Best

I've been coming to the Inn for 30 years! To me it's like my favorite old pair of jeans. It has such a comfortable feel to it.

Poor service and poor excuses ! 11/26/2011

Had not been to the Inn on Coventry for a little over a year. Thought we would give it a shot on Thanksgiving weekend and went for a late breakfast on Saturday. It was busy , but not crowded . As people came in , they were seated fairly quickly . So I do not understand why we waited approx. 30 minutes for our breakfast. When we complained after 20 minutes, our waitress said she could give us free beverages ( one juice, water and a cup of coffee ) - Gee THANKS ! The hostess who has been employed there forever , said the problem was they were breaking in a new chef -- however several people that came in after us had there food! Not sure what the issue was- poor cooking , lack of organization, poor waitress , etc. Not sure why "" we are breaking in a new chef "" should be an appropriate excuse - sounds LAME to me . However ,the waitress we had never came to our table and explained till we complained and the hostess also never commented until we complained. I guess we are not regulars and I now recall why we stopped driving there for breakfast ! Breakfast there is fair to good but not great , prices are fine but not a bargain, place is not that clean ( never was) and service is inconsistent at best ! Other good places nearby such as Big Al's Diner, Vine and Bean, Eat at Joe's, Tommy's, etc. I guess it will be another year or more till we go back again . more

Glutton for punishment? 11/29/2010

This is rated The Best in Cleveland for breakfast? Best in what? Rudeness, waiting, germs and being cramped in a matchbox? Maybe the place has changed for the worse since this won. How can I rely on Citysearch staff for good reviews? I am leery about anything else Citysearch recommends now. HORRIBLE RESTAURANT this is. It should be closed down for health reasons! more

Major Issues 9/6/2010

It was my daughter's birthday today and she asked to go out for a pancake breakfast. So, off we go to the Inn on Coventry. We had been twice before and were not impressed, but not too much to choose from nearby home on Labor Day, so we thought. hey. maybe, just maybe, this time will be different. No such luck. It apparently just gets worse. The place is dirty and unkempt. The tables are not cleaned properly between customer visits. The wait staff is rude, unreceptive and in a rush to feed you and get you out the door. My daughter's food came on a dirty plate (food encrusted on the sides and bottom of plate); the coffee was miserably weak and unsatisfying; my husband's Eggs Benedict was vile; the high chair for my infant had not been cleaned from the previous baby's meal (scraps of food and greasy EVERYWHERE - I would hate to see that thing under a microscope. When we asked that it be cleaned the manager did not think that wiping down was necessary but that it sufficed to just remove the larger scraps of food with her bare hands and proceed to the next table WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. Germ Farm! Oh, and those awesome pancakes they're known for are really just a regular pancake batter laden with melted ""butter"". They don't offer real maple syrup, not even for a price. There is no fresh orange juice and the waitress looked at me like I was alien when I asked her if they offered fresh OJ. Finally, be ready to watch a few regulars go ahead of you in line, and be sure NOT to call them on it or your visit will get worse by the minute. We are foodies and we've been around the block a few times, here at home and abroad. Suffice it to say this place is on our ""scary & stay away"" list. Pros: ""Stroller parking"" available (outside the front door of the restaurant. Apparently no one has stolen a stroller since the place opened). more

Locals Only 5/24/2010

What a great resteraunt for the coventry and cleveland heights locals. This place has not only been standing for over fourty years, but (if they like ya...) Your food will be speedy, tasty, and you'll be happy and satisfied in no time at all. For people writing negative reviews...you were probably rude first. That's the only way the ladies of the inn turn on you. Nice and polite customers get tasty food. Rude people get rubber sausage links. That's just how it is and how it should be. more

MOST OVER-RATED BEST BREAKFAST IN TOWN 11/12/2008

I have to ask .. whoever has given this place the ""best breakfast award"" .. have they actually eaten here? .. Best breakfast in town my eye! .. they continue to advertise that they offer real maple syrup but they no longer do .. they don't tell you that until after you ask for it & you have the food already .. borderline illegal (I believe the term is bait + switch?). The cramped quarters are beyond uncomfortable & the wait staff is beyond rude. They do all they can to rush you thru a meal that you wait nearly 40 minutes for so they can quickly turn the table. It is not an enjoyable way to start the morning. Tried the place twice, figured the 1st time I would give them the benefit of the doubt, both times the sausage links were as if they were made the day before .. rubbery + tasteless. I asked what was in the blueberry crunch pancakes & instead of being told I was asked ""what do you think is in them?"" by the waitress. rude rude rude .. I have better breakfasts not to mention better service at the local McDonalds. Would not recommend to anyone! How they keep such a local & loyal following is beyond me but I will not continue to be part of the brainwashed masses! Pros: KNOWING I WILL NEVER GO BACK Cons: SERVICE + FOOD + COMFORT more

Rude and Inn a RUSH 6/14/2008

As a twenty-four year old girl I am looking for a breakfast place where my friends and I can sit around and have a chat, recounting memories from the night before. To my great displeasure both times I have tried to Inn on coventry the waist staff is cold and rude. The waitress the first time was hasty and grunting and the second time was condescending when she charged our table for something she shouldn't have. While we were finishing our meal our check was presented to us and we continued to chat and drink our coffee. I guess we took to long with this process because an older woman who I think may be the owner came over and said ""so is everything all set here ladies"" in a rude and huffing manner. I replied ""alright we're leaving"" and she replied angrily as she was walking away ""THanks"" in another hufflike gesture. Now I also must explain my friends and I are normal girls we are not rude, we say our pleases and thank yous. Paying decent money for what I will say is average food I DO NOT expect to be treated as if i should feel guilty for finishing my coffee and laughing with friends. The place is way to used to busy crowds and forgot about treating a customer right and personally I believe they need to learn that lesson again. I would say skip the Inn on Coventry It's not that good and they are very unwelcoming. Pros: i heard the eggs benedict and pancakes are good Cons: every member of the staff is miserable and rude more

OK food, Cleanliness Issues 6/4/2008

We went to the Inn for breakfast on my birthday with high hopes after reading reviews and ratings. The menu looks good and it was not very crowded because it was a late morning on a weekday so we were getting ready for a nice breakfast treat. Unfortunately things began to unravel fast. First, my fiancee noticed some unknown foreign object in the hot water for her tea. I immediately offered her mine, but lo and behold mine was dirty as well. Then we received our breakfast. I was really excited a the novelty of having a pancake with peanut butter and chocolate, and I have to say it was pretty tasty, but I soon noticed that there was a used, open butter packet with protective seal folded in and complete with fork rakes in it sitting right on top of my pancakes. I actually considered continuing to eat it (what a sicko huh?) but then I realized that the used butter had probably been through a couple sets of hands at least before settling on my pancake - and it made me think that maybe there's some recycling going on (health code violation perchance?); I'm all about being green and all, but not with food products, especially those nestled on my breakfast. My fiancee had scrambled things...it consisted of rubbery eggs and potatoes not thoroughly cooked. Needless to say, she wasn't impressed and I think even less so after the experience with the cleanliness issues. We were quite disappointed and will never go back. Pros: Neighborhood Cons: Cleanliness more

Go there if your time is not worth anything. 12/21/2007

For a Saturday or Sunday morning, the breakfast/brunch experience isn't great. The place has no parking. You stand outside or in the cold for 45 minutes (my average), wait about the same amount of time for the waitstaff to fill your orders as other people bump into your chair and step on your coat with its close quarters. The table and chair sometimes wobble, cleanliness is only fair, no caring waitress as they run around taking care of the busy place. Unlike other restaurants that I've reviewed, the Inn does have a few delicious dishes like Lemon Ricotta pancakes and Eggs benedict/mando. Unfortunately you really have to concentrate on the food cause that's all there is. Just when you think you're done with the meal and ready to head out, you have to wait another 20 minutes to pay your bill unless you have exact change and the checkout person allows you to cut the line, as she slowly work her dial-up credit card machine from the 1980's. If your time isn't worth money, you've found the right place. As a place that is long established in a college area with low prices, as well as one of the very few breakfast place around, the Inn has a strong foothold with young customers who had no choice, and now continues their patronage. Unfortunately due to that, they have became greedy and complacent as they herd customers around and does not update the place with changing times/demand. I think a Sunday breakfast at home or at any other breakfast place (like Pancake house and others) would prove to be a nicer and more relaxing experience than treated like cattles being very slowly herded around and packed in cramped quarters for feeding. But maybe some people are used to being treated that way. Pros: A couple of decent dishes, but I can make that at home Cons: Extremely crowded, noisy, long wait. more

Not that great 9/30/2006

Bummer! We tried the The Inn based on a strong and glowing recommendation - the quality of food was poor, I would not recommend - sorry! more

For Sundays Only 2/26/2006

Sunday brunch at The Inn is fantastic - fresh, delicious, and inventive. The pancakes, waffles, and omelettes will make you forget about close quarters, a long wait, and harried waitstaff. Stay away the rest of the week when it reverts to its normal poorly prepared diner menu. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Brunch Cons: Close Quarters, Busy Staff, Long Wait more

Make friends with your neighbor 12/5/2002

This restaurant gives new meaning to close quarters! Yes, some of the menu items are interesting on laminated plastic, but the food tends to disappoint-especially when handed from a snippy server and eaten literally within inches of another table's guests. Eat here if you have no need for privacy or quiet in your mornings. Cons: way too crowded, way too crowded, way too crowded more

The Best Bennie In Town! 10/16/2002

If you like Eggs Benedict then you'll love The Inn! Great service, great atmosphere, great food. Worth the wait in line as far as I'm concerned! Pros: EGGS BENEDICT more

Deserted on a Saturday night....oh great 8/13/2002

We were shocked when we discovered how deserted the Inn was when we first walked in. It was a Saturday night and maybe two tables were occupied. So we automatically what everyone would think...bad food. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the service was great, the food was even better and the food was fantastic! Pros: Inexpensive, good food, not crowded Cons: lots of competition, bad parking more
