Editorial review from Citysearch 7/11/2013

Recently I’ve purchased a pre-owned Honda certified used car (Civic 2010) and I had really a bad experience with Huntington Honda. After a 2.5 months of wait I've decided to write a review:\r \r I went to Huntington Honda West. I took a print out of their online price and finalized the car. The sales man explained me the price break up and tax calculation in his hand written sales order, I signed the order and he took it the manager for final paper work and financing. After finishing paper work the manager called me to his desk and suddenly started showing up how much installment I’ve to pay for an ‘Extended Warranty’. He described the thing as if the EMI includes the cost of car as well as extra warranty and the delta is very nominal (Actually the EMI amount of the car and yearly charge for that Extended Warranty was almost same around $259 and so he played the tricks to sell the extra warranty). \r \r When I realized the ‘Extended Warranty’ was costing me extra $1395, I decided to cancel it and submitted the cancellation form the very NEXT DAY of the purchase. He said it’ll be cancelled within 4-6 weeks. But still I found there was some DISCREPANCY of $295 in the Final financed amount and the price in the sales order which the sales man provided me initially. He was trying to convince me that it’s some tax thing… and finally told me that it’s because of Theft protection device in the car and that can’t be removed or cancelled. When I asked why didn't he tell me before ... he said ‘SORRY’!!! This is even NOT the END of the STORY.\r \r I used to follow up over phone regarding extended warranty cancellation status and every time they asked me to wait for 4 to 6 weeks. After 6 weeks when I visited the branch in person, after a long wait the sales man talked to me and informed that they DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY CANCELLATION FORM because that manager already left the company (even though I submitted the cancellation form in front of the sales man and talked to him several times over phone regarding the cancellation status)!! That day I resubmitted the cancellation form and it’s been total 2.5 months and still waiting for that money back!\r \r Another horrified thing I discovered on that day. That another $295 discrepancy was actually an extra ‘After Sell’ fee (but they never mentioned about it and it’s not there in their website) and the manger never showed me that computerized final sales order and I didn't even signed that form. I realized it when on my request the sales man gave me that copy. \r \r So please be extremely careful about these people, their tricks and hidden costs if you decide to buy a car from them. Also be informed that these kind of warranties can only be cancelled through the dealer, NOT by calling the insurance company!!! \r \r Now Hoping that I’ll get back at least $1395 if not another $295 of After Sell hidden fee.\r more

Main Concerns:\r - Terrible customer service / interest in calling customers back\r - Potential attempt at ""bait and switch""\r \r Description:\r I had a terrible experience with Huntington Honda. I am an Army soldier who is stationed in Georgia but is originally from New Jersey. I was looking to purchase a used Nissan Altima 2012, and my father noted that prices for used Altimas were $2000-3000 higher in Georgia than in the NY / NJ area. I decided to use a car inspection service to check out car options in NY first and then ship down the purchased vehicle to Georgia.\r \r I found Huntington Honda's attractive price for a used 2012 Altima, began corresponding with Jane Gorgone in Pre-Owned Sales, and ordered an inspection of the Altima I was interested in. The technician who inspected the car approved it. I told Jane that I wanted to purchase the car, and she transferred me to her colleague Jeff in Sales / Purchasing.\r \r What followed next was terrible customer service that still confuses me, as I had already made clear that I definitely wanted to purchase the car immediately, without financing. I informed Jeff that my father would drive up from NJ to Long Island to deliver the payment on his day off. I asked what documents my father would need to present in person. Jeff replied, ""I'll call you back."" Over the next two days, I called back several times during my short breaks from training, only to get several more ""I'll call you backs"" from Jeff, but he would never call. \r \r Finally, on the day before my father was supposed to drive up to deliver the payment, I demanded angrily that I speak with someone. The operator at Huntington Honda asked if I wanted to buy a car from them, and I replied that I was trying very hard to do so, but no one was picking up my calls. I was eventually connected with Andy (also in Sales / Purchasing) who confirmed the details and told me to check back that night at 8 pm to confirm that the car was still available. I did so and was told the car was available. \r \r The next morning, my father called to tell me that before he left for a 2 hour drive up to Long Island, he called Huntington Honda a few minutes before his planned departure to confirm the car was available. He was told the car was not available. I called several times to speak with either Jane or Jeff, but I was told repeatedly over 30-45 minutes that both had ""stepped away from their desk."" Only after demanding angrily that I speak with someone did Andy tell me that the vehicle was sold late the night prior but that another used Nissan Altima 2012 was available for about $1,500 more.\r \r I'm less frustrated that Huntington Honda sold the vehicle - If someone came and put down a deposit in-person, that person has the right to get the car - I'm mainly angry that I had to fight tooth and nail to speak with someone when I was certain that I wanted to purchase one of Huntington Honda's vehicles. On a similar note, I'm angry that even after I had been speaking to the dealership for a week about the vehicle and when they knew my father was driving to deliver a payment, they did not call me to say that the vehicle had already been sold. If my father hadn't called last-minute to confirm the vehicle's availability, he would have driven 1.5 hours up to Long Island just to be told someone dropped the ball.\r \r Thanks a lot, Huntington Honda. more

LIARS and ILLEGAL Activity 1/31/2012

Jan 18, 2012 Huntington Honda - Used Car Dealership - Location is .5 miles East of route 110. (631) 423-6000 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IN ONE SENTENCE: THEN YOU CAN READ ON IF YOU LIKE THEY LIE, THEY WROTE UP A CONTRACT WITH A VIN NUMBER OF A DIFFERENT CAR THAN WE TEST DROVE AND AGREED TO PURCHASE - similar mileage, same color and model, but condition significantly worse. This was the 3rd vehicle purchased from this dealership. My wife and I purchased a used 2006 Odyssey in 2009 My wife's parents purchased a new 2010 CR-V This time was a used 2009 CR-V for my Mother this Jan. 2012 We test drove a CR-V EX on Saturday, my mother liked it, negotiated the the price to 20,200.00 and left a $500 deposit, signing a buying agreement. They asked us to come on Tuesday so they could detail the car and work on the financing interest rate (trying to lower it) The pick-up day was Tuesday (3 days later) We arrived at 6:45pm, my Mother noticed her car with the price tag still on the vehicle vs. a sold sticker as we saw with others, but we proceeded to fill out the paper work, make the down payment of $10,000, acquire the financing, and a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty (effective on birthdate of the car). 2 hours later we were wrapping up the paper work and the assistant Tommy said he was bringing the car around and asked if we would want to look at it before. I said yes. I walked up to the vehicle and immediately I saw the interior of the car was very dirty. Not only lint and other debris, but dark stains on the carpet and seats, a deep baby car seat indentation on the back seat, and grease on the carpet. Along with a sloppy wiping down of the dash board, doors, etc. The most shocking part were the clumps of human hair around the car and unknown crust on back seat (probably from a baby) - This car looked as if it were just turned in that day from a lease and delivered to us with tire shine. I was upset. Georgia did not apologize and was actually annoyed that I was making such a big deal. She initially offered a free car wash in Commack. I told her the car was filthy and that it would need a full thorough detail at the minimum. She finally put that on the contract. I had my 2 year old and 8 month old there with us, and after 2 hours at that time of night we were tired and cranky and ready to go home. So we decided to accept that free Detail and go home. Tom the manager refused to take the car back. He did offer to fix and clean whatever the car needed. We explained what happened over and over and he would not budge. And explained the mileage on the DMV form was different than the car she purchased, he said they do that all the time. The next day we looked over the paper work and found the discrepency. On Saturday Tommy the assistant gave us the Carfax report with the VIN of the car we have now showing the mileage of that vehicle. 24,144 The form that my Mother filled out to buy the car, paying the $500 deposit had no VIN number on the form, and had a different mileage. 24,329 On Tuesday, the forms she filled out had the VIN of the car on the Carfax report and the car we actually picked up, but the mileage was not the same. Over a 300 mile discrepency. This made us realize that they switched the cars because the one we drove on the Saturday was not that dirty and there is no way in 3 days clumps of hair and deep stains could have accumulated. If they had actually cleaned the car we probably would not have noticed any of it, but that was the red flag, along with the car still having the $24,995 sticker price in the showroom when we went to pick it up vs. having a sold sticker. The mileage issue is a misdemeanor with a $10,000 fine so we are pursuing a lawsuit with the NY attorney general. more

Tried to push a damaged vehicle on me 12/28/2011

Horrible experience buying my 2009 vehicle, Still angry about it nearly 3 years later. The sales associate tried to let me leave the lot with a dented vehicle!!! I was so insulted tears streamed out. Make sure you walk around your new vehicle. The dent was in the rear bumper the size of a basketball, you couldn't miss it. He wasn't going to say anything either, as we both walked around the car and nothing was mentioned about it. Dispicable.. and down right unethical. Never again..... Never again..... (what bothers me most is you generally have to bring the car back to the dealer to fix warrantied items, and their service is just as poor. Promised a loaner car 12/22, but when I got there(mind you it took 1 1/2 hr travel) was told none were available. Rescheduled for 1/2/12, we'll see how that goes. Also on a previous service(oil change) my car was returned scratched in numerous places, and was then held hostage for over a week to correct the damage, only after I threatened a law-suit. The cars are good, but sales and serivce are of the lowest kind.\r -Too bad this site insists on a 1 star rating. more

buying process was smooth and quick. 10/14/2010

I would do further business with this dealership based on my prior experiences with them. They helped my wife and I finance a new Accord, I got a fair price on it and the payments aren’t high, at all. The finance department manager made sure we'd be able to make payments with ease and so far all has been going very well. We both enjoy the car very much so and our buying process was smooth and quick. more

Huntington Honda Review 9/15/2010

I went online and searched for dealerships and got an idea of where to go and what I wanted. I even read some of the reviews about the dealer before buying my car. I saw some really good ones for and some really bad, so I decided to find out for myself since the mixed reviews for Huntington Honda didn't help me much. I am surprised by the negative ones because I truly had no issues with my purchase. (perhaps people need to do a little research before running into places all willynilly, or use at least a part of the brain they have when buying a car) For me, it was a very quick and easy process . I didn't get 'tricked' into anything or jerked around, no extra fees or schemes. I didn't meet any crooks or evil criminals.. The sales guy Bob was actually a very nice man. He didn't pressure me into anything, just stated the facts about the cars I was interested I and told me the prices and when I told him it was high he would insist that we could work out a deal. I paid a very fair price for my certified pre owned Honda Element and there was no problems with the car when I returned home. Other than usual maintenance it has not needed any work. I did bring it back to them for service because I had a coupon, but I probably wont return. Not because it was bad or anything, but the drive is pretty far and I have a more local mechanic that I trust. The service I did receive though was fine and my car was finished pretty quickly. I am very satisfied with this dealership and am pleased by my experience with them. more

Lies and aggravation 10/10/2009

Bought a used car there 2 years ago - couldn't have been treated better. Returned and bought another.\r Paperwork screwups (cash deal) took more than 2 hours. An old neighbor was treating me great on my trade with an offer only $ 1,500. LESS than Kelly's Blue Book.! Salesman promised to remove a huge door scratch and morror scapes - wasn't done. Only one key was available on delivery ""I'll try to get you another one"".\r COST ME $190. plus tax at the vehicle's dealer. Key is mechanic-installed only. On day two, I found a cracked taillight lens and listened to the lies about how it COULDN'T HAVE BEEN there the day before. The mechanic passed by and admitted he neglected to note the defectwhen he inspected the car. Lying Bastards! Add 2 more hours of brow beating for alarms, window etching & service contracts. By day 2, the serivice contract cost had been reduced by 30%. Never again! Pros: Huge inventory Cons: Unbelievable liars more
