Wish I hadn't gone there, bad experience 5/18/2012

The people who say this place has the best sushi in the west side or LA or even Marina Del Rey must have never had good sushi before. The food was low quality, very small rolls, poor service & communication skills (messed up two items that I ordered), and when my girlfriend and I got home we were both very sick. I threw up several times after eating there. When I called the next day to ask the manager if anyone else got sick, he kept repeating for me to go to the hospital and that he had insurance that would pay for me. I must have repeated 5+ times that I didn't need to go to the hospital but that I was simply curious if anyone else had similar complaints to know if it was serious or not and the manager was rude and unhelpful. I felt as though he thought I was trying to scam him. Not only will I never go there again but I will make sure to tell people I know not to go there. more

Best food in town 7/7/2011

Food is amazing. Every time I come here, I feel like I never want to leave. Very chic atmosphere with a relaxing mood. The service is great and the staff really does a terrific job at taking care of you. The appetizers are delicious. Theres plenty of places to park: theres a parking lot across the street and a parkin garage up the street within walking distance. Most of the time I find myself looking at my watch waiting for the food to come, but here I was so entertained with the fun atmosphere that I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived more

My Favorite Sushi Restaurant 9/19/2010

I love this place. If you are looking for amazing SUSHI this is the place. I am an avid sushi goer, not rolls but sushi. This place is hands down amazing. Masa, the head chef, has magical hands. He makes the best plates. My husband and I go here atleast 2xmonth and we always get their ""Sashimi News"" with either japanese albacore or yellowtail. The sauce is so unique and delicious. Their live shrimp is amazing, also their tempura battered shrimp or lobster with their spicy mayonaisse is also to die for! I could eat here every night! If you go, know that you are asked to take your shoes off before entering the dining room and for girls, don't wear tight short skirts/dresses b/c you sit on a pillow on the floor. I would say call ahead for reservations, and if you are going with a date, sit at the bar and ask to sit infront of Masa! You will not be disappointed! :) ENJOY!! more

Deeeee-licious! 7/5/2010

I LOVE this place! They have fresh, tasty sushi and a variety of warm options, too. Some of my favorites: Japanese albacore sushi, mushroom teppan-yaki, red snapper with plum wine sauce, Japanese eggplant with sweet miso. The friendly staff works together to make sure everyone is taken care of, and I've always felt just that. Pros: incredible albacore from Japan, creative specials Cons: um....nope more

Not baby friendly 4/10/2010

My husband and I used to go before having kids and always had a good experience there. So after having our baby, we went there again. Everyone, from the host to the waiter, gave our baby a nasty look. They ignored us, and looked pretty upset to serve us. We told the manager about it and she just frowned and grunt to us. Our poor daughter was six months at that time and never cried, so it's not like our baby was a pain in the butt for anyone in there, she didn't even move. Pros: Acceptable food Cons: Awful personnel if you go with your baby more

Very Impressed 12/7/2009

I went there for my birthday with a friend. I read the reviews before I went there so I knew what to expect. I tried good sushi all over the town and I pretty much know my sushi. So I could tell you with confidence that Irori has one of the better high quality sushi in town and you shoud expect to pay more. Try the Blue Moon cold sake. It will add flavor to your sushi and the price is reasonable. It comes in a 500 ml bottle and is just enough for 2 people. I will definitely go back when I am in the area. Pros: High Quality Fish and Chef Cons: Pricy? NO more

Awesome 9/10/2009

This place had amazing sushi, food, everything. Very fresh and crisp tasting. The atmosphere is incredible and the staff is very pleasant and helpful if you have questions. This place definitley made my sushi eating experience richer. more

Do not go here 2/18/2009

more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me, more for me more

Excellent!!! 1/22/2009

This place is wonderful. We have always had excellent sushi here and we love the ambience. There is a wait sometimes, but usually it's not very long. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for an excellent Japanese meal in the Marina. It's not very big though, so I wouldn't recommend it for parties over six. more

Great place for sushi for beginners to connoisseurs 4/6/2008

My boyfriend and I have been to Irori a number of times now. We have sat at tables and the sushi bar. There are more items you can order at the tables, but we have never left hungry! The sushi is fresh, consistently good, there is a good variety, and portions are good. There are other things to eat as well and we have been happy with everything we have tried (I love the chicken teriyaki and they even give the option for it to be all white meat). I am a little less adventurous with sushi and sashimi so it's nice to have a place that has great sushi for my boyfriend and friends who are more adventurous while I still get great food as well. Pros: Great food (in terms of taste, quality, and variety), unique environment Cons: Can have a wait (not a lot of seating), service can vary in quality, can get expensive more

Unfriendly to Children 4/6/2008

Our family enjoys Asian food and my children (11 and 12 -- not babies) have been so eager to eat at Irori and experience the fun tables. We have tried to come before and the wait was too long. We arrived at about 6:00 on a Saturday night; the place was empty and yet they asked us to return in 30 minutes. When we did so, we waited another 15 and were treated poorly. Although my kids are extremely well behaved, we felt like we were being rushed in favor of other clients received poor service from the wait-staff (had to ask for wasabi for the sushi (!)). I don't know what the ""buzz"" is. The food seemed just OK...chicken teriyaki was fatty, salads had way too much dressing but the beef (steak) teriyaki was very tender and good, though pricy. We did like the sushi, but were disappointed that there was no low-sodium soy sauce. Also, as if to prove this point, the next morning we all woke with that salty feeling in our mouths and feel bloated. We will not return here; the service, treatment and food was a definite let-down. Pros: Nice ambiance, fun tables, silk pillows Cons: Waitresses and hostess are unfriendly more

Yummy Yummy 2/8/2008

My boyfriend and I love going to Irori, we try to go at least every other week. Great Sushi, fresh fish and friendly and attentive staff. Even though we go for the sashimi I always find myself ordering a chicken udon. So if your not a sushi fan the teriyaki and udon are also great.A little pricey but definately worth the price. The ambiance is great. Don't be surprised if Bob Marley is playing over the speakers. And don't be scared to take off your shoes it just adds to the experience. Pros: Everything Cons: sometimes after 8:30pm there is a bit of a wait more

freshest sushi in los angeles 12/22/2007

Irori serves the best sushi we have found in LA. My husband and I are crazy for sushi and always searching for a place that offers truly fresh sushi in a clean, fun environment. If you lean toward simple sushi and sashimi vs. rolls filled with mayo/sauces, you know how important getting a fresh, good cut of fish is. Irori delivers time and time again. We go every Friday night and every trip is as delectable as the last. Also, a super friendly, professional wait staff and team of sushi chefs see to it that you feel welcome, are well taken care of, and have a great time. more

Amazing Sushi 3/23/2007

The place has authentic vibe and the sushi was amazing. But I have to say the best part was the sushi chef. He was friendly, very knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations. Pros: fresh sushi, great service Cons: a little pricey more

A Gem!!! 1/18/2007

My husband and I have been searching high and low for a sushi bar with fun chefs and consistently good quality fish. Our search ended at Irori. Great quality fish, nice intimate setting with tatami style seating. Prices aren't cheap, but they aren't outrageuosly expensive. Hey, you can't expect to get good quality fish at conveyor belt prices. Pros: Everything! Cons: None. more

Excellent sushi for very good prices 11/18/2006

I almost don't want to recommend Irori because I want to keep it a hidden treasure. However, it's a great restaurant and the people who work there are incredibly nice. It's stylish and elegant; a traditional interior where you sit into the floor, even at the sushi bar. The waitstaff is friendly and very attentive. The sushi is awesome! If you love sushi, sit at the sushi bar and get to know the chefs. Shige, Masa - you guys are great. Lots of other locals keep coming back. If you don't love sushi, choose from anything else on the menu. Pros: Great food, friendly staff, good price for high quality sushi Cons: None - except that the secret is getting out more

Best Sushi Ever for the money 11/14/2006

Ask for the Spicy Tekadon. What you see on the menu is the Sushi Techadon. Spicy techadon will get you that spicy tuna upgrade to die for! And if you are not completely blown away by this, try any special. They;re all so good. Pros: Food, service more

can you say yum? 11/13/2006

this place has something for everyone. if you have sweet tooth or a spicy palette, they'll have a dish for you. if you come, be prepared to take off your shoes. ...no smelly feet allowed. Pros: sashimi Cons: you'll have to take off your shoes more

My weekly romp 11/9/2006

I go to Irori all the time. The food is awesome ( try the sashimi news) and I am a food critic. I'm fat and I know good food. Pros: Great authentic Japanese food Cons: Sarah has a boyfriend (i think) more

Great Neighborhood Find 7/17/2006

Very low-key but definitely worth looking for. My hubby and I have eaten here a couple of times, since we only live 3 miles away in Culver City. We cannot get enough of their oyster shooters! A must! The staff is friendly, and the fish fresh. Plus, it doesn't cost a lot to get your fix (unlike some other sushi places where we usually spend a min. $50/pax). Some people, for some reason, get daunted when they see the ""no shoes"" policy, but that just makes it more fun! Pros: inexpensive, not too crowded, fresh fish Cons: little secluded more
