The people who say this place has the best sushi in the west side or LA or even Marina Del Rey must have never had good sushi before. The food was low quality, very small rolls, ...

What a Find! 7/15/2006

My boyfriend has heard of this place and has been looking for it for quite some time. Finally, we found the location in a hidden corner of a shopping center. We were excited to see how traditional this place is with their ""leave your shoes at the door"" policy. The atmosphere is wonderful! The staff is incredibly friendly. The food is outstanding. The price is average. Overall, a great experience. We continue to return. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Price could be cheaper more

Our go-to sushi place 6/29/2006

Ok, there's plenty of good sushi in LA. But this is the place my BF and I go at least once a week, sometimes 2x. The quality of the fish is nothing short of amazing - buttery wild salmon, albacore, the best red snapper with shiso and marinated salt, painstakenly seared escolar...you name it. Very traditional, beautiful ambiance, friendly staff (Hi Shige!). Our fave. Pros: Quality of fish, selection, lovely atmosphere Cons: Nothing more

Ahhh! 9/30/2005

To find a good neighborhood sushi restaurant is lucky...to find a great one is a feat! Sit on the floor at a table or at the bar. The fish is fresh, the menu is varied and the staff is terrific. In a neighborhood in dire need of good eats, Irori delivers. Pros: Local Spot, Super Service, Excellent Quality Cons: Sometimes Crowded, No longer a secret more

Irori: Difficult to pronounce - Easy to enjoy 9/23/2005

Some of the best Japanese food you're ever going to find. Really! And for sushi and sashimi forget Koi - Irori wins hands down. Charming, attentive servers float around you in an unhurried serene setting. Great sake offerings too. They have sake tasting ""A"" and ""B"", each of which includes 3 different sakes samples for you to enjoy and have fun deciding which one you like best. Bam! You're an instant sake connoisseur. Try the grilled salmon with ponzu sauce and chirashi bowl. Irori means ""open hearth"", the traditional arrangement were food and warmth are enjoyed. Pros: Fresh fish, Prime cuts, Premium sake Cons: The well seating is a, bit uncomfortable more

sssh...keep this one to yourself! 6/20/2005

This sushi is excellent. Traditional Japanese restaurant is an oasis from the strip-mall enclosement. In fact, I think that's part of Irori's charm. Once inside, take your shoes off and have a seat at the mahogany sushi bar. Everyone is extremely polite. We ordered a beautifully plated appetizer of Fried Calamari, 3 entrees' (sweet shrimp sashimi is excellent), and a large Asahi. Our bill was about $30. Pros: fresh fish, big selection, polite servers Cons: no delivery but, we can't have it all! more

Indeed the best kept secret in Marina Del Rey 6/13/2005

the place is beautiful...very unique. Yes, you do have to remove your shoes. I love the traditional table setting and the warm welcome from all the sushi chefs upon entering. Very Zen. An oasis hidden in a strip mall! Food is delicious. Sake is fantastic. Sashimi is fresh. Pricing is reasonable. All in all...a great place to dine since it's only 5 minutes from my place. Highly recommend. Ample parking too...which is ALWAYS important to me. Pros: ambiance, food Cons: nothing more

Great Dining Experience 5/13/2005

I was pleasantly suprised to find this restaurant in the Villa Marina Mall. Excellent fresh fish. Excellent organic salads as well. Friendly wait staff as well. A real pleasant dining experience that I plan on treasuring as soon as I have a date to go accompany me. Pros: Fresh Food, Great ambience more

once you find it - it's well worth it 3/27/2005

my friend took me to a few sushi restaurants in the area, but i wasn't very impressed by the quality and taste of fish. we found ourselves bombarded with lists of rolls and not so extraordinary fish. im now glad to say that we have found our ideal sushi restaurant in irori. we were impressed by the quality and freshness of the fish. there was a variety of rare fish we hadn't tried before...the toro, and live sweet shrimp were excellent. despite its location in a strip mall (the villa marina) we felt like we were in japan, taking off our shoes, and sitting on the wooden floors on cushions. the atmosphere was great as well. overall, i highly recommend it. i just wish i had found it sooner. Pros: fresh fish, unique atmosphere, friendly service more
