Booked with reservation with colleagues based on it being rated Best in Portland...The service was great, but the food was a huge disappointment. The calamari was great, fresh an...

Absolutley Delightful 2/8/2007

It was my turn to take out my husband. I was on citysearch looking for something new, moderatley priced and romantic. I got just what I wanted. As a restaurant manager, I am an incredibly hard customer to please. I almost always search and find the bad. There was nothing bad to find here. This restaurant had a great menu and the food was incredible. The service was gracious and the ambience was perfect. This just may be my newest favorite restaurant. I will surely be back. Pros: food, service, price, ambience Cons: None more

Wonderful restaurant, excellent food and service, good value, nice atmosphere, very reasonable prices. 1/29/2007

Even on a Saturday night, the service was wonderful. We had the chef's special ($35, 4 courses) which was well worth it. Don't waste the $7 on the two very, very small glasses of wine that went along with the special (buy a bottle instead). The wine selection is very limited so bring your own. Even thought the restaurant was packed, we didn't have to raise our voices to talk to our friends. The food was delicious and most entres were around $20. Highly recommended. Pros: good value, great food, good service, easy parking Cons: limited wine list more

Didn't live up the rave reviews I'd read 12/30/2006

I wanted to like this place -- the staff seemed nice enough, and the decor was interesting -- but the food ultimately just wasn't very interesting. And it wasn't for a lack of dishes, either. We had calamari as an appetizer and ordered two pasta dishes, but they brought out two complimentary appetizers (I assume everyone gets these) and sent us home with pizzelles. Of the free appetizers, (focaccia with butternut squash butter and some cold garbanzo dish), only the bread and butter were tasty, although not as interesting as the name suggested. The lamb ragout I had was okay, but neither fine Italian nor down-home hearty fare. The noodles were literally unevenly cooked. My wife's pasta also suffered, coming out so mushy we had to send it back (it was much better the second time, though). I'd like to think we found them on a bad night, but it'll be a while before we feel up to giving them a second chance. Pros: Lots of complimentary dishes Cons: Surprisingly off pasta texture, so-so dishes more

Great little restaurant 12/21/2006

I can't believe this place has been open a year, and it took me this long to dine there. The space is very nice and inviting, the food was very good, and the service was just right. We had the marinated Portabella mushroom appetizer, the spinach salad that was on special (easily one of the best salads I have ever eaten, seriously), the appetizer portion of gnocchi, and a vegetarian pasta dish. All were excellent and very reasonably priced. You get great value for your money - the waitress (I think Melanie) was very helpful and friendly (as were the other people on the floor), and you got the sense that everyone actually cared that you had a nice meal. With a $12 corkage fee, the bill was only $46, and we had a large portion of pasta to take home as we were full. We will definitely be going back! Pros: Good food and good service at a reasonable price more

Wonderfully Romantic 12/3/2006

The restaurant staff were all very attentive and friendly. Shortly after sitting down, we were brought very nummy dishes-- bread with squash puree and garbanzo salad-- to tempt our palates. The organic wines were great. Our main entrees were delicious and beautifully presented. We had a great time. Iorio is a great date spot and has tables suitable for a whole group of friends/family. Well done Iorio-- we will defintely be back. And happy first anniversary! more

missing creativity 10/19/2006

influenced by other 'highly recommended' reviews, my friend and i sought out this restaurant for a fabulous dining experience. well, our expectation was too high. yes, the environment was quite warm but not quite cozy. the lighting was a little too bright and the sound was bouncing all over the space. the food.....tasteful but normal. i was disappointed, though, that they used the same crust for the eggplant dish and for the apple tart. Pros: service, nice decor Cons: value more

Excellent Value for the cuisine 10/19/2006

My fiance and I have been on a mission to find a good Italian restaurant. PDX lacks in GOOD Italian food. It was so nice to find a menu that is not all pasta. Most of the Italian eateries in Portland have the same menus. We did the Chef's Tasting menu and we were very satisfied! The flavors were right on point! We've done coursed menus in NY and Vegas and you can't find a tasting menu for $30 ($7 more for 2 wines which were both very good), it was truly a great value for the price. Would've been nice if server knew more about the wines. We will definitely be back! Pros: Value, ambience, service Cons: servers knowledge of food and wine more
