to eat before heading to a concert on Sunset Strip. They have DJ's on 2 or 3 nights of the week. Pros: Great food drink selection and fast service Cons: none more

Bad food, bad drinks 7/22/2009

I came here for happy hour during the week, hoping for a decent margarita and some tasty niblets and was sorely disappointed. We ordered margaritas with salt and the waitress said that they did not have the "right kind of salt" (kosher - with the large flakes, I assume?) for margaritas. Come on - you're a stinkin' Mexican resto! Get some property salt! The food was horrible - stale, sorry, skimpy little chips, water-y under-seasoned guacamole, flavorless rubbery quesadillas, and a shrimp cocktail that had the consistency of a car tire and flavor of having been frozen for about seventeen months. All in all, there are far better Mexican joints in L.A. Avoid at all costs. Pros: Semi-enclosed patio Cons: Food, drinks more

Great food music and atmosphere 5/13/2009

This is not a mexican restaruant! Bar, but food is dull 12/25/2008

I think like many reviews on this site, and the ones for this place, they are written by the restaruants staff. Come on, "my boyfriend said his lobster was fluffy!" Lobster is rubbery, not fluffy, that is the way it is. Pros: I could walk there. Cons: dull food, not too many customers, mexican place ran by a russian guy? more

fast service & good food! 12/10/2008

I've eaten here a few times and am always impressed at how fast the service is. The food is very good, and the service is excellent. The only downside is if you are eating outside, it can get noisy with the traffic on Sunset & on Holloway. It's a great place! Pros: very quick service Cons: outside can be somewhat noisy more

Great margs and fresh food 12/8/2008

We've been here 3 times and had a great experience each time. The food is fresh and reasonable and the margs are amazing. We just had house margs but they have many tequilas to choose from if that's your thing. The happy hour is a great deal. more

Unexpectedly great food for the price 11/20/2008

Everytime I come to LA I like to try a new restaurant. I love Mexican food, and Isla Cantina lived up to my expectations. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Service was quick but we did not feel rushed. I had the chicken enchiladas and they were great as they were filled with well-seasoned all white meat chicken. Previous places I have been have had the worst chicken in the enchiladas. My boyfriend had the lobster tacos and said the lobster was nice and fluffy, perfectly cooked. I definately recommend Isla Cantina. Also, we went on a Friday night at around 6 and there was no wait. Pros: Great food, atmosphere, and prices. Cons: None. more

Excellent food, great drinks - unpretentious service 9/22/2008

I have eaten at many restaurants in Los Angeles, but this one is a winner! The service is attentive, yet not stuffy and with attitude as so many Sunset Blvd are so want to be. The food is authentic Mexican cuisine, but in and of itself an art on your plate. The ambiance is cool soft rock or jazz with an awesome patio with a cool retractable roof. Great views of West Sunset and in fact had drinks while watching the sun set. Would definitely recommend to anyone for a nice evening out. Pros: Service, amneince, cuisine Cons: None more

Great drinks and even better service 9/1/2008

This is a refreshing change for Sunset bars. A bar with regular prices, (you can get great-tasting steak for only $18) and very friendly, nice waitresses. They have good music, a nice outside patio and it's not super crowded. more

Very good and reasonably priced Mexican-style food in a casual yet elegant setting. 7/25/2008

Tasty and reasonably priced Mexican-style food. Lots of appetizers in addition to a nice menu. Excellent service! The restaurant offers good views of Sunset Blvd. through its tall windows. It's a casual yet elegant place with a nicely dressed crowd (no grunge!). I can't wait to return! more

Refreshing: in food and in price-range 6/27/2008

Though it looks somewhat like a tanning salon from the outside, Isla suprised me: the interior decor is classy and chic, like any Sunset restaurant should be, and the food is delightfully inexpensive without sacrificing presentation, quality, and taste. Also, it's one of the few Mexican restaurants in this area, which is refreshing. The menu is largely seafood based, making for a lighter lunch that works well during the summer, and each dish packs spice: fiery salsa verde is offered with chips, and even the guacamole had a little heat. I specifically liked the ceviche and the colorful cabbage salad. Tacos were a lot bigger than I expected too. Service was friendly and responsive, but I have yet to come here for dinner, when I assume the atmosphere would be a little more on the bustling side. more
