Worst

This has been the worst BBQ I have ever had. Everything was subpar, to add insult to injury it was expensive. Don't bother.

Sweet potato fries were mushy and soggy, and the size of the order was very small for the $5.00 price. Certainly a single serving. more

Garlic fries were mushy, asked for BBQ sauce on the side and NOT on the pulled pork sandwich but still came with sauce on the meat, the pork barely had any flavor... not smokey at all, and the "fresh squeezed" raspberry lemonade tasted like tangy water. more

Yummy 3/20/2012

This is my favorite Jamaican BBQ Restaurant EVER. I highly recommend their jerk chicken and potato salad. The potato salad isn't anything too fancy but its always so Yummy. The servers are always nice even when its just one person running the floor. If your in Pasadena for court or near the court house be sure to check this place out. more

Shizniggity Sniggity Snappity!! 7/26/2011

I enjoy their food here. I don't know if it's also the same chef cooking as the one in Top Chef this season, but at least I like the super fast way they get the food out to you, without feeling hurried. More accurately, I think I should say that the food comes out in successions, at the perfect timing. more

Very Good BBQ & Jamaica Food @ Low Prices 3/5/2010

1. FOOD: They specialize in Barbeque & Jamaican food, and it is sooooo good! Their BBQ sauce is so good, they sell it to go so you use it at home. The portion size is very good. Their french fries are fresh (not greasy and limp like so many places). FOOD PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE. 2. SERVICE: They do a good job, and because the place is smaller, you can easily flag down a waiter. 3. PARKING: The restaurant has its own parking lot right there - Don't pay, its free for customers who eat at Hutch's.\r 4. Atmosphere: Its very unique, a home at one time, and very comfortable and nice. Pros: BBQ Sauce is sooooo good! more

Smells delecious, average food 9/12/2008

The chicken and ribs were just about average. But when you get your food, you just get really happy because the smell was heavenly. Then once you bite into your food, a little part of you just dies because it smelled so much better than it tastes. The chicken and ribs were both a little on the dry side, but not so much so that it gave you difficulty chewing and swallowing. \r \r On a more positive note, the restaurant is a little hidden, and is quieter than most restaurants. You can whisper across the table and the person on the other side can hear you just fine. Our server was pretty nice as well, she recommended a pretty average piece of cake. The decor was pretty nice, its a cozy, tidy restaurant, with nice servers and its an alright date spot, if your significant other is into their meats. The prices wasn't unreasonable, since their proportions were pretty big. Also, their BBQ sauce is pretty good with fries too. \r \r When you do go there, don't be afraid to park in the fee lot. If you tell them you're going to Hutch Restaurant, they don't charge you. Oh and if you like to be outside, you can ask to be seated in their porch, since there isn't heavy traffic, its not too bad to be outside on a cool night. Pros: Parking, service, decor Cons: Food a little dry more

Unique flavored BBQ, don't expect KC Masterpiece! 5/25/2008

I've been going there since the 1950's. My parents remember it as the Twizzle Twig Tea Room. As Hutch's, they have always been known for their BBQ meats and sandwiches. The used to have the best french fries until several owners ago. They are still ok, but were better. The cole slaw is the best in the world. The BBQ sauce is different from any I've ever had and there is no comparison so don't even try. Love it or hate it. I love it. It hasn't changed through the years and their BBQ beef sandwiches are still the best anywhere around and I always as for extra sauce. The meat is quite tender and the buns soft. This place used to be packed on weekends, but when the new owners closed down the patio and made a large open room of it, it lost alot of the charm. We used to love to sit outside, it was lovely. The interior has changed little, the staff not as attentive as the ladies back in the 60's, but for todays standards, the are still good and the food can't be beat. Go in with a clear mind and go in hungry! Pros: Great food, fun atmosphere, good service Cons: Parking can be a challenge at times, but not impossible. more

great dining and under new management... 11/12/2005

The food was excellent... the BBQ beef sandwich and potato salad was a perfect choice for my boyfriend and I'm hooked on the garlic roasted potatoes. The Jerk chicken linguini was delicious! The atmosphere has changed some since I had last been there but all for the better. We were greeted by the new manager and she was very friendly... she even sat down and talked with us for a bit! Pros: validated parking, large portions, warm atmosphere Cons: closes at 9 p.m. more

Good 'ol homestyle bbq! 7/21/2005

Great service and very relaxed, island feel ambience. The people are so nice. I had the BBQ pork sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich was excellent! Homestyle and tender! The potato salad was among the best I've had. Definitely a great place to eat! more

the little house of bbq that could! 7/17/2005

hard to believe i didn't know about this place before. had lunch there just this past weekend - tried the bbq pork sandwich and the potato salad... it was GREAT!! the potato salad was awesome... not heavy on the mayo like most places. the sandwich meat was tender and tasty. tried the roasted garlic potatoes as well - YUM!!! i almost finished the whole order by myself!! the chef and the servers were extremely friendly and accommodating as well. most definitely should check out this little house of bbq! Pros: lots of parking, great service, great food! more

Good place to get BBQ 6/30/2005

My experience with Hutch's BBQ was a pretty good one - they offer a variety of BBQ meals which should satisfy anyone's appetite. The Jamaican Jerk chicken was quite good but the ribs won me over. Finally - something as simple as egg salad was just great at Hutch's. It's a quaint building right in between a courthouse and a huge modern hotel but the food definitely stands out. The prices are a little high for regular dinner but you can get a great deal on weekends when they serve an all you can eat buffet. Check it out! more

a little treasure in old town 6/29/2005

a small house converted to a bbq churnin' eatery. good stuff. the oxtail was quite good as well as the baby back ribs - the meat came right off the bone. the best part was the egg salad and the roasted garlic potatoes - YUM! jerk chicken was pretty good - tender and not overly sauced. plus the chef/owner was a hella cool jamaican mon! Pros: lots of parking, friendly staff more

Great food and great people 3/5/2005

We initially were skeptical, but thought we would look at the menu. It turned out to be great food with genuinely friendly service. The BBQ chicken sandwich was fantastic, and the Jamaican food was spicy and tasty. Though the beer selection was small, they assured us they were adding to it. They also validated for parking (which is sparse in the area). All in all, really great food for a reasonable price. Definitely worth a try. Pros: Great Food, Great Attitude, Free Parking Cons: Small Beer Selection more

Jamaican, not BBQ 2/1/2005

It would be a great idea if the ownership would change the name to Hutch's Jamaican Food. Most of the menu is Jamaican with just a few bbq items. We thought we were going to a bbq place and ended up being disappointed Cons: pay for parking, not bbq more

BARBEQUE THIS AIN'T 12/1/2004

Briefly, this was a very sorry dining experience. My wife and I had undoubtedly the worst & chewiest excuse for barbeque we've ever had. We stayed at the Westin Hotel next door & should have dined in the hotel restaurant. They need to remove the word ""barbeque"" from their name. Cons: , poorly seasoned, over priced more

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT 11/30/2004

Heard about this place several years ago & wish I hadn't. I was really disappointed in the quality of barbeque served. There was no discernible smoke flavor in the meats like all good barbeque restaurants have. It was just meat with some sauce on top. The meat didn't have the smoke ring that I equate with good barbeque. The place was empty, had no atmosphere but most importantly, the food was poor. Pros: near old pasadena Cons: , sauce was bland, boring sauce more

A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT 11/27/2004

This used to be a pretty good place. WHAT HAPPENED? No atmosphere & really bad BBQ. No smoke ring, bland flavor and a weak sauce. I hadn't been there in 10 yrs. Really has changed for the worse since then. WILL NOT RETURN. Cons: , Weak sauce, No atmosphere more
