I recently rescued a pretty little calico cat from the streets of Newburgh. She had been a house cat, co-workers of mine would see her sitting in an apartment window. About 4 months ago, the tenants moved and left their cat to be evicted by the landlord, she resorted to living on the streets and relied on charitable feedings from St. Lukes Hospital employees. Day after day we would see this cat, and tried many times to catch her, but to no avail. So we continued to feed this sweet but elusive cat on a daily basis. After many months of trying, on a Thursday, we got her! I found a willing suspect to adopt her, my mom! We thought this was a pretty lucky kitty, so she was named Lotto. Lotto had an appointment at Hudson Highlands for the next Tuesday, just for a check up. Over the weekend my mom had noticed Lotto's breathing to be labored.
