This place is the most authentic, best REAL sushi place in the Upper East Side and considering the price, possibly the entire city. It is usually not busy either which is a big plus. It is so good that my fiance and I eat here about once a week. \r

Don't expect a lot of American-style sushi with huge servings of California rolls or spicy tuna. Although these items are on the menu, the best way to experience Inase is by letting the chef select the freshest fish for you with omakase ($60, $80 or $100 which includes a 7-course meal), or just by ordering the sushi special plates ($20, $27 or $35). You will leave full of the freshest fish shipped in from around the world, some of which you may not have ever had before. The chef and his wife (who is the hostess / waitress) are super friendly and personable. We are often treated with a specially-prepared kitchen appetizer and sometimes even extra sushi!\r

Japanese diners are usually found at the sushi bar and the owners / employees are really Japanese (not Chinese or Korean which is the case at many lower-priced sushi restaurants in NYC). You might have a better dining experience at Nobu or Gari, but at half the price it is worth giving up some of the ambiance. Sit at the sushi bar and you feel like you're in Tokyo!
Pros: Great Fresh Food, Friendly Staff, Not Crowded
